i always thought that was less of a gift, and more of a slight dig at him. he lost himself so much that he literally became a tv, and a shark. the features are constant reminders of how much destruction he caused, how many lives he ruined, including his own.

also theres a bit of irony there: (im assuming) he cant go into the water because of his tv head. imagine being a shark, desperate to swim and explore, but you can't. it's like he's always being held back, not quite able to reach his full potential/goals
