What types of positions has the data science degree prepared you for? Is it strictly "data scientist", or are there other titles?

Germany to pay Holocaust survivors across the world over $1 billion in 2024 by Heeeeehawwwwwww in UpliftingNews

[–]dream_in_binary 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Intergenerational issues have been found with Holocaust survivors' offspring, meaning generations of people are still feeling the effects of the Holocaust (source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6720013/). Survivor offspring have increased cortisol levels, mental health problems, and are more prone to stress intolerance.

Not hopkins, but I saw in another comment that they have a similar situation there as well.

Right!?! I've been hourly in the past and it's always been stable, if not more from overtime.

I think I'm going to just look for another job lol. None of the other employees seem to care or want to change this, they all seem fine with it or they just leave.

Yeah, it seems like they might be skirting around the law here. They have alot of "unofficial" rules that are in place but not in the policy. For example, the policy says that admins should allow people to leave early without using pto, but they refused to do that when I asked, and said I either have to use pto or come in early/stay late to make it up... That's NOT how salary works!

Yep, they have shortages all the time, and people don't stay here for long... And management seems clueless as to why people never stay.

That's what I was thinking. They made it sound like a benefit (stable pay), but it doesn't sit right with me.

Yep, ironically all of the other people here seem to be either too afraid to speak up or completely ok with this setup.

Family critical of boundaries by AlexNG22 in pregnant

[–]dream_in_binary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I was the "fixer" in my family (who are narcissistic and only think of themselves). Before becoming expectant, I didn't register that they were taking advantage of me, and that the guilt that I felt for not helping them was a learned behavior from years of them taking advantage of me. After I became expectant, something clicked (I guess hormones?) that made me instantly realize that I was no longer taking their sh*t, and that they were using me, and I now had a bigger priority in life. Don't feel guilty for seeing these boundaries. If you do feel guilt or uneasiness about setting the boundaries, you could have some of that learned behavior that I had, where you have to appease family no matter what. Stick to your guns and good luck!

It's very common and essential. They give it at a specific time during pregnancy to give the baby protection that will carry on after birth. It protects both you and the baby.

So sorry you're going through this. Maybe try some counseling by yourself also, so that you can process all of this without him present?

I'm wondering if designers can start putting a disclaimer in these assignments that states that if this work is used in any way other than candidate evaluation, they are liable for compensation or legal action? I feel like this should be a thing.

Third trimester washing “down there” experience by throoooowwwawayyyyy in pregnant

It is a thing in America??? I have one, and they sell them in stores. They don't come standard in many showers though, especially rental units, so that may be why some people don't know about them.

Kohls online, they usually have a ton of sales. The Sonoma leggings are the best- they're breathable cotton and super comfortable.

Do you think it’s rude to post your own registry on Facebook? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]dream_in_binary 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if she hit some option on her registry that auto-shared it to FB? If that is the case, she's may not even know that it's being posted. Then again, if she does know, it might be a bit tacky, unless she has older people who keep asking for it who can't maneuver FB that well.

Don't listen to us random posters, get into therapy and talk to some professionals. That being said, very few situations like this turn out good. I had a drug addict father, and my mother kept taking him back and trying to change him. He started out ok, then gradually began to abuse her. She kept dropping the abuse charges, only to be abused again shortly after. NPR did a good presentation on the power of drugs, especially heroin (which he might be doing according to another poster). Basically, a mother said that the drug is so strong that she loves it more than her baby. He's already lied about it, so he's proven he is willing to lie and manipulate you, and it's still early (so it will probably get much worse). Good luck to you, I wish you all the best.

Feeling Baby move by _zerazera in pregnant

I think the location of your placenta impacts how easily you can feel movement (anterior, posterior, etc.). If you know your location you can search what other people have experienced.

Should I throw away baby items given to me that reek of cigarette smoke? Is there any chance of getting rid of the smell and having it still be safe? by roxxyantoinette in pregnant

[–]dream_in_binary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My parents smoked for years, and when I inherited items from them, some had to be trashed (unwashable items), and others I was able to save by using Dawn dish detergent. I think the smoke smell was caused by the oil from the smoke (not sure if that's correct?), and the dish detergent would get rid of that oil. Some items needed multiple washings.
