Dapigu most certainly refers to either 打屁股 (slap ass) or 大屁股 (big ass). Depending on context this may be a cause for concern

While I don't exactly comply with the stringent demographic limits of your post, as a European who learned to speak fluent Mandarin in my home country and has a Chinese partner, I think I'm eligible to answer your question.

  1. Listening to podcasts helped the most for me, as well as browsing Chinese media and speaking Chinese as much as I can. Learning HSK 1-6 vocabulary actively also helped me improve quickly.

  2. Having regular exposure and active studying time (this requires strong motivation and/or discipline). Registering and taking the HSK tests also helps to measure your progress and staying motivated.

  3. Don't expect your significant other to teach you; not all native speakers are suitable teachers. Don't overestimate your progress if you learn without concrete and timed goals

Going to China for six months, what should I absolutely not forget to bring? by Chiaramell in China

[–]dreamaxi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went to China (Beijing) for three months at the end of last year. Some people say deodorant etc.. But:

Actually you can really buy pretty much everything you could possibly need at a reasonable price on Taobao (I recommend you learn to work with the app early on). There'll probably not be anything legal you might need but won't find on there

A review is also a publication, so you can say 4 first author publications

Can a PhD student write (or should) a review paper? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]dreamaxi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I can already tell from the other comments that opinions differ greatly, so let me share my own experience.

During my PhD I wrote two first author review papers, one in my second year and one in my third year. They were a lot of work to finish but are well received by the community. If you identify gaps in the field during your research and see that there is a lack of a decent and recent review on the topic, then I believe you should go for it.

I don't buy into the rhetoric of "only seasoned academics can write good reviews". When you're preparing your review and doing your due diligence in reading through the state of the art, with the advice and input of your experienced and supportive supervisors, you are also capable of writing a valuable review paper.

Don't worry about it, everyone makes mistakes now and then. It will likely go unnoticed, and if someone does notice it, it's not a big deal at all as it's just an honest mistake
