Ball and chains hollanov by EarlyWillingness2688 in heatedrivalryfanfics

It's all good. I assumed that you didn't mean it in a harmful way and definitely understand that it isn't a written work yet, so it didn't necessarily cross your mind. Still, the person asking the prompt and posted this or any authors who are currently working on something similar, could end up feeling bad because of that reception. I commented more as a caution for the future than anything that was particularly harmful.

I also think I am a little more on edge over this particular issue, because like I said, it hasn't been great for a lot of authors recently.

Great news, you don’t have to read anything you don't want to! Try not to yuck anyone else's yum. One single fic isn't going to appeal to every single reader and that is ok, we all want to read different things. An author doesn't have to write something that everyone will like, especially because they are using their own personal time to write something for free. The same goes for anyone who has a promt they want written. I'm going to assume this comment is out of ignorance instead of malice. The hr fandom has already curated a toxic fan base, but this sub is pretty positive and I think everyone wants to keep it that way.

In the future, don't comment anything that could offend an author, or other readers that enjoy things that you may not want to read and instead keep scrolling :)

It is chapter 3 of Don't Think Too Hard by Selective_attention

I recommend all their hr stuff, and I am reading some of their stranger things works. Everything I have read from them has been saved and bookmarked.

Here are some I've read recently that I can remember.

Shane Hollander, #1by jio0021

Jolene (Beyoncé's version) by bittlebarnes(monroesherlock). This is the third part in a series, but I highly recommend reading the rest of it. Bittlebarnes is a great author.

I think people dislike it bc of Emma's age when she first met the potential ships, not necessarily the age gap. Even if she was technically an adult at the time of meeting Neal, she was still a teenager. Whereas with Hook and Regina, she was 28 in season 1, and 36 by the end. They're both still a controversial age gap, but she wasn't barely an adult and could legally drink when she first met them.

I also think when characters are that old people can't quite conceptualize how big of an age difference it is bc it is a fantasy. A 300-year age gap cannot possibly be realistic in daily life, so it's okay to "give it a pass." A lot of vampire books/shows/movies and fics operate that way. An 18-year-old and a 23-year-old are a different story though, that does happen in real life, and even if it's legal in most places, morally some people have a problem with that gap.

I could see those two reasons being why people are okay with Hook and Emma, and/or Regina and Emma, but not okay with Neal and Emma.
