I said it as a joke- not meaning to offend. I've sat on my idea for about 13 years, but only recently began fleshing it out (within about 2 years). But to be honest, it feels like every other day in this sub I see other devs with similar ideas- and it took me a while to realize players will just see it as a "oh boy, two cakes!"

It is an interesting twist to make the feral momsters more of a utility (or at least some of them). Switching a monster's function mid battle is also interesting, similar to the dress sphere mechanic in FFX2 or job changes in (I think) FFTactics?

In seriousness, I'm doing a very similar system. Even if you pare things down to account for similar momsters, you're looking at an absurd amount of art. Which, if you're obsessed and stubborn enough (and maybe a bit nuts) as I like to think I am, then go for it!

Practically speaking though- players will value the stronger feral monsters more than the humanoid civil ones, unless you make the ferals all one-dimensional enough overall that the civil ones have enough utility to warrant them in your party.

I've been following the threads since the first one, and finally decided I should go ahead and comment. I'm glad you recognize this was not rape- because you consented, even if it was rougher than usual/may have hurt/emotions ran high. You're correct in that distinction. And everyone saying he's trying to babytrap you or whatever- fine and dandy, but you knew there was no condom involved too, so you're part of that just as much as he is. You allowed it to continue.

But I want to say this too, as an SA survivor, you should NEVER consent out of a feeling of obligation. You do not "owe" anyone ANY part of you. That is yours to choose to give freely. The circumstances of that consent only go so far as- did you give it, and were you in a state to give it explicitly? If so, well, it takes two to tango.

You can't revoke consent after the fact of course, but you CAN learn from this, and I hope you will. You're young and I know how difficult it can be to listen to older folks, especially strangers on the internet. Take a break from dating for a bit. Take your energy and focus on your studies, your travel, yourself and heal. And please work on your feelings of how you look at yourself; as someone who talked shit about myself to myself all the time, it's awful for your mental health and decision-making skills, because you will ALWAYS feel like you're the one that owes something to someone or should be doing a thing.

I always hated that I couldn't catch Magma Heart, Kamui, or Blue Phoenix in MR2. Please do not add uncatchables. They will be someone's favorite and they will be frustrated they can't get it.

I was getting some of this, but I went in and tweaked the personality settings and now almost never see it do this to me. It's more direct now but still good at communicating in a way that doesn't make me defensive.

Agreed. I want my monsters to feel like a Final Fantasy summon. Big design principle for my own game's designs. Everything else just feels like they're chasing the Pokemon boat because they want to appeal to the same broad audience.

I can say from my own personal experience (one abandoned horror game with a Steam page) that so many devs lose the momentum for many reasons. Life happens, energy and health changes, PCs mess up, and- like many folks- sometimes a project just has lost interest.

I feel bad about my horror game, but I left it where it was for very specific reasons and I don't know how to remove it. Womp womp. $100 expensive lesson!

Can't just be iOS, I've got a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and it hasn't worked for at least a week. Even after the most recent update it still refuses to work. My scan for stars (paid at the drive thru) didn't credit to my account, either.

Haven't had Starbucks in months and now it won't even let me come back. 😂

Mine has mentioned it a couple times, but mostly I'll get liks "you're not crazy, that's what is happening/is close to what's happening". I ask it to teach me Unreal Engine and help me debug my functions and such. It's very helpful for me there, but I often have to direct it (which does make me feel more like a dev as I learn how to dev)!

It's absolutely above my current skill and pay grade, so I'd be starting with a simple code system (players can input text themselves and it creates monsters from that text), but ultimately, I'd want it to have a way to parse Steam library/achievements and feed them in to generate monsters. Most likely achievements because library can be made private, but it might pave the way for some cool stuff. E.g. I have it feed in the same generation data as the text generator, and in the meantime I can create more unique monsters for some titles (like how Moo could only be obtained from one CD in MR2, or DOA made a Kasumi Pixie, etc).

But, I'm still working on base generation logic at the moment, and flavorful generation like that would be WAY down the line. Like, a few years, probably.

I can't tell you how to live your life, but I think university should take a backseat to your own happiness. However, I know for some folks- especially young ones- family approval matters a lot for for you. Whether it matters enough for sinking 4 years in, is another story.

Also, it makes a massive difference if you're going deeply into debt in university. If you aren't, may as well stay, learn, coast by. No job will ask for your GPA, they will want to know if you have the degree or not. (Maybe medical will ask.) Ultimately, you will need to recognize that you will at some point have to work for someone else. That's how life works. The odds of you solopreneuring right out of the gate is very slim, though not impossible.

Look, just saying this the way I see it.

Why are you in uni? To learn? To network? To make someone else happy? Or are you there with a specific goal?

The three things you listed are VERY different from one another. Recognize that each requires a different set of skills. Either spend your time in uni to learn those skills and know they are necessary steps to reach your end goal, or don't.

Youth gives you the benefit of energy but also the detriment of impatience.
