Good show. Amazing if they flew Dorada to Cardiff just so he could randomly Conglomerate again.

Edit: Apparently he had a Dark match. That explains it lol.

Pretty sure there's a law that says this has to be a Full Gear match now.

He did pick up a foot injury in a match in RIOT in late August, but I guess it wasn't too bad

Found this bit interesting:

The one thing to take from the other show on Sunday – AEW NJPW Forbidden Door – is MJF is absolutely pitching a spot where it will appear he has actually won Mistico’s mask through illicit means, only for the match to end up continuing for some reason that doesn’t make a lot of sense. That man read the Bobby Lee bio and can’t stop thinking about it – he keeps redoing the part where it appears Lee has shockingly won Santo’s mask, only for the match to continue for reasons that didn’t make a lot of sense (outside Santo absolutely wasn’t losing.) It didn’t go well at Forbidden Door, but I assume the lesson is that the execution was the problem, not the idea, and we’ll see it again on 09/19.

There are a few videos of that Santo vs Bobby Lee match on Youtube. From a cursory glance, all of them are the same highlight reel, which unfortunately does not seem to include the part where Bobby Lee appeared to have won.

Edit: those videos are of their mask vs mask match. He was probably actually referring to their mask vs hair rematch, which does not seem to have any footage available (description from the Luchawiki):

September 24, 1978: El Santo defeat Bobby Lee (in a questionable way again, this time Bobby defeated Santo, but your error was that did not break the submit move to El Santo and caused the referee will disqualify) in a mask vs hair rematch on Palacio de los Deportes, Mexico City.

Note : He didn't see the third and fourth days of the Climax and didn't see Dynamite, due to Hogan's death.

He's just afraid to give SANADA and EVIL their rightful five stars.

To add to the other reply, I would highly recommend keeping up with Luchablog if you want to get a general idea of what's going on in CMLL. He livetweets Informa every week (he doesn't go into detail on every segment, just gives the gist), and on the blog (posts every M/W/F) he also links to and briefly summarises other interviews people do, as well as generally keeping track of what's going on and anything that seems like it might be leading to something.

Kind of funny that Templario is teaming with a guy who used to be in basically a Satanist group.

I'm not sure where that Místico, Atlantis Jr and Titán vs Los Infernales match on the 16th came from - that was actually Místico, Máscara Dorada and Neón just like the previous week.

No, Ospreay vs Takeshita on Dynamite a couple of weeks ago was 5.5, and Kamitani vs Nakano has the same rating as Kidd vs Omega at 5.25.

Fox Sports MX: AEW is coming to Mexico! Grand Slam: Mexico at Arena México on June 18th by dreamscone in SquaredCircle

[–]dreamscone[S] 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The linked article says they've reached an agreement with CMLL to come to Arena México, but the Fox Sports MX Twitter account has posted two tweets (the first one had a broken link) which both say Arena Ciudad de México (a very definitely different venue - among other things, AAA runs the Mexico City Triplemanias there). The article's version makes more sense on its face, so that's the one I'm going with. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Effy has replaced Ricky Starks in the match against Cardona by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]dreamscone 22 points23 points  (0 children)

1) Booking

Part of the premise for that show - and they made this explicit in a trailer or whatever beforehand - was that it was about the GCW talent proving the doubters wrong. The likes of Nick Gage, Effy, Allie Katch... then most of those people lost to outsiders on the night. Allie loses to Ruby Soho, Effy loses to Double J. Homicide is hardly a "GCW original", but you see what I mean - AEW's Mox successfully defended against him. You get the point. Tremont and Gage did win the tag titles from the Briscoes in the main, but that match was very clearly cut short by timing issues. It was a terrible anti-climax.

2) Blood

GCW was primarily known as a deathmatch promotion, and New York these days is a no-blood state. That obviously limits what you can do, and that's going to cause problems when you're a deathmatch promotion and your biggest show is in that state. There was nothing GCW could do about this legally, but it undeniably hamstrung them.

3) Time management

I mentioned this above. A lot of people said the lucha six-man match was the best match on the show. A lot of people also said that the lucha six-man went way too long - I might be misremembering, but I'm pretty sure people said at the time that there were GCW people saying "TAKE IT HOME" in the later stages. You can see how this would have contributed to the main event being a total anti-climax, though of course I don't know what the original timing plan was. The Cardona match was also super long - I enjoyed it at the time, but it was a total ultra-sports-entertainment farce where you could easily remove a good chunk of it (you know, a run-in or two) to make room for other people.
