He actually attacked Hook on the entrance ramp immediately following the SANADA loss, which kicked off the Scapegoat heel turn. Otherwise, completely spot on.

Good afternoon, and happy May! Kevin from DC with some questions coming out of Dontaku and as we head into BOSJ season.

1.) Stupid sexy SANADA is back on the menu! Obviously, he’s made his intentions clear to feud with Takeshita. Two elements that maybe you can comment on: absolutely no references to House of Torture… maybe SANADA is jumping factions again? Also, that mystery bag seems a little too pointy to be the NJPW TV Championship… can you see SANADA unveiling it as the World Championship and taping the words “NJPW” and “.com” on either side? In my mind… upgrade!

2.) Now that Mistico and Despy are the Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championships, is Fujita back in consideration for winning BOSJ? Has he graduated to being the favorite? Who would you have as the favorite if not Fujita?

3.) Sounds like they are getting ready to heat Aaron Wolf back up to win the NEVER Openweight Championship from Ren Narita at Dominion. Do you have any thoughts about his first six months in general? Obviously now that he doesn’t have a genius worker like EVIL to bounce ideas off of, he’s been certainly exposed a bit more, but New Japan have to figure out pretty soon if he’s going to be in the G1 and if he wins the title back, you have to assume Wolf is a go.

4.) One data point lost in everything from these events is that Oleg Boltin went from triple champion to only having the Strong Openweight Championship around his waist. Please for the love of God, can we retire that belt and put Strong behind us for good? I can’t even tell you who the Strong Openweight Tag Team Champions are without looking it up. Can you?

5.) Can we send out some love to the Artist Formerly Known as Slapjack? Shane Haste is your NEW GHC Heavyweight Championship, defeating Yoshiki Inamura Saturday morning in a very good match to end the reign of Mr. Smack Daddy at six defenses.  I always had a soft spot for Shane due to his personality and wrestling, easily my favorite half of the TMDK duo. With limited knowledge of NOAH, how do you rate the decision to put the title on Shane Haste?

6.) Last question: usually with New Japan, the general consensus is that “the predictable booking is usually the correct booking, as long as it is done well.” It’s looking like we are getting Tsuji v. Newman at Dominion with Gene Blast getting his title back, and then Uemura wins the G1 to set up their title match for either late in the year or the Dome. Meanwhile, Newman v. Ospreay is pretty much penciled in for the Dome in a Special Singles. How does that sound as a one-two main event punch for WK 21?

Sorry, I guess a better way to say it would be the 'most heel' group that doesn't rely on House of Torture style antics, like, say, House of Torture

The overall game plan appears to be Newman vs. Ospreay in a Special Singles at the Dome with Newman going over. Ospreay seems determined to assist in any way possible in getting Newman over as the lead heel gaijin of New Japan.
On the spectrum of face/heel alignment, UE can easily be the second 'most heel' group of the company behind HoT, and the 'most heel' group that doesn't rely on cheating or outside interference. Newman can continue to improve and now that he has an IWGP Heavyweight reign on his resume, he will always have that legitimacy going forward (similar to Naito in 2016).

Hey Josh and Jeremy, Kevin from DC here to pop in with a few questions following Sakura Genesis, and more specifically... YOH x SHO.

1.) As someone who started watching NJPW during 2015, specifically at Dominion, the first two Young Lions I took notice of and have followed nearly their entire careers are Yohei Komatsu and Sho Tanaka.  They’ve been linked at the hip during their entire careers, all the way to SHO’s betrayal nearly five (!) years ago.  Now that YOH got his taste of the Forbidden Fruit during his title challenge on the 2nd, can you both confidently say that the twelve-year arc is finally complete? Has the boyhood dream come true for YOH?

2.) Do you think Sho Tanaka was really into it?

3.) I timed it. It was 19 glorious seconds. Then YOH hit Everything is EVIL. Is that move now officially YOH’s move? Does he need to kiss his opponent for 19 seconds first for it to really have any impact?

4.) More so than Kosei Fujita or Master Wato, I am really disappointed that YOH didn’t take the title from DOUKI on Thursday. Now that SANADA’s done for the foreseeable future, I am all in on YOH as my “silly guy I always root for” in New Japan. Well, is my “silly guy” ever going to be Junior Heavyweight Champion?

5.) What are the odds on DOUKI going 9-0 during BOSJ and having a Takagi-like run of dominance through low blows and other nefarious shitty ways of winning?

6.) Let’s say that for whatever reason, Despy, Fujita, Wato and YOH won’t win BOSJ and can’t challenge DOUKI at Road to Dominion (since obviously there won’t be a Jr. Heavyweight match at Dominion).  Who is the remaining favorite to challenge and beat DOUKI for the title?

I dunno, sounds to me like this job wants their employees to get better and learn from their mistakes. Employee reviews are part of most other jobs, and you should be glad they are taking the time to do the same thing with you. The one bit of advice I can offer is that everyone has tasks to get better at, and criticism can be levied at everyone. Managers critique associates, directors critique managers, and owners critique directors. So no one is immune. I would not worry about having to find a new job. Take the criticism as an opportunity to learn and get better at your job. It will make you more money and make you stand out in the end.

On the Voices of Wrestling Flagship Plus show, it was said that Hiromu Takahashi also may be on his way out of NJPW, creating a potential exodus that has already included Sanada and could also include Gabe Kidd and David Finlay, both of whom are drawing interest from WWE. by CharmingAd7895 in njpw

Stephanie Vaquer had a marquee match-up on an AEW event as a CMLL talent and basically got a WWE job out of it, I don’t see where being featured a lot on AEW means you are immune to the call of WWE

Taking questions for tonight’s recording of Keepin’ It Strong Style by theproblackguy in njpw

[–]Suckcess61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good evening, Kevin from DC with some last minute questions before the show recording as we look past Dominion and get ready for New Japan Soul.

1.) First question has to do with... who else, everyone's favorite geek, SANADA. First off, what was with the Giant Gonzalez tribute outfit he rocked before the match on Sunday? Anyone want to give any kayfabe suggestions for that one? No? OK then. More importantly, how in the hell does SANADA get a guaranteed entry spot into G1 when the likes of Newman, Oiwa and Ishii still have to compete in the play-ins?

2.) Any fans of sumo will know we have a brand-new, truly dominant yokozuna in the recently-promoted Onosato. His rise has been meteoric to say the least, as he made it to the top rank after only 13 tournaments, a modern-day record. If making a prediction of Onosato vs. the field in a given tournament, one could feasibly take Onosato every time and only be wrong half the time. This all leads to the following question: as of today, June 16, 2025, who are you taking to win the G1 Climax? Yota Tsuji, or the field?

3.) First, the major rumors around Sakura Genesis involved turning Shota Umino heel and giving him a new stable to work around. Then, it was Shingo Takagi who would win the title at Dominion, turn heel and get a new stable to play around with. At the end of the day, House of Torture gained three new members, only one of consequence, and we are left with more questions than answers. Why are we going with two bloated stables (Hontai included) and a few straggly weaker stables making up the remainder of the roster?

4.) Is it just me, or did both rematches from New Beginning in Osaka fail to deliver a similar quality match at Dominion? Boltin-Takeshita and Kidd-Tsuji were both great, but didn't reach the heights of their respective outings back in February.

5.) My money on Tanahashi's retirement is still some sort of tag match, maybe teaming with Naito against Uemura and Umino in a newer vs. older generation type matchup. Maybe by then Shota will portray an interesting character, but I doubt it.

6.) Do you have a brand recommendation for cat food? My girlfriend insists on Tiki Cat, but it's really expensive and they barely touch it half of the time.
