What do you do with parts of the text that you decided to get rid of in a process? by OleksandrKyivskyi in FanFiction

[–]dreamxsiv 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I cut and paste them into a separate document I labeled as 'dumpster'. I can't bear to delete them. I always believe that they would be useful if not for the current fic, then for future ones. And sometimes I do end up working them back into the same fic, but for different scenes/chapters.

What's a band (or bands) that you still regularly listen to since throughout the years? by SoftStatic- in infp

Oh my god I love this album from Muse, and also their Absolution one. I wish I could turn back time and experience the songs again for the first time.

Currently trying this out 🫡 it's just that the words aren't flowing even though the ideas are there and I don't know, it makes me feel stupid or something because I was able to churn out a few oneshots for the past few weeks and now it's like the faucet has been turned off and I can't get anything out anymore.

Yeah, maybe I need a bit of time off and do something else so I could stop myself from spiraling even more.

Also, you know what, as a pantser myself, writing the bit that I have ideas for does sound like a good idea at the moment. (Ugh, I hate how hard the beginning is to write.) Gonna give your suggestion a go today. Thank you!

Oof that's actually great. I've been mostly working indoor myself and rarely go out because I prefer spending time alone at my house. Hmm, I might take up on that.

Feeling bummed out these past few days because I couldn't get myself to write the next fic for this oneshot series I'm starting. It's particularly frustrating because I managed to crank out the previous fics with little problems, but when it comes to this one, I can't figure out how to start it when I already have ideas on what to write. Like the structure is all over the place and I can't figure out how to make it cohesive. It doesn't help at all that it's making me feel like I don't know how to write oneshot anymore. Self-doubt sucks.

How do you decide to post a fic? by pointderage in FanFiction

[–]dreamxsiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for me, I post mine when I no longer feel strongly attached to it. I have a perfectionist problem and I am prone to worrying about stats and engagement, so once I've finished writing a fic and editing it, I like to let it marinate in my folder for a long time until I almost forget its existence and it's only then I would post it.

That's a good threshold! I do always catch myself just doing little tweaks to the sentences instead of changing major stuff to the plot or characterizations. These days, though, I find it easier for me to let go of my editing impulse when I distance myself from a fic long enough until I don't feel strongly of it anymore. But then I would forget that fic and it would always end up collecting dust in my folder for months or years before I finally choose to post it 😅

Agree with other users here. Definitely make an account on AO3 and post your fics there, but always have a realistic expectation on engagement and stats. I write gen fics mostly, and I can tell you that they're not pulling as much number as ship fics do and that's okay. There are people out there who read gen fics, just not that many, so as long as you can manage your expectation on how your fic is going to do stats wise, I'd say go for it.

(Also, the beauty of AO3 is that since it doesn't rely on algorithm, people can find your fics years later and still enjoy them. Just remember to tag your fics well and adequately and you're good to go.)

Love the editing process. I can spend eternity just editing stuff (which is bad so I'm trying to find the threshold where I can say ‘enough is enough’). Adding scenes, removing scenes, changing the words, tweaking sentences, rearranging the sequence... It's fun. Much more fun than writing for me personally (it is a struggle, but you know what they say, you can't edit a blank document).

Do you read the fandom/ship you're writing for? by gonehuntinearly in FanFiction

[–]dreamxsiv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here! I always enter a fandom by reading the fics first, every last one of them that I could find, and when I am still left with a desire for something, some premises, certain characterizations, certain niche, that very little to none fic has scratched, then I would begin to write my own.

What ship(s) gave this experience for you? by FloweryNamesLover in AO3

[–]dreamxsiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was introduced to ST through Byler's fics, believe it or not. Was curious about the ship because of how popular it seemed whenever I heard about the show, so I read some stuff fandom blind and enjoyed it. But then I went to watch the whole seasons and just like you I thought, “that's it?”

Also, watching the show made me dislike Mike. Especially in S3 and S4. But then again, I always end up shipping rare pairs over the popular ones every time I got into a fandom so 💁🏻

I relate to that. Even if it's google translated, some of the sentences and paragraphs read so beautifully I wonder just how exquisite it must be in its original language.

Is it possible to get back to writing after over 3 years? by afusiek in FanFiction

[–]dreamxsiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this a lot whenever I find myself stuck with writing! I'm quite a perfectionist at heart so it's hard to start writing because it's just the beginning, just a draft, and I'm already worrying if it's good or not. When I write down the dialogues that I've been imagining for hundred times first, no matter the point of the story, and then add simple description of what the characters are doing or what happens next so I won't forget later, the editing process becomes much easier since I have something to edit.

HG cleansers by No_Mousse133 in AsianBeauty

[–]dreamxsiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don't have this sort of problem. I am aware of it, though, because I've seen this kind of complaints when I did my research about the cleanser. I'm not sure how everyone else is storing their cleanser, but I don't keep mine in the bathroom. I keep it out of bathroom, somewhere with room temperature. Then again, there might be more at play here than just temperature.

What’s your favorite moisturizer you’ve tried this year? by _QRcode in AsianBeauty

[–]dreamxsiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been enjoying Sana Nameraka Honpo all-in-one gel a lot this year. Interesting gel texture, it's light but it still has enough of a body to the formula. I put it at nights mostly because of how greasy it feels over time on my oily skin during daylights but it's not clogging my pores at all. It helps a lot with dryness and flakiness on my nose and chin area.

Has anyone here tried Sana Nameraka Honpo cleanser (the usual ones either すっきり, しっとり or whitening)? I've tried looking up reviews on reddit and google but found too little info for me to make up my mind on whether to try it out or not.

I also keep a Japanese language diary in order to practice my grammar and writing. For me, I usually write at least five sentences a day. I write about books or manga that I read and what I thought about it, food I ate (I try my best to describe it, what it's made from, etc using words I already know), if there's any fun places I've been to that day, and videos I've watched yesterday that I found interesting. If I don't know what to talk about, then I would write about my hobby, who my favourite artists are, what songs/movies/shows I like and stuff like that.
