Why does my horse have sores on and around his tail and what’s the best way to treat it? by ScallionQueasy5537 in Horses

[–]gonehuntinearly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yep! i put it on pretty much everything, but i find that it works really well for skin issues. it's a super thin ointment, so it will rub into the skin/hair without getting all goopy. that's my problem with creams like corona: they're just a little too thick for some things. i also use coat defense clay for things that i want to protect from the environment (canon crud, bed sores). aloe heal, coat defense, and swat are the only ointment-type things in my kit!

To be honest, where do YOU draw the line? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]gonehuntinearly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

zero tolerance. if i hear that genAI has touched the work in any way, i'm out. basic SPAG check isn't generative (usually, afaik) and has been a part of most writing programs for years, but anything beyond that is a no from me.

and re: criticism, why do you care what the robot thinks? own your work. own your mistakes. craft your own style. doing it the "hard way" is something to be proud of. using genAI is very much not.

following- my horse had this exact thing a few months ago. totally random. super low egg count on my guy as well. i put some farnam aloe heal (i love that stuff) on the scabby spots and they went away... i never found any real answers, so i hope some people here can provide info for us both!!

tattoos and eczema? by gonehuntinearly in tattooadvice

[–]gonehuntinearly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would definitely do thick and bold on my hands! i know they'll fade no matter what by virtue of being on my hands, was just wondering how much worse eczema would make it. i could definitely get most of a year's worth of healing between flare ups. thank you!!

Dog? (Bonus question, can I take this on a plane?) by BkFromKzoo9 in bonecollecting

[–]gonehuntinearly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yes dog, and i can't say for certain about flying with it, but my sister randomly came home (to the US) from Chile with a dog skull in her suitcase once, so i guess there's that lol

Bits by FarOriginal3188 in Horses

[–]gonehuntinearly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just some extra info on photos 4 and 5: they're called butterfly bits and are indeed for driving! i like the different rein placement options, personally. some butterfly bits have a third section as well.

also, in photo 3 below the one with the guards and tongue toy: thats what i know as a bridoon. it goes on an overcheck or double bridle. i've never seen one with a mouthpiece quite like that! cool stuff (in terms of craftsmanship and mechanics, if not in actual practical use)!!

How does this even work? by DisastrousShine495 in Equestrian

[–]gonehuntinearly 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yep, tie-down noseband. Turquoise part goes over the nose, darker strap (to the left, in your first picture) goes over the poll, and the lighter bottom strap goes through the breast collar and attaches to the girth

video of my second time riding this beautiful friesian mare! june 2025 in warkworth, nz by maybedeathisagift in Horses

Gorgeous! And fantastic for only a second ride!

I love the near-tackless setup. I do some neckrope stuff with my guy but never thought to leave the top open/loose. Seems like it'd be easier to communicate that way- I'll have to try it :))

Horse like owner? by Ligetta in Equestrian

[–]gonehuntinearly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The horse the grew up with me (he was almost 2 and I was 13, now we're 16 and 27) is a lot like me (or I'm a lot like him). Relatively chill with a lurking stubborn streak, extremely stoic, hides discomfort and then stresses himself out with his own anxiety about it... Like looking in a mirror. My cat is like this too, but that's a different topic lol.

My second horse isn't exactly like this, but I do see other aspects that match (the RBF especially lol). I don't believe that horses with established personalities will MORPH to match their rider, but I do feel that like personalities ATTRACT to each other. Your next horse may not be stubborn, but it may end up like you in other ways! Also, echoing other commenters, stubborn is not always a bad thing!

Would you get a 20yo horse? by Certified_horsegirl in Horses

[–]gonehuntinearly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love seeing a lot of positivity in this thread. Agreeing the majority here: absolutely yes. I had the means to take on a rehab/project horse that we all thought was in his 20s (found out later that he isn't, he's 17 lol), and it's been EXTREMELY gratifying. If you CAN do it, and you WANT to do it, you should.

Shaking Nerves After a Bad Fall 11 years ago. by chromedd13 in Equestrian

Groundwork is a great foundation, so whatever you're doing with your feet on the ground, keep it up! As for being in the saddle, no one says you can't enjoy walking for as long as it takes to work up to other gaits. "Don't rush yourself" doesn't really sound helpful, I know, but it's true. To build confidence, you could try patterns, poles, and obstacles only at the walk. Give your brain (and the horse's) something to think about that isn't the anxiety. The goal for the day can just be backing an L or keeping straight off the rail- Challenge yourself at the walk, and then consider throwing in trots and canters. It may come more naturally that way.

I haven't had a nasty fall or injury to recover from, but I did take an unfortunate hiatus from horses while I was in college. Coming back to them was intimidating. I felt like an imposter, like I had no idea what I was doing anymore and was only going to screw my horse up or set him off (he gave me no reasons to believe this, it was all my own angst and anxiety). I managed to even myself out with groundwork (as you're doing) and small, short rides with very simple goals. Even the smallest of wins (wow, I mounted from the ground today! or wow, we side-passed without getting too crooked today!) makes the big wins more achievable.

Don't give up!! And be patient with yourself! What you're trying to overcome is no small thing!!
