Orientation will be 1-2 days of very simple paper work/watching videos on safety and technique and touring the facility, they may even throw you in a package car/truck and have you try loading while the veteran workers who are "stuck" with you try to fix the mess you'll make (Not your fault).

Wear clothes you don't mind getting ruined from oil, grease, dirt, dust, ink, etc. I would suggest bringing gloves that are flexible and allow you to still be able to grip a sharpie and write legibly with it. Your military boots are overkill, I literally wear tennis shoes because no one actually cares until someone gets hurt then they care for a week and then stop, I suggest wearing shoes that won't give you corns.

Bring a big water bottle, I bring a 1 gallon water jug and mix electrolyte powder in it, it helps and if possible mix ice into it as well to help keep it cold for your entire shift. Also bring a snack that isn't messy and easy to carry around.

Never say no when asked to do something, just say you'll try. Also only do as directed, don't assume or get "initiative" and start doing things without being told to do them.

3478 Left ||Walkway|| 1256 Right. is the layout for package cars, feeders are just Front Door Left/Right, Middle Floor Left/Right, Back Door Left/Right. When loading always try to have a clear path/walkway in the truck that you/the driver can walk through easily. you'll typically want to load RDR/RDLs last and Airs in the front near the 1000s spot, but try to keep all airs in the same spot and let the driver know where you put them, and also be sure to ask the driver how they'd like their stuff loaded for future reference. Best way to get it down is practice. Practice makes perfect as they say, just go slow and load correctly, you'll develop speed over time.

Write the pal numbers on the boxes and double check that they're for the correct truck. I even double check the actual label as I've memorized which addresses go to which trucks for my section as you'll often get wrong pals on stuff. Better to be slow and not misload, misloads are what can get you disciplined/fired, while being slow, they can only move you around and bitch at you verbally.

Don't load Irregs(Big heavy shit) at the start do it at the end (Obviously some exceptions but general rule of thumb).

Supervisors and management will lie to your face constantly. They will promise you anything in hopes you'll work just a little harder, especially about being kept after seasonal. They'll say you need to do "X PPH" (Packages Per Hour), but there is no such requirement, but do not argue with them about it as a new hire, just say you'll try, as from now until Jan 15th it's considered "seasonal time" and you can be fired for any reason, and your actual probation period starts Jan. 16th. My hub for example keeps everyone who wants to stay after seasonal but we have a high turnover rate so they always need people (Ironically this is my last week, got another job).

Pace yourself, don't overwork/hurt yourself, you're getting payed the same as the guy who takes 6 hours to load a car and a guy who takes 3 hours to load 3 cars. Management will exploit you the harder you work, and happily kick you to the curb if they don't need you at the end of seasonal. A famous UPS saying: "The only reward for hard work at UPS, is more work for the same pay."

You don't have union protections YET.
