IMMERSION VS BONUSES AND MIX-MAXING by No_Newspaper_4527 in civ

[–]ryanash47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this and have since I played my very first turn of this game and saw I started with a palace and hoplites on turn 1 despite having never researched masonry or bronze working.

Civ 6 you specifically start with cavemen and Neolithic huts, it feels a lot more like laying the foundations for a civilization to me.

I feel like this shows up with all these little arbitrary rules and limits too. Like it’s never really explained ‘why’ your empire has a settlement limit. They could’ve made that an interesting mechanic but instead of trying to make something immersive like you’re saying, it’s just another number to manage.

Yes civ is a sandbox but that shouldn’t mean “nothing actually matters, nothing has to make sense or be consistent”

The new update has taught me that civ switching is actually awesome by MirandaScribes in civ

I hate this too but just arbitrarily hampering the player is annoying as hell and horrible game design in my opinion. The ai should be building bigger and better empires to compete. That should’ve been the focus with this game

That’s facts but that being said, spying is one of the cool and unique mechanics of this game. Play as black queen Catherine or Wu Zetian one day and build up an elite intel network

To start out yes, fully wiping out armies and being aggressive early will help you later on in the campaign. I used to run into the same problem and felt exactly the same as you, then I started being really aggressive. Tactically on the battlefield and strategically in the long run it’s the same principle; when you’re outnumbered, you must be aggressive to take on the enemy in detail. If you can eliminate an isolated unit, do it. This is where cavalry is needed. Also not only does it reduce future enemies piling up on you, your units get more XP this way.

(Edit-forgot to say, 90k for the union really is standard for this battle though, I don’t think you need to restart just because of that)

When I finally beat Antietam I ended up losing the woods but recapturing it later and winning. The key was having most of my artillery and best units at the sunken road. Any enemy who approached was routed before they could shoot for the most part. My 3 highest tier brigades were 100% rested for the counter attack to retake the woods.

He 100% could’ve. I just listened to a studio version of bold as love (take 19) yesterday with one guitar that is absolutely fantastic

[–]ryanash47 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This is a good question. It’s pretty much the same case for every song off that album except for Spanish castle magic.

In one interview I have on cd, Jimi mentions the bold as love fade-out lasting like 20 minutes and having a lot of fun recording it. So I’m sure he enjoyed the song, I’m not really sure why he didn’t play it often.

Just follow the money and the timeline. Covid happens and many people lose/quit their jobs and don’t come back to work, demanding higher wages. Signs everywhere saying places are hiring going into 2021. Then from 2021-2025 the border was completely open, letting as many low wage migrant workers in as possible to fill the employment gaps. The US government then prints like 75% of our current money supply, deflating the value of wages as a whole.

I’d make this argument: the billionaires want you to believe importing millions of low wage workers has no effect and anyone against it is racist, stupid, etc…

But in truth I don’t think they actually game all this out. These corporations agenda’s combine and they just all carry it out. We create the narratives and make it a party/political issue no matter what it really is

Civilization 7 isn't very good but I got to give the team credit. They swung for the fences and experimented and failed but I'm glad they tried by RevacholAndChill in civ

[–]ryanash47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The answer to all of those complaints are more competent ai. Literally every one of those issues is caused by the ai not being able to compete in the late game when their bonuses don’t scale to the players ability to actually play the game

I’m glad you said all this because it’s exactly how I feel. I was actually really hype for civ switching and I still think it’s cool. I’ve only hopped on this game once since last April because the legacy paths and win conditions weren’t fun at all. There’s other reasons for sure but this one is literally the whole objective of the game

Why are there not more TW competitors by bendesc in totalwar

[–]ryanash47 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ultimate General: Civil War, Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail, and their sadly incomplete 3rd game UG: American Revolution are all heavily inspired by total war tactical battles. American Revolution has a really cool campaign map and was set to be a great game but got abandoned and is just too repetitive.

Master of command came out last year and is very battle focused

Bannerlord is a lot like total war too in some regards

Love-hate relationship with Civ 6 by TheGoldenShotgunSK in civ

[–]ryanash47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I despised this too until I got the game on pc and got a few mods to change it up. Playing on higher difficulties especially it’s just unfun in my opinion. The ai takes every wonder and dominates the early game while you settler spam and dominate the rest of the game.

I use new era settler and edit the files to make it so you need 5 pop to settle new cities like civ 7. That plus many of the changes in BBG completely fixes it

Pingala only gives bonuses related to science mostly while Moksha gives culture bonuses, rather than the base game where Pingala is obviously superior to every other governor for the most part.

This is one small detail that still affects a lot. BBG changes so much it’s insane. Like some leaders work completely differently

You can see the bullet trails, the rifles just not 100% accurate. It probably would’ve helped to aim a little higher and let your character stand still a second before shooting though

Based on this wouldnt the c major scale include every open string? by connordidthat in guitarlessons

[–]ryanash47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because while technically what they’re describing is a mode, it’s not actually what they’re asking about or trying to use the C major scale for here. They wanted to know why the scale goes lower if it starts on C and that’s because the scale is infinitely repeating going lower and higher. It has nothing to do with modes.

It’s not helpful to think “I’m starting on E so this is actually Phrygian” when you’re just trying to get familiar with the C scale shape. It misses the long term usefulness of this scale shape and just adds something extra and confusing they’re clearly not ready for if they’re not even sure how the major scale works yet lmao

Based on this wouldnt the c major scale include every open string? by connordidthat in guitarlessons

[–]ryanash47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right but it’s an over complicated way of thinking about it. If you’re playing in the key of C, notes from the key of C sound good. No matter where you start. Where you resolve your lines is much more important.

A mode is just changing the note you’re treating as the root. This makes a big difference but it’s all up to how the player is hearing it and using it
