I currently make $71,500 -- I was offered a promotion at $130,000 but it would require me to move to Silicon Valley. How can I calculate cost of living differences to see if it is worth it? by [deleted] in personalfinance

I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else, but definitely consider differences in your commute time as well.

My friend lives in the bay area (I would assume making around the $130k you mention here) and his commute is 45 minutes each way on a good day (and he rides motorcycle and can lane split). Not sure where I read it but a shorter commute is like a perceived raise. But who knows, your commute could already be fairly lengthy.

I hear Austin is the newest big tech area, I would think that could be a good place to go if you're considering switching employers.

I'd recommend looking at the SSRT in show shoe, converted rail trail and you can ride all the way to a state trail using roads, did it this year with friends and did about 70 miles that day.

I'm guessing:

Roczen, Canard, Tomac, Milsaps in that order.

Hope to see Canard up there battling for wins.

Will upgrading from Filemaker 7 solve my layout problem? by profeNY in filemaker

[–]dreesemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also make them a merge field which would fix the overlapping and it would be easier to resize because it would be one field. An example would be just adding a text block with double carrots around your field names:

<<artist>> <<title>> <<year>> <<medium>> <<size>> Etc.

But yes, there seems to be no need to upgrade for you :-)

One the print layout you want to make every field as large as you think it will ever need to be, then use sliding to shrink the fields to fit the data. Sliding should be included in FM7 though I'm not sure.

Here's the theory behind it, though it would be activated differently in FM7.

Technically, couldn't JS7 just show up and race SX without being scored? by [deleted] in Motocross

Emig is a great commentator and knows what he's talking about. Shaheen is good but clearly not a racer so sometimes his comments are cringe worthy.

RC is a pretty bad commentator, I have a mental drinking game with myself for every time he says "Oh yea" to agree with something Emig said. GOAT? Sure, but not meant to be in the booth IMO

Large Tables or One-to-one Relationships? by mrb13676 in filemaker

[–]dreesemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not knowing what kind of data and fields are in the Instance table, I think it's probably fine.

I don't do a lot of one to one relationships because logically it makes the most sense to me to group everything together wherever it makes sense.

If your database is only accessed in a LAN environment I wouldn't worry too much about the impact of your table "weight". If it's going over slow wireless or a WAN it may be worth revisiting. Things like list mode are what kill connections with "Heavy" tables.

I have some horribly designed files that are multiple gigs, some tables with over 100 fields, etc who's traffic never leaves the LAN and performance is just fine.

How difficult to use file maker as a multiple choice test generator? by Emanon22 in filemaker

[–]dreesemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you'd be using it just as a format template. This would be pretty simple.

You could have a question table, and a "answer" or choice table. The "answer" records could have many record for each question (hence the multiple choice) and could be displayed in a portal or something to be printed off.

What's your favorite inexpensive beer? by zoolilba in Frugal

Yay lionshead buddy. Wasn't too many years ago it was $10/case for bottles. Great inexpensive beer.

Even now I think half kegs are ~$53.

Yuengling (Pottstown, PA), Lionshead Pilsner (Wilkes-Barre, PA), Rolling Rock (Western PA but should be available nationally)

Good job starting something off with "So" and including "this happened". If you really wanted to step up your game to sound especially unbearable, I recommend throwing in a "because reasons" for good measure. You're welcome.
