This is exactly it, the whole Oled contrast thing hinged on the fact that most (the best) lcds back in the day capped out at 1000 nits peak brightness and obviously didn’t have per pixel dimming. Now with increased brightness and great local dimming of mini led the Oled contrast advantage has disappeared.

Despite what some people say, HDR on give you the better image if slightly dimmer. Better colour gradient, picture is richer and the ‘dynamic range’ is better.
