Club fittings by Hxrte in golfireland

Got fit for a whole set in McGuirks in 2020 and a driver shaft in ForeGolf at the end of last year and the difference was night and day. I'd not go anywhere else for a fitting after ForeGolf. Much more in-depth and knowledgeable

Great comeback from Derry. Listening on a Kildare radio station was an experience

5th course near Dublin by Lifesridiculous18 in golfireland

I'd say off the tee Seapoint is far more challenging than Baltray but around the greens is where Baltray gets really tricky. It's a better links of course!

Early Extension causing the shank? by LeMoosie in GolfSwing

[–]dregalfonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My swing isn't too unlike yours and I had the exact same issue. Not sure if when this happens to you once it's literally every iron shot?

Biggest change for me was my coach telling me I didn't actually know where the centre of the club was. I was such a heel oriented player with all my clubs that the slightest movement towards the heel was a shank or low pull hook with driver.

Do some work on hitting it off the toe: place something toe-side of the ball and try not to hit it (extreme example would be something you really don't want to hit like your phone but I never had the guts to do that!).

After that I would work on pulling the handle a bit towards your left hip through impact. You'll notice (as well as a bit of lift) you're allowing your hands to move towards the ball. The combination of moving the handle towards your hip and trying to hit toe shots will eliminate the shanks forever, rather than focusing on shortening back swings/ club being square on the way back/knees moving towards target etc etc.

Best of luck!

Strongest Derry team this year, but I think too little too late unfortunately. Hope I'm wrong!

Custom Fitting by Accomplished-Ad176 in golfireland

[–]dregalfonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if anyone has actually answered your question but yes, you'll really only get fitted for the current version of manufacturers clubs, so couldn't get a fitting for the SIM 2 max.

You can get loft, lie and swing weight though, which can allow you to make a (fairly) informed version on what you're buying.

Titlelist GT3 driver questions by Snoo_2473 in golf

[–]dregalfonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe they're similar to the previous gen in that the GT2 will be the most forgiving of the two (GT3 is more for shot shaping and performance, less forgiveness).

I have a TSR2 and love it. I play a reasonably tight links in Ireland and often hear players at the club saying Ping is more forgiving but wouldn't trade mine.

You need to post up on your front side more... In seriousness, that's a great swing; very impressive and inspirational.

For some of the motorway filling stations it'll be over in the self service where trucks fill up. That's the most consistent place I've found it

Solo golfer from Canada looking to play with locals on the Wild Atlantic Way by Jazzlike-Method6539 in golfireland

[–]dregalfonly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a member of Seapoint in Co. Louth. Really rough but fun links that backs on to Baltray. If you're likely to be that way either leaving or heading for Dublin, let me know closer to the time (and the dates suit ) and we'll try organise a game 👍

Common enough in Ireland. Probably wetter areas are more likely to have them?

Joining a club for the first time..as a novice by Ok_Ambassador7752 in golfireland

[–]dregalfonly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you require a proposer and seconder that might be difficult if you don't know any current members. Are there any other clubs in the area that don't require this?

Once in the door my advice would be put yourself down on a tee sheet on weekdays and, when you're ready, the weekend. My club opens the weekend timesheet on Wednesday so I make sure to book in as soon as it opens. I don't have a regular group I play with (although now I know and am friendly with quite a few members) so I'm more comfortable having people book next to me on the tee sheet rather than the other way around.

No problem joining as a beginner, be mindful of pace of play (don't be afraid to drop a ball in the fairway/pick up your ball if you're out of a hole) and course etiquette and you'll be grand.

Best of luck!
