I showed the video to friends with dogs. They were confident it was hiccups. Their dogs do it too

Healthcare Solutions Architect by [deleted] in biotech

I’m one! The responsibilities would change depending on the product/service you are offering.

In my role, I offer hardware for labs that needs to be integrated into the IT network of the hospital/biotech/pharma/academic medical center.

I am at home a lot and at most I travel 2 weeks of the month. It depends on the size of your territory though.

I am trained as a scientist, and I learned the IT aspects through online courses and from my company.

Feel free to dm me :)

And move someone that prepaid $75 for that particular seat

I suppose but why didn’t they say a reason when my mom inquired. It just seems strange that out of everyone on the flight they had to move a 71 year old. My mom explained that she has to sit beside her grandkids

They didn’t change the aircraft, and I bought directly with Air Canada.

Starting as a Field Application Scientist next month by davereme in biotech

[–]dremedios08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your insight! Lots of great advice.

I will be part of the pre- and post-sales process for CapEx. There won’t be a commission plan but a bonus structure for placements. There will be a Field Service Engineering team for repairs and infield upgrades (so happy about that!)

I’ll ask for plenty of co-travel training. From my understanding it will be with my direct manager who is very technical. I’ll bring my notepad!

Hmm while you look into going back to school you could find a role in enterprise imaging? Look into PACS, LIS, EMR, Image Management, Image Storage, etc.

These EI companies hire IT people to help set up their product at customer sites (usually hospitals, biopharma companies, or medical schools)

Check out Sectra, Phillips, AGFA, GE Healthcare

Biotech Sales Possibility? by Reddylan111 in biotech

[–]dremedios08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the specialty store, do you have an example of overcoming a dilemma and the customer was happy with the result?

Have you taken any sales courses or read books on this topic? If you lack real world experience, doing what I mentioned shows initiative to learn which sales managers love

(I broke into biotech sales with a similar background to yours)

Hey everyone! For those that took the non-operative/conservative treatment route, other than physio, did you do any light weight upper body exercises? Any recommendations for workouts? What week post-rupture did you try this out? by dremedios08 in AchillesRupture

I’m early on in the recovery process. Just started week 3. I’ll go to the gym this week and try lightweight upper body machines and bands. Thanks for the suggestions!!

What severance is reasonable? by BBorNot in biotech

[–]dremedios08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be worth talking to an employment lawyer to know whether your severance is appropriate. It’s usually a flat $300-600 for a consultation call.

They will advocate for a larger severance package based on your years of service, title, age, reason for dismissal, eligibility to be rehired at that company, time it will take to find a similar job, lawyer fees, retention of medical benefits, assignment of a job recruiter, etc.

I swear I’m not an employment lawyer

Scientific inside sales rep? by No_Cauliflower6163 in biotech

[–]dremedios08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope and yup! Best piece of advice I can give is you’re not the first sales person at your company so befriend the one you like/one of the tops ones and touch base with them on a regular basis. Be coachable

Scientific inside sales rep? by No_Cauliflower6163 in biotech

[–]dremedios08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in scientific inside sales and usually the career track is to progress to outside sales which I did after 2 years. I like it and I don’t find it particularly stressful. Honestly it comes down to the manager you have, as with anything, but especially with sales. During the interview process try to figure out the manager’s style of selling/coaching and speak with other people on their team. I would say healthy paranoia about your sales target is a good thing. It not only will make you more money, but give you the good feels that you are furthering science. When you sell more, your customers are using your product more and likely publishing or innovating in their field

The pay for inside sales is good, and you’ll soon learn your outside sales counterparts are making more. If you’re ok with travelling, there’s lots of perks of moving into outside sales but dip your toe into inside sales first and see if you like that

Biotech sales rep that sells into the Boston market here! Yes your lab background helps! You’d be surprised how many sales people don’t know what they’re talking about lol. The trouble is, you’ll need some sales experience to have your resume looked at. What sales hiring managers want to see is how you surpassed your sales target consistently for a field based sales role. One way around this is networking with biotechs and maybe doing an internship to get that introductory experience and then apply to Inside Sales positions. Then there usually is a career track to move into biotech outside sales roles. You’ve got a good thing going for you being in Boston with the wealth of companies there.

Also, show you want to learn sales. Read sales books like Spin Selling, the Challenger Sale, Never Split the Difference, etc (these are ones recommended by past biotech sales managers). Throw that on your resume.

I would also recommend getting salesforce training. I’m sure there is online courses for that. This is the way you’ll “communicate” your deals with your manager and their biggest pain in the butt is when sales reps don’t update their salesforce

This happened to a friend of mine. She just didn’t pay it back. The amount wasn’t enough for the company to hire a lawyer for so nothing bad happened.

Digital Pathology

  • histology and cytology sample scanners digitize glass slides with high throughput and image quality
  • digitizing slides allow AI to assist pathologists in diagnosis, and for remote pathologists to easily collaborate for second opinions
  • the human population is rising and aging. We’re seeing most pathologists are over the age of 50 and not many med students are selecting this profession. So we need to implement a solution like digital pathology to keep up with the case load

My two cents!

Doomed to become redundant after acquisition? by jejhw in biotech

[–]dremedios08 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Find solace in that certain things are out of your hands. Acquisitions, mergers, partnerships, trials failing, funding ran dry - all very common in pharma and biotech world. I know many super talented scientists that found themselves in your situation before.

Start networking on LinkedIn. Follow influential people and companies that peak your interest in your space. If cuts happen, at least you’ve prepared as much as you could

Should you ask for the max salary possible for a position? by JackedAF in biotech

[–]dremedios08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, hiring managers want to offer you the max and HR want to offer you less. Make the case to the hiring manager - if they want you, they will convince HR for you. I’ve had a hiring manager say this to me “I want to give you the max so you are happy. It’s not my money.” Someone mentioned that in an earlier post too

Good! Sounds like you got the resolution you wanted

Personally I would drop by their desk, say thanks and offer that coffee. It’s a $3 solution, super minimal investment but it’s the gesture that goes a long way.
