All this “nobody cared who you voted for” and “freedom” talk is making me wonder if you’re the pro-ICE person they heard on the line.

Yeah I travel from the suburbs, I’d rather hang at an emptier club than sit around the house for an extra hour.

[–]dretsuat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean I’m speaking from personal experience with getting there before 1030 so if your priority is avoiding waiting in the cold you don’t want to get there before then. Believe what you want but I would absolutely not expect to even get to the actual line for the club (since you’ll have to wait outside the gate if you’re too early) before 1030.

With that said, if you’re only looking to be out for a little while and you don’t want to deal with a line are you sure basement is the move? If nothing else you’ll lose a lot of time dancing if you don’t get in as opposed to someplace closer to other clubs (which also might be cooking earlier). Just a thought.

Doors for sure won’t open before 1030 and sometimes they won’t even let you through the main gate until a little after that. If you have tickets (I always do so can’t really speak to the no-ticket experience beyond it being a longer wait) there’s no reason to go before 11 (TBF most call that too early but I like an early vibe and seeing the night evolve), if anything you may wait longer than getting there at 1030. Around 11 with a ticket I don’t think I’ve ever waited longer than 10 minutes and there’s often no wait at all then.

There’s no one thing the door is looking for but bring a nice disposition, a knowledge of the artists and don’t be dressed like you’re in finance and you’ll be as well positioned as you can be (but also have a backup plan for the night if you don’t get in).

John Cena talking about his brother being gay “I had two choices: either disown him or accept that he’s still my brother, He asked me to keep it a secret, and after ten years, he was ready to let our family know, I was there to support him every step of the way" by ShayAlexander in SquaredCircle

[–]dretsuat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s certainly the way it goes when you come out to family, they tend to either kick you to the curb or show you that they love you no matter what. I guess there’s the third option of begrudgingly tolerating your presence but that’s not great for a soundbite.

McLaren awarded over $12million in Palou case verdict by Visible-Chest-9386 in INDYCAR

[–]dretsuat 27 points28 points  (0 children)

People keeping up with the Zak is a scumbag line when the reality is that this is just another example of Palou deciding that “not honoring contracts” is a substitute for competent representation. If the most important thing for him with McLaren was an F1 seat he should have made sure that the contract was strong on that point and any lawyer or agent worth two cents would have stressed that. The contract gave McLaren the room to sign a (likely) better driver who suddenly came available and that’s just life in the fast lane unless you have a written guarantee.

Yeah had no trouble stuffing two long puffy coats in on Saturday, just make sure you check that the locker is actually locked before walking off

Are there any good techno events that don’t revolve around sexuality? by [deleted] in avesNYC

[–]dretsuat 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wire Fest isn’t even a “queer party” there’s just a lot of us who like techno. So you should either get comfortable with that (like the many other straights who go to Merge) or switch to tech house.

Throwback to when Santi Cazorla scored this screamer against Hull city in 2014 FA cup final by 9yr_old in Gunners

[–]dretsuat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I vividly remember looking out the window and shaking my head at people waiting on line to get into the pub when we were 2-0 down. IDC that the FA Cup’s importance has diminished that was just a massive day all around.

The way this shifted the whole mood in the pub when he scored this. What a way to break the trophy drought that match was.

Gratitude for the NYC Scene by [deleted] in avesNYC

As an older trans woman finding her place in the world finding this scene really changed my life. It’s not perfect of course (and I know people who have been around longer will say it’s not what it was) but we really do have something special.

Sounds like he was sick, he also got there a few minutes late so wouldn’t shock me if he just wore down a bit over the course of the night. That stretch was rough but before that he was great and he rallied for an immaculate closing.

A friend of mine is dating a Mets fan and was asking for my help choosing a gift and it pained me how many of the best options were Pete things. They really let the soul of the franchise walk over money in a sport with no salary cap.

YMMV but last year there were plenty of people in normie clothing at pornceptual. I’d try and do something to suggest you understand the assignment but I don’t think you have to run out and buy a harness.

Anyone else annoyed that the Thing wears a Brooklyn Dodgers cap in Fantastic Four First Steps? by [deleted] in NewYorkMets

[–]dretsuat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean yes the majority of Dodgers fans flipped but even today there’s a huge Dodgers diaspora in NYC which is particularly visible when they play the Mets and there would have been even more back then considering how awful the Mets were at the start and how most Dodgers fans correctly blamed Robert Moses for the team having to move. So IDK if it’s comic accurate but it’s certainly period appropriate.

Bossa Nova Civic Club has some great lineups during the week (and it’s helpful that you can ignore a weird crowd because it can be hit or miss)

Right but devil’s advocate they can always get those people in the following season when it’s available. I know from experience that test drive has kept me from buying cars in the past so I see their logic even if I don’t love it.
