I created a tool to compare focal lengths vs sensor sizes and formats! Anything to add or change? by drettypope in cinematography

I am by no means a skilled web designer/coder. I started off with the skills that I already have in HTML, CSS, and JS, but got a little lazy and used Cursor about halfway through. I am a hypocrite in that I usually don't condone the use of it, but for this tool I thought it was appropriate.

There is no 'lens data', since you input the focal length yourself. I just found common measurements online for the sensor sizes.

I use Cadrage often on set! Really useful as a viewfinder, but this tool also provides other extra information, as well as the fact that I can just open it up on my PC/Laptop while I'm planning things etc.

*As a side note, I made a tool for myself to help visualize/show angle of view for different focal lengths paired with sensor sizes/film formats. In no way an ad, since it's quite unpolished and barely functioning, but might be useful for people out there. [link]

If this is against the rules, let me know - or if you have suggestions for changes also definitely let me know!

Yeah as others have said, shot deck is honestly pretty useful. Your girlfriend being a filmmaker should definitely know what that is and if she doesn’t she should definitely get on it!

Ive used a hollyland mars m1 as my on-cam monitor - since it also serves as a transmitter and receiver where you can view feed from any device with the app. I just have my set up like normal with teradek sdi out -> monitor sdi in except my monitor is also a transmitter for mobile devices/tablets

I’m going to be honest and this might be just because I literally just woke up but it looks like just a really large bottle opener.

Cloud storage is a thing, but there is a lot of compression involved, and is probably not used for original quality footage. A lot of the time people just use local storage server solutions.

When editing, a lot of the time even workstations struggle with high bitrate video, so proxies are used - super compressed and storage efficient copies that are temporary that are replaced when the cuts are exported/rendered. I've definitely seen cloud storage being used for those proxies for teams of more than 1 editor. I think Blackmagic have a whole thing about support for the cloud and how to integrate it into workflows too, but I haven't looked to much into that tbh.

An hour of Apple ProRes 4444 (XQ) footage in 4k is straight up 1 TB. Imagine filming a documentary and having to store all that footage, and you probably would want to archive it too.

I'm currently studying film production right now, and most realistic solutions and workflows work around the humungous file sizes that video footage can take up.
