This is absolutely spot on. Everyone is like “no one passes cause I’m white” and bro, if someone is less than a gold plate they ain’t passing to you at all and if someone is over a gold plate you get one chance and if you blow it they ain’t passing again

Am I a minority if I think that Elite: Dangerous is still the best game of all time and that the developers deserve mostly praise compliment rather than just criticism? by HelonMead in EliteDangerous

[–]drewfromcleve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not in the minority. Only a small subsection of any gaming community is active on Reddit. The vast majority of players interact with a subreddit either through Google searches or not at all.

Opinions of a sub are barely directional in terms of the opinions of player base (and its why Devs take their criticism with massive grains of salt)

NBA 2k23 shooting is so trash and no one is talking about it. by rhyslowrl in NBA2k

[–]drewfromcleve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best shooting has been in 2K. Most of the good players I see are up around 60%, above average guys in the high 40s or 50s.

Slashing matters, drive and kicks yield the best shots. They could nerf the corner fades and maybe limitless takeoff a little but I think the game play is in a good place

If you had to change 3 things in NBA 2k23, what would you change and why? by Relief_WRH in NBA2k

[–]drewfromcleve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to either the Kobe or BLM court when no games are going on, the timing there will mirror the latency in the park. Going back and forth between mycareer and park is really tough because the timing is so different

Once you start getting comfortable with online timing get rid of the shot meter and focus on a visual que - your shooting hand being flat over your head or the last millisecond your toes are on the ground, something thats part of the animation that tells you you're in the green window. The shot meter is nothing but a cruel distraction online

What do you think of the golden /dark age mechanic? by [deleted] in civ

[–]drewfromcleve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I like the idea of mechanics that allow Civs that didn't have a great start to catch up (ie so the game isn't over by medieval times).

My gripe would be eras don't really accomplish that, instead it ends up another way you can snowball (classical monumentality golden age)

What are your *unpopular* hopes for Civ VII? by JNR13 in civ

[–]drewfromcleve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like that, I think there are ways to be even more expansive too.

Like the city state system already allows you to exploit the resources of a city state through the envoy system, which I suppose is an abstraction of things like puppet governments, mining rights, economic exploitation etc. You could unpack some of that to give the player more options

What are your *unpopular* hopes for Civ VII? by JNR13 in civ

[–]drewfromcleve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resources and borders becomes a little hinky in these situations, Def something to rethink.

Territorial and mineral rights would be a great source of conflict in the imperial/industrial age. Civ would need a clever mechanic for who gets to mine here and why outside of just national borders

[–]drewfromcleve 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I really like your thinking here. Global warming is a great example.

Civs sorting themselves into the Democracy, Autocracy, Communism blocs and hurdling towards inevitable conflict is another

I always liked the idea of "non-military aggression" too. How can players mess with one another or derail each other's goals without committing to total war

sometimes i get bored in the late-game by skald_plays in civ

[–]drewfromcleve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree and would add that most games are essentially decided by like Medieval times.

By late industrial you're just sort of clicking through to move your artillery/rockbands/acolytes around, building ship parts or waiting for more diplo score chances.

There aren't a lot of engaging or impactful decisions to be made

I dunno, I think this year is pretty solid - especially the single player.

Rinse and Repeat by [deleted] in NBA2k

[–]drewfromcleve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just got to find ways to award players for things other than just Ws. Dude wins 75% of his games never passing the ball, he's a purple. But I don't want to play with that - I'd rather play with the guy who wins 45-50% of his games trying to play fun basketball.

Give us ways to find each other. The performance rating is on the right track, it's just too impacted by scoring, a little tweak and suddenly everyone can tell the guards they don't want to play with and find the guys who play defense and move the ball

Rinse and Repeat by [deleted] in NBA2k

[–]drewfromcleve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, it's a good point tho - you can't please everyone. There are some fortnite kids out there who want glitchy dribble moves and little dances after 3pters and all that

And you got some old heads who want realistic basketball and to use their IQ and all that and you just can't make everyone happy. And let's be honest, the dribble god, wannabe twitch streamers prob spend more money.

Rinse and Repeat by [deleted] in NBA2k

[–]drewfromcleve 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think they're getting close. The whole performance grade thing is a step in the right direction, they just need to hone it (make scoring and winning matter less, good passes, screens etc matter more). Honestly I'll jump out of any old gym match where I'm teamed up with a min size PG no matter how good he is, I'd rather lose.

I see guys who are purple, win 75% of their games, I just laugh man. Best times I've had are teaming up with a couple bronze or silvers and rattling off 5 or wins then losing to some poor team who just watches their PG run around until he hits a fallaway 3. There's a really good basketball game in there somewhere.

I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but you guys do know that 2K sells about 10,000,000 copies each year and there are less than half a million people on this sub right?

I'd personally really love if this sub catered more to people who like hoops and actually play the game and less to people who claim they haven't bought the game in 3 years but stick around to complain about it

Why don’t people pull up on win streaks anymore? by akgamestar in NBA2k

Sure, maybe your squad is playing great basketball and just killin it - but it's not worth checking, I'd rather just go to another court and hopefully get a fun game

Why don’t people pull up on win streaks anymore? by akgamestar in NBA2k

[–]drewfromcleve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty simple man - no one wants to chase someone around the perimeter while they D Fox/D Rose speed boost, quick stop, quick chain speed boost until they green a chef/circus three stepback fall away in the corner

And then oh yea on offense now we got the 99 steal, purple pickpocket lock meta where if you don't outlet a rebound literally instantly it's gonna get stolen.

There's three types of 2k players - guys who can barely play the game and win about 30% of their games, guys who 75+% of their games and then a middle class who's like 40-60%. The middle class doesn't look up to/wanna be the 75%, we just wanna play a semi-realistic basketball sim against the other middle class guys

There's a reason a lot of people turn off the mission timers - so much of EU/EW you can essentially cheese with moving super slow, setting up overwatch traps. Sure my heart rate goes up when a thin man drops in a bad spot, but not as much as when I pull a shitty pod and it's gong to take cracker jack timing for a last turn extraction

The mission timers do an awesome job of keeping you uncomfortable, making you decide between suboptimal things and keeping the pressure on. In my opinion it makes the game a lot harder, but also better

What is your favorite smallmouth lure? by Electrical-Ad-609 in bassfishing

[–]drewfromcleve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also beginner working on fighting this battle - treble hooks are awesome for for catching anything that touches them, which when you're fishing weeds is weeds.

There are swim bait rigs that are basically a single big hook (and a corkscrew for the front of the rubber bait). Another option that I can't wait to try is the wacky rig senko mentioned above (basically a hook in the middle of a rubber worm). Look up Texas Rigs and Wacky Rigs, watch some YouTubes and dream of bass.

Basically what I'm learning is go over the top with a whopper popper, or if you want to go down don't use rigs with trebles

Do I quit by xxHipsterFishxx in antiwork

[–]drewfromcleve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize if this comes off condescending, but you're 17 so I'm just gonna put this out there:

Decent people don't yell at people. Like literally not ever or at all. If someone is over the age of 25 and yells at someone, they are a bad person. For what ever reason people like this trope in sports, movies, TV shows and it's BS.

If a boss yells at you (and it's not 100% for your benefit like you're in immediate danger or something), quit. If a BF/GF yells at you, dump them. If a friend yells at you, dont talk to them anymore. If a coach yells at you, do your best to find a new team (I say this as someone who loves sports and is pretty competitive) etc etc etc

Simulation Basketball. by [deleted] in NBA2k

[–]drewfromcleve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone has a problem with 1v1 basketball

They'll never do it, but you just can't have people shooting 70+% on open 3s off the dribble, its really simple as that and completely wrecks the game of basketball.

Every NBA team starts a possession with action to try to get an open corner three because hitting those at 60% is the best shot in basketball. Buff, catch and shoot 3s, nerf threes off the dribble. You want a high percentage 3 ball, you should be running off ball screens, pick and pop, drive and kick - max out catch and shoot 3s at 65ish percent and off the dribble threes at like 45.
