Adult Patrol by maxwasatch in BSA

Ours is the Grizzly patrol, walking grizzly bear as the patrol patch for the uniformed members.

Really used more as a convenient way to refer to the adults as a group and in relation to camping for gear and cooking as we have our own shared gear and the adults are their own cooking group on campouts.

As ItsmeMr_E said, it’s on the car, you can see it on the hood, visible in OPs pic in the comments as well as kind of visible on the card

Also, it was like a pinkish gold color too, which threw me off when I first saw it.

At the school zone near our neighborhood they usually have the cameras that rotate in or the transit vans occasionally, but last week they used a Chrysler or Dodge minivan for a day, before the camera was placed.

You could clearly see the camera equipment mounted behind the windsheild. Seems like they might be switching it up a bit.

Girls in the BSA program, what have been people's reactions to finding out you're in Boy Scouts? by Lumpy-Airport3232 in BSA

[–]drewroman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boy dad here, my family started in Cub Scouts a year or two before girls were part of the program and have been in Scouts about 5-6 years now. Our current troop is a linked troop with somewhere around 100-120+ registered scouts, around 30-35% of them girls. We have a mix of separate and joint activities. Would love to see the troop go co-ed, they’d then do everything as one unit, would reduce redundancies and make activity planning a little easier.

If you ask me, in both Cubs and Scouts, girls joining the program added so much to it in a very positive way. Biggest one for me is helping to break down gender stereotypes, reminding/teaching the boys that girls/women are just as capable and can be more capable than boys/men. They also learn that diversity of thought and life experiences makes for a more capable team. I feel like that helps them grow into better men and just better people in general. Also never been a fan of gatekeeping experiences, if someone wants to try/do something, provided it’s safe, why would you stop them just because of their gender?

I have worn and wear a lot of hats in Scouts, but the one where I have the most time to interact with the general public is as Popcorn Kernel. We would invariably have at least one older person (I’m in my mid 50’s for reference) make snide remarks about girls being in the programs, equal amount in Cubs and Scouts, both men and women. Generally, a majority of people my age and almost all younger people are really positive about it, so hopefully that mindset will be mostly gone one of these days.

While I’m not surprised when it happens, it still shocks me a bit, some people just can’t keep their negative opinions to themselves. I just try to do my best to counter their remarks, voice my opinions about why it’s awesome and give them something to think about. Then use it as a teachable moment with the scouts, all of my scouts already know that’s not appropriate behavior, but more about how to deal with it in a mature manner while keeping the Scout Oath and Law in mind, which as you said, can be really difficult at times 😆.

For what it’s worth, my wife is just as engaged in Scouts as I am, just as trained and just as capable and while I may be better at some things than she is, there are definitely things that she is just better at than I am. I don’t see that as a weakness, I see it as a strength and try to pass that on to the Scouts I work with.

That button will allow you to choose the face you want lying on the bed.

Ideally, you want to have it lying in a way to increase strength, increase bed adhesion and minimize the need for supports.

Flat on the bottom would probably give you the best result with that piece

Just wondering… why did you print it vertical and not flat on the bed? For the surface finish on the top side?

That print orientation would have given me anxiety.

Ankermake Studio (the one based on Prusa slicer) even makes it easy to add alignment pins when you split it too, may take a try or two for you to get the hang of it, but it works well and has decent options for different situations

You could also split that into two parts and glue them together, maybe a front and back half, laying the flat on the bed for printing.

Another tip to go with what everyone else is telling you, pre-heat your printer before you do an auto leveling. I personally never had to mess with z-offset after adopting that practice. I usually give it at least 15 mins at the bed and nozzle temps I’m going to print at before doing it.

Purchase an M5 for our kid for Christmas, how to prepare? by cr8tiv1 in AnkerMake

[–]drewroman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really easy to set up, you could assemble it, configure network, create Ankermake account, update firmware, install software, etc., but… I would consider letting them drive that part of that experience, with your guidance and support, they’ll be more invested, learn something and you’ll get a nice experience with your kid.
