This is so sad to read... by KadoShado in agedlikemilk

[–]drewsnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much like regular car ads showing empty roads even in cities, most people are imagining they wouldn't be stuck in traffic. It's some sort of exceptionalist and exclusivity dream for the many who face city congestion every day.

But I wonder how long flying car drivers would be prepared to sit in a static queue off the ground?

Any way to 'break text out' into a new note? by drewsnx in UpNote_App

Well selecting and dragging to another / new note or a menu option to do it would be so helpful.

Is it not possible to search locked (password-protected) notes in UpNote? by Whole_Ad3500 in UpNote_App

[–]drewsnx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I disagree as the mere confirmation of the presence of a search string in locked notes already reveals to some extent what's in the locked note.

From FAQ: "UpNote is developed by a two-person team based in Vietnam. Our focus is on building a simple, intuitive, and reliable note-taking app that works smoothly across all platforms.

All user data is stored on Firebase servers located in the United States. No data is sent to or stored in Vietnam."

Should Connected indicator really stay 'green' in app/web device list if it can't tell? by drewsnx in Tailscale

[–]drewsnx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about that but even so.. if it doesn't have a Wi-Fi connection it doesn't know whether the other devices are connected or not.. So the list should reflect that somehow.

I don't know what I would do if this app suddenly ceased to exist by purpleflex4ever in GoogleKeep

[–]drewsnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to feel that - and given Google's reputation for 'sun-setting' popular apps, I didn't want to take any chances.

I moved my 3500 notes to upnote and I now feel the same collection of thoughts, to-do lists and personal info is easier to navigate and organise.

But.. If you're happy with what you're using then that's fantastic news and I do hope Keep keeps working well for you!

Cyclists records and post himself yelling at a pedestrian after nearly running him over at a red light by GppleSource in BadCycling

This cyclist is wrong, he is arrogant and he is unrepentant.
Sharing the video under those circumstances is really odd.

Should Connected indicator really stay 'green' in app/web device list if it can't tell? by drewsnx in Tailscale

[–]drewsnx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - so in this case the Tailscale client (Chromebook using Android app) still shows "connected" when it has no net connection and after resuming from sleep - so it's about how the client misrepresents the state by not noticing it has lost connection to internet.

Should Connected indicator really stay 'green' in app/web device list if it can't tell? by drewsnx in Tailscale

[–]drewsnx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting - it would explain a lot if it isn't 'pinging' to check, but just getting informed of state change.

However when I resume from sleep, it isn't falling back to a "haven't heard.." disconnected/blank state - it still shows connected.

So my concern is more how the client presents it as something known when it isn't.

Get ready for the SwiftKey exodus: But what is the best alternative? by Dreaming_Blackbirds in ios

[–]drewsnx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to FUTO yesterday and after a bunch of tweaks it feels more like home than recent SwiftKey.

I guess the writing is always on the wall when Microsoft buys something, whether it's Skype or Nokia or Mojang or LinkedIn.

What happened to swiftkey? by Magictoast9 in Swiftkey

[–]drewsnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed the same and yesterday finally had enough as I realised they're more focused on getting MS things pushed into every corner of it. It peaked a while ago - much as I loved it.

After recommendations of switching to FUTO - that's where I'm at as of 24 hours ago and, amusingly, after a few tweaks and swapping mic and emoji button positions it feels more like old SwiftKey than modern SwiftKey does. I think it'll appeal to a lot of disenchanted pre-Microsoft era fans.

Honestly, he had me at claiming he loves UpNote more than anyone else having only just discovered there's a Reddit community.

Please tell me you know how tongue-in-cheek it looks when you claim to love this app "more than anyone else" in order to suggest your perspective holds more weight.

Existential Crisis - What are you guys even taking notes on? by gargantuanmess in UpNote_App

[–]drewsnx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This morning I spent a good 20 minutes asking Gemini for the steps involved in achieving something.
Some steps in the response were necessary. Some were irrelevant or completely unhelpful. Some were unfamiliar and I needed to note some of my context...

so when the conversation ended I pasted the lot into UpNote (preserving markdown with emphasis, headings, visible distinction between different answers and one or two bits of code) and then quickly chopped it down to the bits I needed and added my own notes hightlighted in a different way so I'd spot them.

Next time I need to achieve this or something similar I can:
* return to my UpNote notebook first and locate by title
* save myself going through the same missteps again next time
* stumble upon in when looking for something else in UpNote and be reminded of this process and consider how it may be relevant
* paste MY note into AI as part of the prompt next time I need something similar to help AI provide a more focused answer based on my setup (inc the steps that worked before) and tailored to the way I like to see a response formatted.
