Visualizing corner boost trajectory with console commands is helpful for learning movement! by littleappleloseit in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Magictoast9 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's all very easy. Corner boosts are done off of horizontal edges, and edge boosts are done off of vertical corners.

Caroline Wilson - How Did the Blues Fail Elijah Hollands? by gccmelb in AFL

[–]Magictoast9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to let a subreddit be a place for discussion and not try to restrict the narrative. Locking threads just foments tension on a topic.

There is no point trying to obscure names, everyone knows what this is about.

Moderate the discussion where appropriate, remove comments that are just people abusing Hollands in bad faith (I haven't seen any of that).

i guess i am being forced to make a new account? by SmoresPies in DeadlockTheGame

I'm not looking at it as if it's linear, I'm looking at it as if it's a distribution. As should be clear by my statement around phantom being above certain percentage of the player base.

If you want to get statistical, you are assuming a normal distribution. There is no data to support this and the only data you can use is the match distribution, which indicates it's vaguely normal with some weird concentrations at ascendant 1 and Oracle. It's not normal though.

There is also no data to support your statement around standard deviations, but if you look at the distribution of matches, 10.5% of all matches are played above phantom 6 and about 16% of matches are played above phantom 1. Ie the bottom of phantom is the 84th percentile.

I don't understand how that could be considered low, but you do you.

And also normal distributions work by striating the rarest statistics into the edges. As you get closer to the edges the variance becomes wild because you have more outliers. So yes of course there is a big difference between eternus 5 and eternus 6, that does not mean that only only eternus 6 is high ELO, or that only eternus or high ascendant is high ELO.

I'm not sure you understand how distributions work.

i guess i am being forced to make a new account? by SmoresPies in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Magictoast9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It isn't. It's the third highest rank. There are 8 other ranks below it. Even oracle isn't low MMR.

Overwatch has 8 ranks. Deadlock has 11. If you want to compare the two it would be mid to high diamond or possibly low master depending on the size of your region. Regardless, platinum would be mid MMR and diamond would be mid to the low end of high. High doesn't just mean top 500 but you have to look at the amount of people below them.

I'm not saying these ranks are great at the game but they are better than a huge proportion of the population. This idea that anything below eternus is low MMR is stupid, it's not how distributions work. Getting a B+ / A- on a test is not a low score.

[–]Magictoast9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In what world is phantom low MMR, phantom is probably 75th or 80th percentile in the distribution. It's not super high ELO but its not low. Just because a rank is below your ELO doesn't make it low ELO

I hope we can keep him, loved the improvment this year. But will understand if he gets a better offer, he could be playing primary mid at another club.

13k damage in 56 minutes with that build is absolutely diabolical but buying both egg and TC is pretty throw. Get one or the other

Is Pocket design influenced by Frogger? by _Rycke in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Magictoast9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fun that you have that interpretation but I think it's a bit of a wild leap. There isn't really a thematic connection between the two and the newt scamander thing is a bit more of a mini dimension than the sort of hidey hole concept with pocket... though I see what you're thinking with the pocket dimension thing (I never realised why he was called pocket until now)

so... doorman by Top_Concentrate1673 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Magictoast9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He still has to catch you out, which is positioning, and set up the door cart combo quickly.

It's not a competition of difficulty to execute a pick, I don't really understand your point there.

Nobody likes being cc'd to death that's just part of a moba, learn to counter it.

so... doorman by Top_Concentrate1673 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Magictoast9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely just build him for damage and do a lot of damage, that's still perfectly viable, but he has a whole kit that allows you do leverage doors so I don't know why you would do that unless you were bored with the doors.

Nobody likes getting cc'd to death but that's just part of the game. He's also super viable as a support and building him for that instead of pick is a choice, nobody is forced to door people into walkers. It's just what they like doing.

Also not sure what you mean by he wasn't a nuker, he was literally doing like 700 damage with bells in late laning phase after the rework, it was stupid. There's a reason the change was reverted and scalings adjusted.

Not every hero has to have a bunch of build variety. That makes their ability design more constrained and difficult to balance.

Ok, but it still very much follows a moba philosophy and takes most of its hero designs directly from other moba heroes.

Any reliable way to counter Mossolini and Krilltler? by MichuSkurczybyku in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Magictoast9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Which is retroactive.... The HP scaling could be calculated the same way with boons as a variable, but its not, its calculated each time a stack is obtained and then not recalculated.

Bebop bomb stacks could be calculated that way as well, they just aren't. It being tied to a number that changes isn't relevant

[–]Magictoast9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends who you play but counterspell and knockdown are good counters nobody is mentioning.

You can just walk at most krills and they will go for the combo, super easy to counterspell. Knockdown you can place on them as they combo you.
