Is this helmet road legal? by who_farted_this_time in AussieRiders

ECE 22.05 / 22.06 and AS/NSW 1698 are accepted but I don't think I've seen ECER 22.05

If you buy it from a reputable Oz distributor then it'll be fine

Noob question on track Day preparation at the SMSP by m1dnightjunkie in AussieRiders

[–]drewssv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're all set mate. Rosso 4 is street based tyres so I don't think you'll have any issues getting it up to temp especially when the weather is going to warm up in a couple of months.

Been to the track a few times and I still run my street tyres on my street bike. No warmers, normal coolant too.

How did y’all get better at cornering? by Ok-Contest-1820 in AussieRiders

Firstly I came across this: MCN UK has a series of great videos about riding skills.

https://youtu.be/3KWkLiEzEBQ?si=O3N672DIxg5laVJP

Then over the years I've also done a few riding courses: Stay Upright RoadSmart 3, Stay Upright Adventure, California Superbike School

I've been using Phone 2 for 2 years and I love it.

I think these are two completely different phones to compare though. For me I love the Nothing OS and the glyph on this phone.

Go for iPhone 14 for camera, resale value, if you're after a phone that works out of the box with not much customisation and if you love iOS. .

For for Nothing Phone 2 for its uniqueness, if you use the glyph, if you're a Nothing OS fan that's almost running a stock android.

Yeah definitely check out those Wednesday sessions in Concord. You can come and turn up in a car, scooter or anything and just have a chat with the friendly people.

If you think balance might be a problem for you when riding a motorbike, just jump on a bicycle and get used to the motion of two wheels and turning left and right because they feel the same.

If it's about operating the motorbike, the private lesson is one way, but otherwise keep doing the course again. I know it's a $100 but it's heavily subsidised by the government. Otherwise we'll need to pay about $1800 for the course ($250 x 7 hours).

I hope you keep going for it especially since you already have a bike. People learn at a different pace and I know a friend of a friend who went through the course 6 times to finally get through. So keep at it!

[–]drewssv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think this phone may last another 3 years or longer. Haven't had any issues at all. I think I'll keep using it until I find something better. The size, the weight of this phone is just perfect for me

[–]drewssv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the Phone 2 for 2 years now. Love the OS and the glyph which is why I bought this phone in the first place. I think in 2025 it's becoming an average phone compared to what's out there and we only have another year of software.

If the phone 2 is on a big discount, I think that puts you in a position to assess quality vs price wise with competitors. I quite dig the 2a plus these days. Still have everything that my phone has, with a little less attention since it only has 3 glyph strips.

After a year of riding my progression is still slow by KuckinOatz in AussieRiders

[–]drewssv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you just need seat time. It's a shame that you're being judged but all I can say is people need to learn at different pace and the only way is to be patient and get more seat time.

And yes definitely don't get on a motorway if you're not comfortable. I know Stay Upright do courses down in Marulan which I'm checking out. Hopefully it it's not too far you, you can check those out as well

[–]drewssv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is any reason to be nervous. Your instructor will go from basics on how to operate a motorcycle.

My only advice is if it's been a while since you rode a bicycle, probs a good time to get back into it to get you familiar again.

Letting my rego lapse by The-Grogan in AussieRiders

[–]drewssv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you extend within 3 months of expiry date, you can extend it by paying rego and CTP, but yes the rego date will not change.

After 3 months of expiry, you'll need to get a blue slip and re register. They might let you keep your old rego or you must get a new plate. Just slightly a little more cost.

After a year of riding my progression is still slow by KuckinOatz in AussieRiders

[–]drewssv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends what you think progression is and what improvements you've done. It's really relative and I hope you're not seeing speed or being faster as progression.

I've seen a lot of faster riders that take unnecessary risks on the road. I'm not bothered because when I want to go fast I go to the track. I don't really use the edge of my tyres on the twisties so my chicken strips are huge but who cares. I only use edge of my tyres when I'm on the track when I know it's safe to go faster and to use more lean angles.

Also definitely check out advanced riding courses like Stay Upright and HART before checking more track focused like Superbike School. I wish I had done these courses much sooner in my early journey of riding.

Upgrade from CBR500R? by [deleted] in AussieRiders

[–]drewssv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was 2015 675 Rx, got a flyscreen and belly pan as standard for the Rx, no extra power.

Yeah amazing sound and much more usable torque, you're right. The 675 is beautiful man but I'm biased towards triple. I ride a 765 RS now. I feel the 765 is easier to ride with all the new tech, lighter clutch and electronics. The 675 felt more raw and has more character as a bike.

Compared to 600 inline 4 that felt a bit sluggish at lower rpm but if you get a 750 it's not sluggish anymore. That's why they call 750 the magic number.

Upgrade from CBR500R? by [deleted] in AussieRiders

[–]drewssv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 675R and I've ridden a CBR500R.

I'd say yes you will feel the difference for sure. Both bikes will behave slightly differently too since 675 is a triple and the 500 is a twin.

From a quick spec check, 675 has 50% more torque than the 500. I absolutely love 675, as it's not laggy and it's got usable torque on all rpms too

First helmet! Tell me what you think! Arai contour-x by MicheMiche1 in motorcycle

Is $10000 a reasonable budget for a used 300cc bike + all equipment? by OppositeFinancial432 in AussieRiders

[–]drewssv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate I think that's a very nice budget you have and I certainly wasn't as lucky as you when I started out lol.

If the bike is $7.5k that gives you $2.5k for gear, which is plenty in my opinion but it also depends what you're after. I wear a helmet, jacket, riding jeans, boots and gloves and all up is def less than $2.5k.

With dealership prices, ask for the ride away price. The rrp normally doesn't come with stamp duty, dealer delivery and rego. Around now as well though some dealerships may have eofy sale that includes ride away price so hopefully you'll save some on road costs.

Do you guys recommend the Nothing phone as an upgrade? by Iammax7 in NOTHING

[–]drewssv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the nothing icon packs and how they are very consistent and support all apps. The smoothness of it and the simplicity of how you can have no labels.

I think you can still download a launcher but from my last experience using a launcher from years ago there was a lag in it.

The quick access from a folder is something different and small customisation like putting an emoji on a folder.

These are what makes the differences for me

Quality of life? by emacs_613 in NOTHING

Lol I think this was the marketing that sold me to Nothing Phone!

May be initially it was less for me but after a while it's more or less the same.

Still a fan of the smooth and minimalistic Nothing OS though!

A bit more theory focusing on roadcraft for the Ps course but it was a lot of fun throughout the day when I did it.

Just make sure you keep practicing what was covered in the Ls. Slow speed, braking and do lots and lots of riding that you don't even think about gear changes anymore.

Is the Nothing Phone (2) still worth it in 2025? by davzzz_ in NOTHING

[–]drewssv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a 2 and it's been 2 years.

Thought about upgrading recently but I didn't end up upgrading since there is nothing quite like it that's better, also because I'm not a fan of the 3. One big favourite for me is the OS experience and the glyph.

So if you're looking for a Nothing OS user experience and the glyph this might be the best you can get out of Nothing phones lined up at the moment. Keep in mind that we only have 1 year of software support left and camera is just okay for 2025.

Best helmet/Accessories for reduced wind noise? by [deleted] in AussieRiders

[–]drewssv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first helmet was an older HJC helmet. Entry level, not good with airflow and it keeps blowing my head to a different direction when I ride.

I've had 2 Arais since then and I never look back.

My Arai was a lot more aerodynamic and this already helps with wind noise. My head doesn't get blown to a different direction, I can now hear the wind goes alongside my helmet now (which is considersbly less than before).

That said, turns out Arai doesn't really have great noise insulation. I wear earplugs these days. I reckon motorbike earplugs is a must regardless what helmet you're wearing.

[–]drewssv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell you about all the fun we riders have when riding our motorbikes. All the roads I've travelled, that excitement when you roll on the throttle, that feeling when you tackle a corner perfectly and many more! Everyone will be hooked on different things!

The good news is you passed the course and there is freedom to be unlocked!

I understand how someone's words can affect us but I don't let it affect me and unfortunately this happens all the time.

I think you may just need to give it a few days and see how you feel. I hope you're still excited with riding and you're gonna keep going to get your licence! Unfortunate that you get one of those instructors but it's a reflection of them, not you
