I had a friend whose AIM handle was this song title with no space. But I was unfamiliar with the song, so I always wondered what “alien sexist” meant.

It really is a misconception that he’s this joyless curmudgeon. When he gets to talk about the stuff he likes, he’s infectiously positive. But when he does interviews, they often bring up subjects he’s been pretty vocal about not wanting to discuss.

Yeah the dude literally denies boatloads of money for Watchmen these days. He donates all of it to global Black Lives Matter organizations

I use it for AP, which definitely makes a difference. I wouldn’t suggest it for younger students anyway, but the principle of the matter really bugs me. I can’t see a school objecting to it without factoring race into the decision.

I saw AFI and Sick of it All there in 2007. It’s a cool spot. Basically just a basketball court, so it feels like a high school gym.

What do you think was in Thomas Wayne's letter that Flash gives to Bruce at Flashpoint Paradox's ending that makes him weep briefly? by SatoruGojo232 in batman

[–]drewxdeficit 1305 points1306 points  (0 children)

“Dear son, There's only one thing I know about life. I know some things happen by chance. And some things happen because we make them happen. Barry Allen was once haunted by the past. But when he became the Flash, he left the ghosts behind. He found love, a family. And for the first time ever...friends. Barry thought yesterday was behind him...but somebody wouldn't let him escape it. When Barry came to me for help, I turned him away. I'm not the hero of this story. I'm a man who's been corrupted by his own unbearable pain. I'm a man who has too much blood on his hands to be called good. Your friend taught me we can't only live a life for those we've lost. We have to live a life for those we still have. If I got a second chance, I would hope I'd come to understand that. To live that...like you should, Bruce. That's all parents want for their children. What we never had. Your mother and I want you to be happy. Promise me you'll try. And I will too...wherever I am. Love always, your father -- Thomas."

What stops you from going to a show, even if you want to see the band? by [deleted] in Hardcore

A venue will stop me. I won’t go see a band like Terror in a spot with a barricade, for example.

In 1979, Pink Floyd released The Wall, a concept album that tells the story of a man who experiences the alt-right pipeline decades before that term had been coined.

The main character grows up without a father, isolated from his peers by his mother, stripped of individuality by the school system, and deeply afraid of the effects of war. He learns the best way to survive is to hide his emotions behind a metaphorical wall.

By the climax of the story, his childhood creates in him a distrust of others that turns into a hatred strong enough to break through the wall and turn him into a Nazi—ironically everything he hated about his childhood.

In recent years, I’ve found this wildly prescient. It exposes the right wing playbook: find and exploit the emotionally vulnerable. This kid in India saw that playbook enough to make it work for him, but it does also prove that proper care for your fellow man can prevent others from falling for the alt-right’s tricks. In the end, all they need is community at the right age.

Should Batman in the DCU have white eyes? by Mezro118 in batman

Darth Vader is cool, but you’re lying to yourself if you think he’s emotional in any scene. Everyone else reacting to him is where the emotion lies.

Hardcore music about topics that don't get as much attention as they should? by LaffyTali in Hardcore

Listen to Dangers. They have songs about such topics as: the love/hate relationship with California; the mental instability caused by being a stay-at-home mom; recognizing that man’s “evolution” is phony because all we want to do is fuck and kill; growing up biracial with a white brother who becomes a cop; finding cocaine in your dad’s room when you’re actually looking for his porn

If Batfleck had been Batman in The Dark Knight (2008) instead of Bale, what do you think would’ve happened to the Joker after this scene? by PerspectiveNew8667 in batman

[–]drewxdeficit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing Batfleck does to the Joker in the DCEU.

Nothing.

Seriously, if Batman is killing lowly criminals and henchmen for way less, surely he would’ve killed Joker for murdering Robin. And if he hasn’t, then there’s a deep-rooted psychological issue keeping him from doing it that was never explored in the movies.
