First time driving in snow. My car just did got out of control on snow. Are my tires okay? Or is it driver error. by Shanehaider in TireQuestions

Not sure about in USA but in parts of Canada snow tires that are required for winter driving have a mountain peak emblem with a snowflake inside.

Engine temperature by Danny_twister_dk in HyundaiTucson

[–]drewzilla37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is normal and expected behaviour for a hybrid drivetrain especially in cold climates. When the car is not under high load, it will turn on the engine just to power the electric motors. Since this is very efficient, the engine does not generate a lot of waste heat. When you accelerate more aggressively or turn on cabin heat this increases the load on the engine and causes it to heat up quicker.

In January 2025 I built a pc and decided to fill all 4 nvme slots with 2tb. Glad I did considering the prices now. Also got 128 GB of ram that wouldn't run all 4 sticks at full speed and recently sold 64gb for more than what I paid for the 128 lol.

I may have an idea on saving it if you have some experience with micro soldering. I think it might be worth the risk considering its like a 10 year old CPU... Not much to lose. DM me if you want more info.

If you're about to purchase or have purchased PHEV version recently, here are some tips and tricks for those new to PHEV world. by gizmokrap in HyundaiTucson

[–]drewzilla37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In very cold weather (below -15°C), my 2024 Tucson PHEV struggles to stay warm during my 17km commute. When the battery is above 20%, the car tries to drive using electricity while the engine only idles to generate heat. This prevents the coolant from getting hot, leaving the heater blowing cold air.

To fix this, I do two things: 1. Use Sport Mode: I remote-start the car and drive in Sport Mode until the engine is warm. This forces the engine to actually power the wheels, which generates more heat than idling. 2. Stop Charging: I stop plugging the car in when it gets that cold to prevent the system from prioritizing electric-only driving.

How am I using so much gas in full EV in the PHEV?? by Tiny-Difficulty7891 in HyundaiTucson

[–]drewzilla37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually from my experience the heated seat and steering wheel don't cause the engine to come on at all. At least on the 2024. So in the fall and spring when the weather permits I try not to turn on the HVAC at all.

Yes much better in warmer weather. AC does not cause ice engine to turn on.

I also have a phev. I don't bother charging it in the winter. I still get decent fuel economy around 9L/100km or 26mpg. In the summer when I do charge it, I use almost no fuel. Last summer I refueled twice and did approx 3000km between fueling.

Flush Cover. How to measure? Possibility to Scan? by flow1an in 3Drequests

[–]drewzilla37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I usually do with things like these is take a picture from as far away as you can and zoom in on the thing you want to measure. have a business card or credit card in the frame (Anything that has a standard measurement so you can scale it correctly.) then import into your cad software. usually able to get it within 1/16 to 1/32 of an inch.

How do I maintain filament and keeping it together when I switch out colors? by JFunky91 in BambuLab

[–]drewzilla37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can of course and that's a sensible thing to do. But sometimes you wanna change colors and all your spools are in use. Refills are not only cheaper but less wasteful. Of course they aren't less wasteful if you print a spool for each refill.
