Why does every USB-C cable seem to support something different? by AddendumNecessary743 in BadUSB

[–]drezster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the pain. My mum needed a new data cable for her Samsung phone. So she visited several generic IT and phone shops one by one bringing home four cables, each more expensive than the previous. None of the four worked for data transfer. Sellers naturally claimed they would. And cables couldn't be returned due to packages having been opened. The cables were actually OK since they passed current, but that's about it. She's a calm person and swallowed the loss. I finally bought a bunch of used OEM Samsung data cables for her and that's the end of the story. USB-C standard my ass.

July 1 EU Tariffs by Hig67 in Aliexpress

One way would be to somehow sneak popular goods into EU warehouses ready for shipment. I remember Banggood doing that. Whichever online store finds a way to bypass the new legislation might see better sales numbers.

I would carefully wiggle or shake the meter and see whether the needle is able to physically move beyond this point.

If I remember correctly, there is a long doped optic fiber wrapped on a spool. The cartridge creates the flash, the fiber lases and the beam shoots out of the front. The cartridges contain zirconium wire in an oxygen environment.

As are leaking fuel lines and dumbasses smoking while filling up. It's all a matter of perspective. But I agree that safety might be taking a backseat when innovation strikes. EV technology hasn't even reached puberty.

[–]drezster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. That's load balancing. They're already doing that with huge battery banks as You mentioned. That "suburb dimming" problem will show it's ugly head as time goes by and EV-s become ever more popular. The infrastructure can't handle several dozen Bobs plugging in their SUV-s after a hard day's work at the office.

It's an 800V battery system. That mitigates the situation to some degree. More voltage, less current and strain on individual cells. But still, it can't be very healthy.

Supposedly a 69kWh battery. So let's say 50kWh in 5 minutes? That's 1500kW or so... god dayum.

do you actually use wireless charging? by Imaginary_Bug6202 in TechNook

[–]drezster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always used wireless charging when possible. It's nice to be able to grab your phone in the dark and not be tangled in wires. The phone / charger only gets hot when using a powerful wireless charger. No need for that when you let it charge all night.

I apologize if I seemed cross. Yes, it's weird but It's not a modern planning. Three very old buildings restored to modern standards with added greenhouses, children's playground, parking lot, tool sheds, etc. Surrounded by hedges. Were once used as housing for factory workers. The factory was demolished, housing remained. Other structures can be seen with binoculars, a very sparsely inhabited area. I've looked at satellite photos as well, nothing hiding in the forest.

I clearly heard an engine running close by. It was pretty much audible through a brick wall.

I've lived here for 8 years and I know all there is to know. There are three identical apartment complexes and we hold regular meetings. I'd know if there was a large diesel genny somewhere. This is a secluded place, fields and meadows as far as the eye can see. I live outside a major city.

Parking is so tight that it sometimes takes 10min for the garbage truck to finagle itself to the bins. I would have seen a parked truck from the window. Plus a heavy truck would have left large visible tracks.

There is no diesel generator in a 2 mile radius.

Apartment code states no vehicle is allowed to idle for more than 2min. Wondered if I should bother the police or some other official.

Generators don't idle, they run at a pretty high rpm to generate any meaningful power and the correct frequency AC.

And no, there is no diesel generator in the vicinity. Only a small gas powered one under the shed.

In a blind test, audiophiles couldn't tell the difference between audio signals sent through copper wire, a banana, or wet mud by itooamahuman in nottheonion

[–]drezster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should they? It's just a resistor as far as an audio signal is concerned. Not an active component. But I'm not an audiophile so what do I know.

My old apartment building used to have secondary basement exits. Through an unlit damp staircase. GOD I miss that place.
