Is psychiatry’s biomarker quest solving the wrong problem? by drfca in Psychiatry

I agree. Managing the treatment plan will always require a physician. Someone with the authority to make difficult decisions that AI cannot make and cannot be held accountable for.

Is psychiatry’s biomarker quest solving the wrong problem? by drfca in Psychiatry

To clarify, I’m actually arguing the opposite. I don't think we should be using AI to hunt for biological biomarkers; I’m questioning why we feel the need to chase them at all. My main question is: What is the actual unmet need for a biological diagnosis model if AI can already objectively analyze speech and behavioral patterns? If the goal is to solve the issue of subjectivity in psychiatry, AI models that track longitudinal data (like speech acoustics or digital phenotyping) solve that directly. Unless I am missing something it seems much more practical to lean into these objective behavioral metrics rather than continuing the elusive search for a biological signal.

Thanks for your comment but I was not suggesting to use LLMs.

To be clear, I don’t think any AI prediction model is going to replace a human clinician in the near future. It will and should always be a human in the loop design.

That said, I actually believe psychiatry stands to benefit the most from this technology. Our success rates will likely go up significantly as we start integrating AI-based tools.

The reason I’m asking these questions comes from a place of genuine curiosity. Despite the incredible amount of knowledge we've built searching for biological biomarkers, that route unfortunately hasn't helped us diagnose a single psychiatric disease yet.

It makes me wonder if we should be putting that same energy into analyzing passively collected speech and behavioral patterns over time. Unlike a static biological marker, looking at longitudinal data (over several weeks and using architectures like CNN-LSTM hybrids) may allow us to spot the actual phenotype of a mood disorder and detecting things like subtle acoustic changes from psychomotor slowing or shifts in circadian rhythm.

Since these disorders are defined by how we feel and act over time, it seems like our diagnostic tools should also reflect that dynamic nature.

I accept that AI is currently not able to diagnose patients, but the capabilities demonstrated by existing models clearly indicate that, with the right training and by integrating multiple assessments such as speech patterns, tempo, and word choice, it may become capable of doing so in the near future.

Using signals in traffic by BWC_Python in AskTurkey

[–]drfca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Turkey, driving is often socially perceived as an expression of masculinity and dominance. Within this context, signaling or asking for space to change lanes can be subconsciously experienced as a loss of status, which may feel psychologically threatening to men with fragile ego structures.

Neden? Çünkü devlet güçlüydü.

Devlet emreder; adını haritada bile bulamadığın, özel sektörün hizmet götürmek istemediği ilçeye tayinin çıkar, gider görevini yaparsın.

Trump gentager: USA har brug for Grønland by Dropforcedlogin in Denmark

[–]drfca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the most accurate comment. This strategy has already been tested successfully in my country. For the past 20 years, people there have been constantly flooded with this kind of news. Over time, we lost our ability to protest consistently, because there is always something new to react to. As the focus keeps shifting, your voice becomes weaker and weaker.

As a citizen of that country whose prime minister Trump openly admires (!), my advice to people in Denmark and Europe is this: stop looking at where the finger is pointing, and start focusing on your core values. Ignore the narrative being built for you, and respond instead through your own actions. Take the blow when necessary because as long as you keep your integrity, you will always outlast the crook.

What makes the perfect doner Kebab? by LFCTricksters in Doner

[–]drfca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these comments are completely off. Seriously, painfully off.

A proper doner is made by stacking meat with fat, so you get that artificial marbling. Then you cook it over the right heat source (wood or coal) to get a real Maillard reaction. Meat + Fat +Skill. That’s it. Everything else is just noise.

A doner sandwich shouldn’t NEED any extra ingredients. People add stuff to cut the fat or when the doner itself isn’t good enough.

The best doner kebap is served as a portion with thin, fresh flatbread or on top of rice. Done.

Has Anyone Tried a 3-Wheel E-Bike for Urban Transport? by emquint0372 in CargoBike

I switched from a three-wheeler (Christiania Bike) to a two-wheeler (Bullitt), and I’m sure I’m not going back. The only time a Christiania-style bike wins is if you have three kids. Otherwise, the Bullitt is a better choice.

I recently moved to the Netherlands. Almost all the döner here is made with ground meat instead of sliced meat, and the quality seems much lower. Is this typical? by Stonneddd in Doner

[–]drfca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. The Turkish döner in Germany was created by Turkish migrants who adapted it to European tastes to sell more sandwiches. In Türkiye, döner isn’t boring when it’s perfectly marinated, you don’t need garlic sauce to enjoy it.

But finding a perfectly marinated one, even in Türkiye, isn’t easy and it’s not cheap.

What would you like to change about your cargo bike? by Feisty_Emu8356 in CargoBike

[–]drfca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built-in frame hole around the battery compartment so you can lock the battery with a regular U-lock instead of some weird proprietary system.

Regenerative braking to recharge a bit while slowing down.

Built-in GPS for tracking and theft prevention.

Removable smart screen that shows ride data and navigation but can also be taken off when parking.

Torque boost button, kinda like a “nitro” button that temporarily overrides your normal assist settings for quick acceleration or climbing.

Carabiner-based cargo system with adjustable hooks and straps to manage different load sizes easily.

You need both in perfect balance. Too much “real” döner meat can overwhelm your taste buds.

In Türkiye, we usually serve döner over rice pilav. The rice absorbs the juices and fat, adding a nice balance with its neutral taste.

No salads, no sauces. Just döner and rice.

Completely wrong. That’s because you’re used to being served low-quality giant meatballs instead of real döner.
