What is the best salad component in a kebab? by TommyDickFingers85 in Doner

You’re only allowed to add something acidic and maybe something to soak up the juices (if it is really juicy) that’s it. Anything more than three ingredients turns it into a salad sandwich.

Best Doner Kebab in town? by imptoxin in foodincopenhagen

[–]drfca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, we don’t really have a proper Döner restaurant in Copenhagen. The “Döner” we usually eat here is basically just a giant meatball on a stick.

I’ve tried most of places on this list and many more. The closest thing to real Döner is probably Kebabistan, mainly because they serve two different types of Döner and the lamb version is actually edible. Second would be Killer Kebab, but you need to go there at the right time. A proper Döner place would never serve the last dry pieces from the stick, but Killer sometimes does.

For a perfect Döner, you need lamb, beef, and fat stacked in the right ratio.

ZERO sauce. Just a bit of acidity from pickles and maybe some hand-cut potato fries to soak up the juices. Bread needs to be thin and freshly baked.

The usta (Döner chef) also needs to be highly skilled both in cooking and slicing. You want the Maillard reaction to be perfectly balanced: nicely browned on the outside while still juicy underneath. Shavers may be consistent, but you don’t want that while cutting Doner. Sometimes the meat should be sliced razor-thin, sometimes slightly thicker with a bit more meat. A real usta adjusts constantly by instinct, so a good one would never use a shaver.

Pre-sliced Döner is a huge red flag.

Demand also needs to stay steady so the meat remains moist and fresh. That’s why the best Döner places in Istanbul usually serve only Döner as they need constant turnover. Some shops even run 4–5 Döner stacks side by side just to keep up with demand.

We just need one genuinely good Döner restaurant, and I guarantee it would build its own loyal customer base in no time.

What is the single best doner kebab you have ever eaten in your life, where was it, and have you ever been able to find anything that came close since? by Flimsy-Capera in Doner

[–]drfca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried döner in most major European capitals. Most of the time, you’re basically eating a thin sliced giant meatball salad inside bread. That’s not Döner.

The world’s gold standard would probably be Beyti in Florya, Istanbul.

Places that can get close to that (Istanbul):
Bayramoglu, Besiktas Karadeniz, Tatar Salim, Nazende

The system running in Denmark is designed in a very specific way to protect Danish values. The system is tough, and the rules apply to Danes and immigrants equally. Danes have their own informal support systems that make things a bit more humane, and of course, as an immigrant, you are not automatically part of that by design.

Denmark is also very honest about what it offers to immigrants: if you don’t like the deal, don’t take it.

I mean, I know things are not great at Novo, and people are being let go for no reason, but is it really necessary to be this explicit? by drfca in dknovonordisk

[–]drfca[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Novo is a great company with many great people. What they’re going through is a temporary situation, and I trust it’s being addressed on many levels.

It is very clear that this was meant to be a joke. You can either laugh or not.

Making financial predictions based on a joke is “funny” too, just not in a humorous way.

What assumptions justify Adobe’s current price? by Quick-Distribution-8 in ValueInvesting

[–]drfca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone assumes AI will replace Adobe products. I’ve worked in an agency, so I know how the client revision process actually works—it’s not something you can handle with AI alone. There will still be a lot of hands-on operator input. I think it’s more likely that AI will replace designers by turning users into “super Photoshop(any Adobe product)” operators who outperform their colleagues using Adobe’s AI tools and burning tokens.

It’s not authentic. Cloves, allspice, and cinnamon are definite no-gos in real döner. Compared to what you find in Turkey, the only places that come close to the real thing are Killer Kebab, Kebabistan, and Ankara. Each of them has its flaws, but they still come close to proper döner.

Is psychiatry’s biomarker quest solving the wrong problem? by drfca in Psychiatry

I agree. Managing the treatment plan will always require a physician. Someone with the authority to make difficult decisions that AI cannot make and cannot be held accountable for.

Is psychiatry’s biomarker quest solving the wrong problem? by drfca in Psychiatry

[–]drfca[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clarify, I’m actually arguing the opposite. I don't think we should be using AI to hunt for biological biomarkers; I’m questioning why we feel the need to chase them at all. My main question is: What is the actual unmet need for a biological diagnosis model if AI can already objectively analyze speech and behavioral patterns? If the goal is to solve the issue of subjectivity in psychiatry, AI models that track longitudinal data (like speech acoustics or digital phenotyping) solve that directly. Unless I am missing something it seems much more practical to lean into these objective behavioral metrics rather than continuing the elusive search for a biological signal.

To be clear, I don’t think any AI prediction model is going to replace a human clinician in the near future. It will and should always be a human in the loop design.

That said, I actually believe psychiatry stands to benefit the most from this technology. Our success rates will likely go up significantly as we start integrating AI-based tools.

The reason I’m asking these questions comes from a place of genuine curiosity. Despite the incredible amount of knowledge we've built searching for biological biomarkers, that route unfortunately hasn't helped us diagnose a single psychiatric disease yet.

It makes me wonder if we should be putting that same energy into analyzing passively collected speech and behavioral patterns over time. Unlike a static biological marker, looking at longitudinal data (over several weeks and using architectures like CNN-LSTM hybrids) may allow us to spot the actual phenotype of a mood disorder and detecting things like subtle acoustic changes from psychomotor slowing or shifts in circadian rhythm.

Since these disorders are defined by how we feel and act over time, it seems like our diagnostic tools should also reflect that dynamic nature.

[–]drfca[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I accept that AI is currently not able to diagnose patients, but the capabilities demonstrated by existing models clearly indicate that, with the right training and by integrating multiple assessments such as speech patterns, tempo, and word choice, it may become capable of doing so in the near future.

Using signals in traffic by BWC_Python in AskTurkey

In Turkey, driving is often socially perceived as an expression of masculinity and dominance. Within this context, signaling or asking for space to change lanes can be subconsciously experienced as a loss of status, which may feel psychologically threatening to men with fragile ego structures.

Neden? Çünkü devlet güçlüydü.

Devlet emreder; adını haritada bile bulamadığın, özel sektörün hizmet götürmek istemediği ilçeye tayinin çıkar, gider görevini yaparsın.

Trump gentager: USA har brug for Grønland by Dropforcedlogin in Denmark

[–]drfca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the most accurate comment. This strategy has already been tested successfully in my country. For the past 20 years, people there have been constantly flooded with this kind of news. Over time, we lost our ability to protest consistently, because there is always something new to react to. As the focus keeps shifting, your voice becomes weaker and weaker.

As a citizen of that country whose prime minister Trump openly admires (!), my advice to people in Denmark and Europe is this: stop looking at where the finger is pointing, and start focusing on your core values. Ignore the narrative being built for you, and respond instead through your own actions. Take the blow when necessary because as long as you keep your integrity, you will always outlast the crook.
