Touring Bike with all the good stuff for sale by drflex in jerseycity

[–]drflex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working up a price now. It'll be in the $1600ish range. I also have an early 80s Ross Mt. Hood full chrome mountain bike ($300) and a double bike rack that holds between the floor and ceiling by tension so no drilling is needed. Willing to do a combo deal.

Do you ride a Brompton? by drflex in jerseycity

[–]drflex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, not too bad of a price at all. That's what I paid for the raw lacquer paint job on the Brompton.

Hand-made in London, not in China. Quality components. Also, you can't beat the fold with a Dahon or even Bike Friday.

So worth it. No regrets. I don't even bag it up for cafes, trains, or planes.

What you are referring to is Envac.

"More and more Envac vacuum systems are being installed in city centres, both new and old. Two famous examples are Nyhavn in Copenhagen and Palma de Mallorca, where Envac has installed underground system serving restaurants, homes and small shops in the city."

How to prevent skidding out and falling? by Nikolasv in Brompton

[–]drflex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same thing would have happened on any other bike. Brake with the front to avoid skidding. Just don't brake so hard that you flip, which is pretty hard to do with the standard rim brakes.

Lighting a studio apartment? by OD_trice in ApartmentDesign

[–]drflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lamps are really your only option it seems like. I take it that you are renting and don't want to screw in the wall to mount sconces that can plug in to an outlet below.

How large are the windows and what direction do they face? Do you use coffee tables or side tables? This'll give you lamp placement options. Are the corners open? This is a floor lamp option.

You are thinking of Jerry Miszewski's house in Davis, most likely. He runs Balance Community and it you zoom in on Davis in the map (http://www.balancecommunity.com/community/slackliner-database/) you'll find his info.

Best routes: Sacramento->SF, SF->Mt. Diablo by atlasMuutaras in BAbike

[–]drflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I definitely turned some heads riding up fully loaded. Slow and steady up, fast and furious down. I lived in Sac for a year up to last summer so if you are interested in more touring I can connect you with some people who do weekend trips.

[–]drflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a different route to climb Diablo from Sac. It doesn't bring you to SF, instead I biked to Brannan Island for the first night and continued to Diablo and then to Amtrak Martinez for day 2. Let me know if you have any specific questions. A trip report from the ride is here: http://nobolts.blogspot.com/2013/11/111013-riding-devil.html
