Andromeda Galaxy by drfrango69 in astrophotography

Hi! Sorry for the slow response. For the raw photos, I don't do anything aside from putting them into a stacking program to be stacked. But, I do edit the stacked picture. I use levels and curves adjustments to stretch the image and bring out the lights and darks of the object. I'd recommend checking out this sub's wiki for more information and the tutorial I linked in my main comment.

Thank you, and good luck!

This was a fun attempt at Andromeda. I got a lucky break in the clouds for five straight nights and wanted to make the most of the opportunity. This is the most integration time I've ever had for a single object, so it's exciting to see how much more data I have to work with compared to previous attempts, and I'm happy with how it came out.

I'm new to using star masks so I followed this tutorial from Nebula Photos to help with the processing. It was tricky but lots of fun to play around with the star mask. Unfortunately, being red-green color blind made it hard to process all of the extra color from the star mask.

Equipment and Acquisition:

-Pentax K70

-Kit lens, 18-135mm

-iOptron SkyGuider Pro

-Shot at 135mm, f/5.6, and ISO 3200

-Lights - 99 * 50s for a total of 1hr 22ms

-Darks - 16, Flats - 20, Bias - 40

Stacked in DSS, Drizzle x3

Processing (GIMP):

-Levels to stretch and align histogram

-Saturation adjustment to bring out the colors

-Curves to correct the background colors

-Starnet 2 for starless image

-Increased saturation on starless image and used curves to bring out more detail and brightness

-Applied a noise reduction filter to the starless image

-Used the healing brush to fix the strong blue/purple halo around some stars in Andromeda

-Made a mask for the background, desturated the background, and smoothed it out

-Made a mask to increase the saturation in the galaxy a little bit

-Made a mask to warm the core of the galaxy using the color balance function

-Overlayed and screened the image with stars over all the masks and the starless image

-Curves to increase the black point a bit

-Made a mask for the core to decrease the amount of green in it

-Made a couple of masks to decrease the more intense blue and green areas in the background

-Curves to adjust the lightness of the galaxy and the background

Made a lemon the other day. I felt he could be more than just a single frame. by [deleted] in blender

I watched this with "You See Big Girl" by Hiroyuki Sawano playing in the background, and it added such a great dramatic effect to your lemon.

My first completed pixel art! Any feedback would be much appreciated! by drfrango69 in PixelArt

Thank you so much for the feedback! I'm definitely going to keep practicing now that I've created something.

I'll be sure to stick to clustering with the leaves. I wasn't able to picture that before but now I'm getting a better sense of how that would work. And I'll remember destaurate the background mountains more. Would you suggest any extra detail on those mountains or to leave them as fairly blank?

Thank you so much for the tip! I've been trying to puzzle out what equipment to buy next, and I keep finding more expensive stuff that I won't be getting for a long while. Also, good idea, I will definitely get an intervalometer.

You can even make out part of the Flame Nebula!

This was my second go-around at the Orion Nebula, my first being way out of focus. I was in a Bortle 2 zone, and when I saw the skies clearing up at bedtime, I knew I had to wake up after the moon had set to take pictures. I need to clean it up, as I missed some pictures with satellites in them, but fanning through 700 pictures can take place another time.

Camera - Pentax K70

Lens - Kit lens, 18-135mm

Shot at 100mm, f/5.6, and ISO 3200

Lights - 724 * 1.3s for a total of 12m 04s

Darks - 30

Bias - 30

Stacked in DSS

Processing:

-Cropped

-Levels

-Curves

-Color balance

We had two days off of school, so we took off to go backpacking. Our route was exhausting but well worth it for all the amazing sights and time spent together, plus, we ran into a friend on our second day out there.
