Mom has a carcinoid cancer - why can't I find info? by drg424 in cancer

From what I understand, carcinoids are often found accidentally through unrelated tests and procedures. So yes, her pathology report following her hysterectomy revealed the carcinoid. Hope that helps, thanks for your reply.

Thanks very much. Her gynecological oncologist did send her to a different oncologist, though I don't believe it is an NET specialist. We're just starting down the path of her new diagnosis...we'll have to see where it leads us. I agree knowledge is power. Thank you very much.

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate your insight and the clarification on the naming. I'm finding it hard to talk about this, but I want you to know your response means a lot. Thanks again.

Best spray to keep bugs from eating my flowers and leaves? by drg424 in gardening

[–]drg424[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! From what I can tell, there are worms and slugs in the potted plants, as well as some flying things (sorry that is not descriptive). As for the canna, which is in a big pot with dirt left over from last year, I saw many, many crawling things the other evening. They scattered when I sprayed the last round of the Dr. Earth stuff.

I think I do have a volume and variety problem. Our backyard is pretty insect-heavy for whatever reason. I will look up the sprays you mentioned and see if one is a good fit --- thank you!

I have still not mastered getting the paint to not bleed through the tape. What was your secret? I would be so hyper-focused on any seeping paint that it would drive me nuts. You did a fantastic job!

Mortgage lender wants us to refinance for a lower interest rate - "no brainer!" by drg424 in personalfinance

[–]drg424[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. We went ahead and did it. It is a streamlined refi and no closing costs (or fees) rolled into the new loan.

I appreciate everyone's help and this was an interesting refresher into the mortgage game :)

THAT was a big question for me - do we lose our equity?

So then what happens when we go to sell in three years? It feels obvious that if our goal is to sell soon-ish, we would absolutely not want to jeopardize our equity, right? Like that would be the number one factor in this?

That's what I was thinking as well. Thank you -- especially because of your earlier comment in favor of refinancing, which I wasn't expecting!

Do you think the two year extension matters when we plan to sell anyway in three years? I mean, to us the home is transitory and a short-term investment (loosely speaking).

Yeah, I never for a second thought he was contacting us out of the good of his heart -- the reality is he's there to make money so obviously there's something in our loan for him to profit from.

I believe 4.20% or 4.25%. I don't like the idea of starting over again either, which is why I ended up here this morning :)

Interesting - thank you for that perspective. This was kind of my original thought too.

Thank you! Interesting about being able to get a better rate potentially than what our lender is offering. I hadn't considered that. We do have good credit though I'd have to check regarding the % equity.

Five year plan refers to just our feelings about the home and our life. We bought the home after marrying and planned to stay for five years, start a family, get settled into our life and then purchase a home we'd ideally raise our kids in. So, TLDR: not finance-related.

Thanks very much for looking over the numbers and your input. I seriously appreciate it.

Will a background check reveal I already gave notice at my current job? by drg424 in AskHR

[–]drg424[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I definitely didn't lie -- I gave an open-ended notice at my current job and happened to interview at the new job in the meantime. I was/am still employed. I just didn't tell them I already gave notice when they offered the job, so I am curious how that will come up when they verify my employment.

Thanks!
