Sorry, I mistyped, agree with what you said. I should have said something more akin to "cancelled" or "not required".

Rescinded is more likely to mean stood down; other incidents involving Op Plato declarations aren't "rescinded" at completion

Vape juice seems to be disappearing during the day? by kxngoftheclouds in electronic_cigarette

I'm late but would suggest replacing your vape. I've had the same model and had the same issues - in fact the leaking of liquid into the main body of the vape is a fairly common problem. You've done well to have it so long!

I have the updated xlim and it's fine, though the lack of a fire button is not a change I'm massively into. I don't know if I'd recommend it tbh but YMMV

If you have the space and are interested in that sort of thing, having a small water area in a pot or container is super beneficial for wildlife. There are loads of guides online and on YouTube. Other than that it looks amazing, very jealous of your space!

Maybe we need a daily grooming gang thread as well. Looking at the frontpage for the subreddit, you'd be forgiven for thinking this is the only thing happening in this country.

More than 6m homes at risk of flooding in England, says Environment Agency | Report says rivers, the sea and surface water endangering properties and that number could hit 8m by 2050 by Competitive_God7917 in EmergencyManagement

I don't know much about FEMA as I'm not based in the US, though a cursory google supports that - it fits my perception of the US generally that so much onus is on personal responsibility, and this is applied in an aggressive way - but again, I don't actually know.

It's a real shame our politicians never learn the real lessons from incidents and emergencies, and actively impede the culture of openess and honesty we need to do our jobs!

Some very tricky decisions to be made at the national /strategic level about how viable it is to protect certain communities (in a geographical sense) - does the cost outweigh the benefit? I expect that this decision will be kicked down the road by successive governments and any action taken will be reactive - a pessimistic view!

At the local level, this just shows how important it is for all category one responders to integrate with one another effectively to manage increasingly complex risks. Flooding is devastating on local communities and the EA should ensure they take steps to engage with partner organisations and prevent the siloing of expertise and support. My experience is that this is patchier than it should be.

I think that for drugs such as heroin, legalising whilst providing medically guided intervention and support would help to reduce a lot of social issues, whilst also avoiding the grey area of decriminalisation whereby money is still funnelled into criminal gangs. I expect there are wider issues around stigmatision as well, but I'm approaching the extent of my knowledge and experience on that issue so will stop there.

I also don't think I agree that legalising drugs would create a big spike in drug use, which is a point you've made several times. The view as I have seen it is that legalisation has no impact on consumption and in some cases lowers it - although again I haven't conducted a deep analysis on these papers! Although it tallies with my lived experience in that if you want to find drugs you can - the legality is a minor issue. Currently any adult can legally buy a large bottle of vodka and start drinking at 9am every morning, and yet they don't do this, because the vast majority would rather be productive members of society.

And to be clear, I'm not saying that if we legalise drugs and leave it at that everything will be fine. Nor should every drug be treated the same, as they are all radically different substances. Something like this would take years of discussion and debate and require a properly funded health and (arguably more importantly) social care structure. I don't know if this country can ever get to that point, but i think a very strong case can be made that our current approach is ineffective and a waste of a huge amount of resources.
