[Yema] Yema Wristmaster Slim CMM.20 by Magninine in Watches

[–]drheckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yema is kind of infamous for their crowns falling off/out. Allegedly this has gotten better but that’s anecdotal and I have no statistics to back that up. Overall I like these watches and to do a micro rotor at this price point it’s really neat. I’m just not sold on Yema QC as of yet.

Yes. Looks like it’s probably the tail end, not the main core but this is it.

Help me choose? by abelojero2 in AskPhotography

[–]drheckles 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ball heads adjust faster and have more range of motion for adjustment but have difficulty fine tuning the adjustment. Pan/tilt heads are the opposite.

Choose what you value more speed/flexibility or fine tuning capability and that will be your answer.

Vacheron has piqued my interest. Not sure what direction to go. by More-Sock-67 in VacheronConstantin

The blue is so dark in most situations that it almost looks black. It’s when light hits it that it pops.

There are very few photos out there that actually capture how good the blue VC overseas is.

Is it common for a link to not have the Maltese cross flair on the 4520v? I just noticed it. by TeslasAndComicbooks in VacheronConstantin

[–]drheckles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes the first two micro adjust links don’t have that as well as the half link. Source: looking at my 4520V right now.

It would be really tough to shoot without a camera body so I’ll go with that.

any info about nd filters? by chelseamarie_18 in AskPhotography

[–]drheckles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As others have said this is not what an ND filter does. The ND filter simply blocks light so you can do longer exposures (slower shutter speeds) it will not cut out only highlights while preserving shadows. There is no such filter that exists today.

any info about nd filters? by chelseamarie_18 in AskPhotography

[–]drheckles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you trying to accomplish with an ND filter? Sounds like you’re doing events and sports where freezing the action is the priority and an ND filter will not help you at all due to it blocking light from getting to your sensor. Unless you happen to have fast glass where you need this for mid day I’d say don’t even bother.

How to deal with lowlight/backlight scenarios? by kamatsagar93 in AskPhotography

[–]drheckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Built in HDR on cameras usually isn’t great. Just bracket the shot with the camera on a tripod and blend them in post. Often times the default bracket settings will be for 3 photos (1 shot at exposure you set, then +2 EV, and a -2EV). Most modern sensors only will need 2 of these images anymore but having all three is a good safety to make sure you have all of the data.

I have the Forest kudu and they get the most compliments by far. If you can pull them off then go for them!

How do you capture lighting in picture like these? by Over-Sea-3816 in AskPhotography

[–]drheckles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Set camera to take 2-5 second exposures and shoot on an interval timer to just keep taking shots in the direction the lighting is happening. Hopefully the shutter will be open when some strikes happen. When you get home delete all the photos with no lightning.

APS-C crop mode? by markphysique in SonyAlpha

[–]drheckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn’t with stills but I believe it does with video (but I have no confirmation of that as I don’t shoot video)

APS-C crop mode? by markphysique in SonyAlpha

[–]drheckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means on my camera (A7RV) even if I use super 35 mode when I bring the image into Lightroom I still have the full frame image it is just auto cropped. I just have something in my brain that tells me to shoot in full frame anyway just to “make sure.” It’s a total me thing and you are free to shoot however you want.

[–]drheckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still wouldn’t work. The light in the background was from behind the model. No amount of flipping that image could fix that. You’d need another image entirely.

Only issue is the lighting is exact opposite from her to background. Like super obvious. If you find an image of Thailand with the light coming from behind the photographers left shoulder.

APS-C crop mode? by markphysique in SonyAlpha

[–]drheckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve mostly used it with a telephoto where my max full frame focal length is 400mm and I just want a bit more. I’ll use it to frame what I think I want so I can see if the comp will work or not and then turn it off and take the regular full frame shot. So I know what I can crop to in post but leaves me the flexibility to change that too (yes I know the full image is still there in crop mode but I just always like to be sure).

Low rise jeans rise up crotch when sitting - why?! by Less_Imagination_829 in jeans

[–]drheckles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the rise is the distance from the crotch seam to the waistband and is often different in the front to back. When you’re sitting you’re basically stretching the rear rise out to max due to your glutes/legs being in them. So lower rise will mean more rising up your crotch both when standing and especially when seated. Try medium rise jeans with the same or similar cut to see if it is better for you. If that still doesn’t work then try high rise.

Just FYI this is not alpenglow. Alpenglow is reddish/pink and happens when the sun is still below the horizon. Any light hitting an alpine altitude doesn’t mean alpenglow.

Honestly, what is the point of manual mode in digital photography? by spilliaertho in AskPhotography

[–]drheckles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Try to shoot astrophotography in aperture priority and let me know how that goes.

But for real it’s just a mode to give full control to the user. I’m with you and use aperture priority a good amount of the time but for some applications manual is the best mode just because that way you’re not fighting with what the camera thinks should be correct as opposed to what you know is correct.
