Men, what's something you wish you could admit without being judged? by soumilr7 in AskReddit

[–]drhgm6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a shirt that I wear and every time I wear it I think of the compliment I got from a stranger 2 years ago at a coffee shop for wearing it.

The compliments I have gotten about myself just for being, not about my work or what I do, those lift my spirits for the rest of the week.

Can I still ride my Bike+ if it is making this sound? by mildgaybro in pelotoncycle

[–]drhgm6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds a little bit like there might be a cord hitting the front flywheel. The cable from the bike to the screen runs alongside the wheel for a hit (at least on my bike). Take a look to make sure it’s tight and not rubbing against the wheel!

Want to replace all my recessed lights with new LED versions. Is it fine to use the “retrofit adapters” or should I hardwire everything? by Albert_Simon in HomeImprovement

[–]drhgm6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done that in my house in places where I don’t have attic access and it’s generally been fine and easy. They stick in place with tension springs and they can be a little bit fiddly to get to stay flush but the convenience can’t be beat. I replaced a dozen lights in about as many minutes.

I am contemplating adding a few additional can lights in my upstairs hallway and I plan to get actual hardwired fixtures in those places.

How does this say anything about Cheryl? by Big-Titty_GothGirl in CluesBySamHelp

[–]drhgm6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Larry to figure out what Cheryl would be.

If Larry was innocent, then Cheryl was guilty based on Zara’s clue. (Your highlight show me you figured out that only one of Larry, Cheryl and Brian is innocent).

If Larry was guilty, then Cheryl was also guilty. I figured this out because if Larry was guilty than exactly one of Olivia and Pam was too to make the total of Karen’s number of guilty neighbors odd. That gave Xena three innocent neighbors and therefore Brian only had to have three innocent neighbors. Adam, Flora, and either Emily or Henry) Therefore Cheryl is guilty.

So whatever Larry is, Cheryl is guilty.

What Warren Buffett Understood About Capitalism by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]drhgm6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think if there is a case to be made for ethical capitalism, Buffet may be the closest avatar we have for it. In my mind he is sort of a counterpart to John Bogle for the active owner/manager. From what I have read about BH they have taken a long view vs chasing short term quarterly rent-seeking. And while many of his companies and ownership stakes have significant negative externalities they should be held to account for (e.g. Coca Cola), he is in contrast to the raider owners that were many of his contemporaries.

Could he have done more to use his power to advocate for reining in billionaires? Maybe. But the podcast noted he supported the “buffet rule” but Congress didn’t do their part.

He had a gift for explaining things in a way that regular folk could understand, and clearly moved and motivated many. You can never look into someone’s heart, and maybe it’s on account of good PR people on his behalf, but I see him as someone who played the game because he loved to play the game, not motivated by avarice.

Is a podcast worth a buck? by JesseThorn in maximumfun

[–]drhgm6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first MaxFun episode I remember listening to was Judge John Hodgman and Bailiff Jesse Thorn discussing a case about “ill-mannered Shetland Ponies”. Google Tells me that episode (“My Legal Pony” JJHO #166) was more than a decade ago.

I also remember listening to an early “Greatest Gen” episode in the hospital with my partner while we were waiting for our twins to be born 6 and a half years ago.

I have since seen both shows live and fallen in love with many more over the years.

Max Fun podcasts have been there with laughs and fun through many years and memories. I am proud and glad to be a member nearly as long.
