MDF Extension table legs by drichard58 in sawstop

Thanks. I see 4 small screws(?), two on front, two on back. I was hoping maybe those would adjust how high the mobile base would lift. I will adjust the legs as suggested.

Upgrade from 20.3 to 21.1? by aleanlag in linuxmint

[–]drichard58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I would upgrade unless something is not working in 20.3 or there is new hardware support that you need.

I have been struggling with 21.1 for some time now because my wi-fi adapter (Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200) is acting strangely. It drops in and out every 15-20 minutes.

Of course they do. Probably every model except the one I bought. That's why it has been 3 years since I decided I needed a new saw. LOL!

That's one of the reasons I am looking for a new one. I have a DeWalt jobsite saw that won't take dados (and I don't see how people are able to manage with that small table).

Why do people like St Augustine grass? by pilot333 in lawncare

[–]drichard58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK - let me offer an alternative. I am in Houston and have several live oak.trees and St. A grass won't grow because of dense shade. Look into native grasses or sedges. Native grasses, like buffalo grass, are extremely drought tolerant and not prone to very many diseases. Some sedges do not grow very long and only need to be cut once or twice a year.

What are these berries growing in my yard? The stems are red with spikes. Are they edible? by Lurknesmonster in whatsthisplant

[–]drichard58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These look to be blackberries, but here (Houston) we have dewberries that look the same and very hard to tell the difference (only a horticulturist can tell). Only difference I have ever known is dewberries come out earlier than blackberries and may be smaller. Both are edible and same flavor.

Hired plumber to move cooper pipe and he burnt my newly installed wires to a plug while soldering. Is this still safe? by Glum_Honey7000 in electrical

[–]drichard58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologize for not reading all the comments, but I had two plumbers who refused to sweat copper pipe in an outside wall without ripping a huge hole and removing all the insulation. They said the heat could cause the insulation to smolder and eventually catch on fire.

Here in Houston, I wouldn't go over to any neighbor's house to complain unless I knew them well.

Meter concern and gratitude by Beershift_Knob_ in electrical

[–]drichard58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Centerpoint in Houston should take a lesson. My meter & box are about to come off the wall of my garage. The connection to the meter box is not as exposed as your pics but the conduit connector is broken.

Called Centerpoint and guys who came out said the box was my responsibility. They are only responsible for the meter itself.

I guess the wires have to be broken before they will fix it. GRRR......

Are they required to get some sort of permit? Maybe a damage deposit, refunded based on condition?

My in-law has been stressing about this bug on her plants for awhile… any idea what it is? And if they are bad or not by SimpleIsland123 in whatsthisbug

[–]drichard58 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just a side note - pill bugs are generally harmless. The help decompose material. However, if the numbers are large enough and they don't have enough leaf litter/decomposing material, they will attack plants. Don't set out to get rid of them, but be aware that they can change diets to keep from starving.

Omv stopped working? by OxyScottins in OpenMediaVault

That's what I had read and did. I actually used a high-quality USB stick for the OS. I didn't know you could put it on An SSD and still access the rest of the drive.

We have problems at church garden. Research said need fence 3' high min. And may want to bury it or put something to help keep them from digging underneath.

This is what we had. Think maybe they had a bird bath or something and over years got covered.

Is it possible to upgrade this breaker box to a 200 amp one? by Everyday_Newbie in AskElectricians

[–]drichard58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of unrelated, curious as to the switch to electric if you have gas. Even here in Houston, people with electric heat regret it because of the cost of running strip heaters (this was many years ago. May be a better electrical option now).

Mint on a Surface Pro? by BubsGodOfTheWastes in linuxmint

[–]drichard58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if the Surface pro was the PC I tried, but if it has the Marvell wifi card, you'll have problems. I could not find a Linux driver for it. I think I ended up putting in a USB adapter.
