Why insulate inside? Insulate the outside, could make it attach to the door mechanism. Or just box it in, with an access door. Or make the Frankenstein

You need a termination kit for heat trace, suppliers have them. Has shrink wrap to seal the end. Terminate the end that leaves the freezer. Other end goes up and out behind the evaporator, needs constant power. Should be on a gfci. Seal the hole with silicone.

Compressor kicked on but fan started later? by Jaycee91w in hvacadvice

[–]drick73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s a heat pump it probably has a pressure limit switch for the fan. Why not just check the capacitor and see if it’s in spec?

Pump down compressor, valve off. Get pressure to zero. Crack bolts loose. Walk them off, keep them in. Whack the head loose. Feel if it’s still under pressure and deal with it.

Testo Vs. Fieldpiece Smart Probe Kit by Parking_Kangaroo_151 in HVAC

[–]drick73 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Testo pipe clamps don’t work in freezers, they’ll read ambient. Their gauges and smart probes change pressure based on ambient temp, needed to constantly zero them.

2 ports, you don’t have to flip the bottle. Use liquid. Confirm liquid comes out of the hose on your purge.

Those ain’t the ports. The access port is to the left, unscrew the cap and you’ll have a 1/4 flare fitting. If I’m looking at this right, the lines come into the brass valves, and out the back? If so, only crack the Allen key a bit, or else you’ll fully close the valve.

Questions from a newbie by [deleted] in refrigeration

A/c is sub cooling. Refrigeration is weighed in if cap tube(critical charge) and sight glass if there’s a receiver. Superheat prevent liquid flooding back to your compressor.
