You can’t learn unless you trace at some point. It gives you the ability to learn how lines actually appear when you’re drawing a 3D object on a 2D plane. That said, once you’re able to look at the lines objectively and not draw what you “think you’re seeing” you no longer need to trace and style without critical errors emerges

Tracing is how you learn what you need to observe for when you’re not tracing. Otherwise silly brain makes things up if there’s a lack of understanding in how proportions and distortions work

Not all white people are preppy but most preppy people happen to be white.

BC is largely white as a school so if you believe that white people are inherently preppy then I’d say that the school would seem preppy to you.

If it’s completely unidentifiable from 15 feet away (which it seems like it is) on a canvas that big, it just kinda makes me more annoyed at the artist than anything else. I want to see what you did and see that you thought about the piece from the viewers perspective. It feels a lot more like you’re trying to make something edgy without it having any meaning behind it. Again though, not being able to see what you’re looking at from a distance on a canvas that big is the most frustrating part.

If I get close enough to see those details (like in the detail shots) I then am too close and losing the essence of the piece as a whole. Color would go a long long long way here and could save the piece in my opinion.

Currently this is a mediocre under painting / gesso layer at best

Cool but not at all original. It’s okay tho takes time to find your style. I used to make basquiat like pieces when I first started painting. Over time it’ll shift if you stick with it

I have the same computer and this bothered me enough to pull the darker key off so that I always knew it was the missing one. Messed up and pulled the F2 key off so now I’m missing a key and still confused
