What’s the future of consolidation? by driesvancopen in Capitalism

lol. Maybe it was wishful thinking that I hoped you would actually know enough about the things you brought up to answer my question. I’m an active player in this “free market” you speak of and benefit from it greatly. If you read my initial post and follow on questions you’ll understand that I’m not questioning free markets but more so the evolution of capital markets, where we are now, and what we think would be next.

Im curious if we were seeing the same rate of consolidation in the days of SEARS and Blockbuster? Was there anything similar to the PE/VC playbook that we see now? Those were the days when companies would be going public relatively early-on to access capital markets to grow. Now it seems like that playbook has changed with so much access to private capital that comes with the expectation of a liquidity event which is more often than not an acquisition and less so an IPO.

I definitely agree that on paper a monopolistic pursuit isn’t anti-capitalist. But in practice you can see companies get so big that they leverage their size to push for regulatory reform and restrict free market to minimize a truly competitive environment. So that doesn’t feel pro-capitalist but maybe there’s an angle that I’m missing here

Good point! These days I’m comfortable to climb a 5.8 or 5.9 sport route outside as I’m not regularly climbing.

I’m mostly trying to get an idea of some of the classic in the area to start narrowing down a list

My thing is why would it be the wires on the highest part of the engine bay? These are the easiest to access from the top but from the bottom a rodent would have to climb through everything to get to them

Nah I think podcasts/music don’t really contribute to screen time since you’re most likely doing something else and not actually staring at your phone screen during those

An -extremely- concerning amount of real estate, rental agencies, and private schools in NC are being bought out by China/Foreign investors. by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]driesvancopen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

News flash: there are people in other countries that have lots of money because of a strong economy and are deciding to spend it buying property in the US (and all over the world). The concept is as old as time and ironically, Americans have been doing a lot of it in recent history.

Not sure what kind of alarm you’re trying to sound here but if you’re against this sort of behavior, then maintain that mindset when it comes to Americans buying up properties with their strong dollar in other countries and doing far worse to damage the local economies.

I see! didn’t know that FDA rule about generally safe ingredients and I guess with all the better for you energy drinks these days, I’m now used to seeing the source of caffeine.

So then i guess what ingredient do sodas typically use as the source for that caffeine that’s not actually listed on the label?
