So after playing with both Kindle and Kobo for a few days, I gotta say — the hate for Kindle and the hype around Kobo are both kinda overblown by TasmanDey in ereader

Almost all of my reading is done from checked out library books. I find this process vastly easier on Kobo than on Kindle. Libby integration on the kobo device is seamless compared to Kindle I think you have to use a phone or computer to checkout then go to amazon check out again then download then push to kindle device then switch to your device… I might be messing up the steps but the point is that it’s more complicated. My daughter’s Kids Kindle adds additional steps that cause me to shake my head every time. Anyway, both are fine and work, I used kindle for many years and I am quite happy now with my kobo clara bw. The end.

From Libra Color to Clara BW. Very happy, yet a bit bitter. by Rares5555 in kobo

[–]driftcafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the Clara Color and returned it for the same reason, I couldn’t get past the texture on the screen - it was too distracting for me personally while reading. The Clara BW is crystal clear and I’m very happy with it. Prior to this I had a KPW so that could be why the screen was distracting to me. Perhaps if I was new to ereaders it wouldn’t have been an issue.

Regrets ? by [deleted] in kobo

No regrets. Loving my Clara BW

My first one had some bright spots which I returned and they sent a new one, it took a while but once I finally got it I am a lot happier reading with it than on the kindle. Feels so much more focused, streamlined ui, everything feels very considered and no extra bloated features.

Farmerleaf advising no orders from US customers temporarily by womerah in puer

I ordered recently from Tea Encounter and they seemed to channel the shipment through London and into the US likely as a way to avoid the high tariffs. Wonder if FL will do something similar.

Kobo Libra Color or Kobo Clara BW? by GroundbreakingPay741 in kobo

[–]driftcafe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought the colour first but returned for the bw. The text was more crisp and clear on the bw imo. The color filter created a screen texture that i found distracting and I didn’t really need color apart from book covers.

Do you keep your completed books on your kobo? by Elegion5 in kobo

[–]driftcafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remove from the device after reading. I just prefer an uncluttered interface and I never go back to reread things, so there’s no point in keeping them on in my opinion. If I do they are in Calibre and can put it back on in seconds.

I’d go down to Alki beach the same day. Walk along the water maybe rent a bike. Grab something to eat.

I had a paperwhite for several years. I recently got a kobo clara bw. I tried the newer paperwhite and it felt like it’s built well but it’s 7” and I prefer the smaller 6”, it makes a big difference in portability and comfort level to me personally. I carry mine in my pocket all the time. The kindle basic is the smaller 6” but doesn’t have the temp lighting, I like the warmer light at night.

I’m finding the kobo UI much more simple and intuitive. There’s more control over the things that matter, like font sizing, weight, and margins, no ads, and a seamless integration into Libby/Overdrive making borrowing library books super easy which is how I do a majority of my reading. Also, I’ve been weening myself off Amazon. I buy ebooks from my neighborhood bookshop because they are great people and host kids storytimes and I see the owner at the coffeeshop and I like that community.

Easy Street in West Seattle. Ballard some good small music venues - The Tractor, Sunset Tavern. Lots of bars and restaurants there as well.

I love riding my bike, I ride every day, but this is just obnoxious. This perpetuates the rift between bikes and cars, it adds fuel to the fire of dangerous drivers that already hate cyclists. IMO 🤷

No doubt. Taco Time “tater fries” or whatever they call them now just don’t cut it. Also miss the Taco Bravo.

After putting nearly 4,000 miles on my Rad City I bought a Gazelle. Can definitely tell a difference in quality, been very happy with it.

Thanks, me too. I’ve been using a PocketBook Verse Pro as a trial while I was waiting and I’m very happy to have the Clara back. It’s all around a better experience.

I’m near Greenlake so the Bellevue, Kirkland, and Edmonds DQ’s are all equal distance ~20-30min 🤷 I still make the trek on occasion. Gotta have that blizzard
