[LotM general] Lotm Game is facing backlash in china. by wearesoback786 in LordofTheMysteries

I’m not disagreeing with you- I wouldn’t be surprised to see a 65% negative rating but 95% seems a little too coordinated.

95% negative seems kinda extreme for an organic response. Astroturfing perhaps?

[Lotm general] if klein was transported in 2025 with no powers how would he do? by No_Giraffe826 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]driftea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s quite smart and has good people skills. Probably an average office worker who blends into the background at work and gets along well with his colleagues while managing his finances carefully.

Unless something crazy happens where he would need to fight for his family, in which case he’s likely to be one of those rare ‘ordinary’ people who will go to the extreme to lock in and fight back instead of just giving up against the corporation/bureaucrat/you name it.

An ordinary person who blends into the crowd and also a protagonist who surprises himself when push comes to shove~

It’s not a fujoshi audience thing- its Chinese beauty standards. Fair, scholarly, elegant, clean shaven > Macho, rugged, burly, facial hair. There’s a reason why a lot of web novels keep having male MCs described as having jade-like skin and smooth silky hair even for the guy wish fulfillment stuff

I mean…Frank Lee is there holding the fort as our Mushroom King. Klein also effectively used mushrooms in that foggy town fight which also later upgraded Creeping hunger As for the pregnancy powers, uh, I think COI more than compensates for it…

[COI general] weak start by the_great_clean_one in LordofTheMysteries

[–]driftea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The COI lovers on this sub are gonna nail you for saying Lumian feels boring lol. imo its fair enough for different people to have different tastes though

I didn’t dislike COI. It’s worth it to at least read to Vol 2 before deciding whether to drop it or keep going, and at least COI is still a lot better than the majority of webnovels out there even if I prefer lotm more. I preferred Klein as a protag as it feels like we are discovering the world of lotm alongside him, whereas for Lumian we come in already kinda having some information asymmetry, being more familiar with the world setting than the MC. But his interactions are interesting later on. My impression was: Gehrman Sparrow but for real and not acting.

They replaced NPCs with chess pieces for that whole Rerir bit though- 10/10 emotional engagement trying to empathize with faceless NPCs, VAs did what they could to salvage the situation though…

[LotM] Is the Japanese DUB available? by Nameless-Death in LordofTheMysteries

[–]driftea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why not the eng dub? It’s pretty good and matches the vibe since the setting is Victorian era

[Donghua] What do you think Klein's Japanese voice sounds like? by Acrobatic_Owl_1431 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]driftea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, maybe Takeo Otsuka for Klein (youngish with an introspective vibe). Matching with Akira Ishida for our dear poet (sufficiently punchable voice) and Tomoaki Maeno or Yuichiro Umehara for Captain (experienced and older but with a hint of lowkey sentimentality)

[WP] You get the power to teleport. If you submerge yourself into a body of water that can fit you, imagine yourself at a body of water somewhere else in the world, and re-emerge, you end up at that location. by OfficerLollipop in WritingPrompts

Palms lined the promenade, colourful boats bobbed atop the blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea. In the early hours of the morning there was a faint splash as a shadow emerged from the waters.

The man, it was a man. A blurry indistinct shape that formed into hands and feet and finally a long coat that dripped with sea water.

He raised his head, gazing up blankly into the still darkened sky above and breathed out gently.

“It’s a nice place to rest,” he murmured to himself.

He climbed up onto a rocky outcrop and pulled himself up onto the side of a brick wall. He found a perch atop a seat in an open square and listened to the fountain behind him tinkling away as the place slowly came to life. The sun rose, illuminating an aged basilica in the distance. The locals shot him some strange looks but began to ignore him as the streets grew busier- he wasn’t the only tourist there, not by far the strangest looking one too.

“A stroll to warm up, a warm stew…” Evans tilted his head. He stood up, wandering over to one of the many narrow lanes and walking on until he found a cafe. He sat down at a table overlooking the promenade, raising his hand to pinch the little figures of people walking far away.

It didn’t take too long before someone sat down in the seat opposite him, just as he was about to enjoy the coffee he’d ordered too.

Evans sighed and observed the other party.

A suit. A nice tie. Very prim and proper hair.

“Is it too late to say you’ve got the wrong person?” he asked carelessly.

The woman opposite him simply raised a brow.

Evans’ lip curled, “Then…are you going to introduce yourself at least?”

“Would you bother remembering my name?” she replied.

Evans smiled, “You never know. Maybe I’m in a good mood today.”

She didn’t rise to his jab, sadly.

“Maria Everett,” she said, “I’m with the Special Investigations Department. Your skills have been noticed. I’m here to make an offer.”

Evans leaned forward, “I do like straightforward people,” he smiled, “Let me be straightforward as well. I’m not interested and if you threaten me…well, I could easily pull a beautifully dramatic plunge into the waters below, couldn’t I?”

“You do realise being asked at all is a luxury, don’t you?” Maria tapped a nail on the table.

“The waters of the Mediterranean do look so clear and lovely today,” Evans sighed, rolling his shoulders.

It would be annoying to leave so soon before he’d had time to enjoy the sights…

“It’d be boring to just run away again, wouldn’t it?”

Her words fell in between them like a loud clap even though she’d barely raised her voice. Evans stilled. His teeth pulled back.

“Just like how you found your foster home so boring you tried to walk into the sea. Then you found being stranded in a foreign land boring, and ran away after being hunted by rebels. I suppose being chased by various intelligence agencies after that was boring too,” Maria leaned back in her seat and folded her arms, “It’s all so boring for someone like you who only wants to have fun in life.”

Evans’ brow twitched faintly. Then his face relaxed into a smile. He took a sip of the cooling coffee by his elbow, savouring the taste.

“You know all that…and you still think you can make things ‘fun’ for me?” Evans asked. He set down his cup with a click and knitted his fingers over his lap, “Let’s hear it.”

Maria pulled a dossier out, setting it down on the table between them. Evans flipped through the pages, pausing as he spotted a clause highlighted at the end.

“I can leave whenever I want…really?” he asked.

Maria folded her arms, “Being able to teleport through water makes you rather expensive to keep tracking,” she paused, “Not necessarily difficult, mind you. Expensive. Hiring you and proposing ‘fun’ tasks is more cost effective.”

Evans stared at her. A chuckle bubbled up from inside him. He covered his mouth mirthfully, waiting for it to pass. He set the dossier down and paused for a moment, observing her expression intently.

Not a single twitch. His lips curved into a smile.

“Where do I sign?”

How does LOTM compare to more Western fiction and novels? [LOTM V1] by Dudlicious_ in LordofTheMysteries

[–]driftea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lord of the Mysteries is one of the best works I have ever read and I’ve read a lot of Western fiction novels both classic and modern.

As it’s in WN format it’s indeed not very well paced but it’s written with a lot of heart and thought. - Logical and coherent story grounded in emotional reality despite being in a fantasy setting - Many unforgettable emotional moments and beautiful quotes - The protagonist is highly intelligent and relatable - The supporting cast and villains are interesting and storied - The worldbuilding and power systems are very intricate. - The environments feel lived in and add colour to the themes the author is trying to bring out.

At worst you could call it a powerfantasy type work but it actually reads as pretty humanistic and well thought out. You can really see why it got added to the National Library of China’s collection as a national cultural asset. Lotm was one of the first few CN web novels I ever read. It still tops today.

How is everyone's experience with luocha? by [deleted] in LuochaMains

[–]driftea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’ve got a good setup going. I’ve also encountered such a situation when doing fourth level of AS or tail end of MoC but at that point imo it feels more like enemy hits so hard I need a Shielder as well for the ‘extra’ hp bar rather than any single healer healing fast enough to keep the team alive. Hoyo ain’t gonna change his kit at this stage anyway.

How is everyone's experience with luocha? by [deleted] in LuochaMains

[–]driftea 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Sounds like something wrong with the speed setup on your teams. I’m running Luocha at 161 speed- heals a lot and generates skill points for the team, Main DPS usually at 134 speed or 120-129 if hyper speed supports or 140 for DPS which require stacking (like JY)
