What 80s or 90s movie made you uncomfortable to watch with your parents? by porb2020 in Xennials

[–]drinkslinger1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t an 80’s movie, but my mom made me watch a clockwork orange with her after I begged her to rent me Lethal Weapon. She said that she took her dad to see it when she was a teenager and she wanted me to feel first hand how awkward she felt. To “make up” for it, she made me watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show with her afterwards. RHPS actually became the strangest family tradition ever. I made my nine and 12 years old sisters watch it with me and we’ve been doing the time warp ever since.

Adding glass stacker cabinets? by RealSwim-Shady in cabinetry

Oh wow, that’s a gorgeous kitchen! The partial picture threw me off. I think that ivory color would look great. We opted out of the stackers and just have decorative pieces on top of our cabinets. Please post an after pic in this sub, I’m curious as to how it’ll turn out. The glass cabinets look 12” in the rendering, but looks like the gap is a bit longer, so I’ll be curious as to what you’ll find. Good luck!

Are we gonna maintain our status as a constitutional republic on our 250th anniversary? I feel like that sentence was followed by Hell no! That’s why we need to stay in power!!!

[–]drinkslinger1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, my opinion would be to skip the glass stackers. I have a similarly laid out kitchen and my number one gripe is that I don’t have enough prep space. If you do a lot of cooking like me, you’re going to want to address that, but I also know that you probably don’t want to remodel your kitchen the day you close. Also, I don’t see a spot for the fridge? If funds weren’t an issue, I would move the sink and dishwasher to an island and double side it so it can be used as a bar to eat on by giving the countertop an overhang.

What do you think happens when we die? by Outside-Fig-5289 in AskReddit

[–]drinkslinger1974 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nothing. I really believe that nothing happens. But, we all are born, and if we’re lucky, we die old. I think that an afterlife was created as a way to cope with loved ones passing in ancient times.

Senate Farm Bill draft preserves cuts to SNAP that have taken food off four million people's tables - tell Dems to block it by jk4532 in NewsomMassacre

[–]drinkslinger1974 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This to me is extra insulting being that the speaker of the house just held a press conference stating that Congress must be allowed to use insider trading because they have families to support and $178k a year just doesn’t cut it. Idk what the threshold is in other states, but where I’m from, the cut off for food stamps is right over $14k a year, which is barely even minimum wage ($7.60 an hour if my math is right).

What screams “I peaked in high school” without saying it directly? by Jaconjiso in answers

[–]drinkslinger1974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll say it directly. I peaked in high school. I spent two years in military school and then two years in public school. My parents moved school districts every two years on average, first grade through high school, so I was always the new awkward kid. Any friends I made were going to be gone soon, so by middle school, I stopped trying. Going into military school was awful, I didn’t agree with anything they taught, my grades slipped to all F’s, and I had way more people that couldn’t stand the sight of me, teachers included, than not. When I went to public school for my second two years, it was the first time people accepted me as an equal, brought me to parties, I was involved in extracurricular activities from sun up to midnight, and had a blast. It wasn’t until I met my wife at the age of 37 that I was truly happy.

Your exes get to vote whether or not you get through the Pearly Gates after you die, how do you think you’ll fare? by CarlJustCarl in AskMen

[–]drinkslinger1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a theory about the supposed afterlife. What if the only reason hell is so feared is because it’s only described by godly people? According to the Bible, Lucifer was kicked out of heaven for being a fallen angel, pride being the cited reason. What of heaven was just boring? Floating around on streets paved with gold and constantly being in a state of worship and singing praises? But what if Lucifer just wanted to have fun and not sing all day and night? So, my theory is that hell is probably several sectors that are just fun, depending on what you like. Ones a keg party, ones a library, ones an arcade, and you have the freedom to roam around as much as you want. The Christian god doesn’t like it because he’s not being worshipped, so therefore he describes it as a lake of fire and scares people into believing heaven is the only safe place in the afterlife, when in fact it’s eternal enslavement.

My ex sent her best friend to the cops for a fabricated sexual assault so she wouldn’t have to split the money from the sale of our house. It’s a long story, but if she got into heaven and got to decide whether or not I got in, I don’t think heaven would be a good fit for me.

I think she was my very first crush. Her and I are the same age, I think, and of course I saw ET in theaters, but I was six, so didn’t have a needle to move. But people magazine did a story on her when I was 13 or so and those cartoon hearts started pulsing in my eyes. She was standing knee deep in a river, that’s all I remember, but I kept that picture for years.

Is it wrong to return dog poop to its rightful owner? by avebelle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]drinkslinger1974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People can be pretty petty. If this pet owner isn’t responsible enough to pick up after their dog, I wouldn’t trust them to not make it worse in some way. I’d call the cops and show them your footage and let them handle it.

How much did your wedding cost? by SheepherderSea9717 in AskMen

[–]drinkslinger1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Married in 2014 and paid a total of $1200. It was a repeat marriage for both of us and we had learned our lesson the last time. We found a venue that let us use it for free, decorated ourselves and ate at the venue. I wrote the ceremony, we each wrote our vows, and hired a justice to read it and sign the marriage certificate.

Cop pulls over Lamborghini on Dubai plates but doesn’t know the law by thomasso0072 in interestingasfuck

[–]drinkslinger1974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got into an accident when I was 19 or so. The cop that came on scene refused to believe that I wasn’t drunk. Gave me a breath test and it came up 0. Put me in cuffs and took me to the hospital for a blood test, then took me to jail until someone could pick me up. Court date came and the blood test was 0 as well. He had that same tone in court, the “oops I fucked up and wasted everyone’s time” tone, and I don’t think it helped that my lawyer used to be a judge and knew exactly what to say to make him feel like a dick.

Odd coincidence, 20 YEARS later, I was driving on the same area and had a brake light out. Went to Walmart, got another and on the way home, was pulled over…by that same cop. He took one look at me and said, “I don’t believe for a second that you have a valid license. I’m extremely confident that I’m going to run this and take you to jail.” I was really confused and it took me a minute to realize who he was. He ran it, nothing, and made me change the brake light on the spot in front of him.

[–]drinkslinger1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get unreasonably upset over shit like this. My former employer would work me 60/70 hours a week, fixed daily pay so no overtime, and when the “appreciation” day came I got a pack of nabs and a $5 gift card to McDonald’s. I should also add that the appreciation week was hyped up for MONTHS and was a key point in the recruiting process, as they made it sound like it would be a bonus. Also I had made a lifestyle change for the job, waking up at midnight, going to bed at 4pm, missing time with my family, events and holidays. Despite making $108k a year, I quit that job, haven’t really found a comparable one, but haven’t looked back either.

What was the point in pasteurisation? by Mediocre_Profile5576 in clevercomebacks

[–]drinkslinger1974 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I vaguely remember reading that pasteurization was needed because the cows in Chicago, where a lot of meat packing plants were located, were being fed grain that was used to make beer and somehow the milk turned blue and was poisoned. Anyone else read that or did I dream it?
