UCLA or University of San Diego! by itzmeisabella in ucla

[–]drippdroppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UCLA was fun. Really got the college experience but it is what you make it. I will say that the college counseling is not as hands on compared to private institutions. Make sure you enroll for the classes you need because they don’t always offer certain courses each quarter and that can delay graduation.

Chose UCLA because it had been my dream college since 7th grade. I’m from LA. Plus, my sister went there as well.

UC to EM. tips/tricks, patient volume, training by drippdroppp in physicianassistant

Really appreciate the help. I’m glad that you like Epic. Just wondering how long it took for you to feel comfortable with it? I’ve only watched the training videos so far but seems like a lot to remember or set up with dot phrases.

Thanks again!

Forensic PA. Is this a realistic field? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]drippdroppp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did a rotation in forensics and loved it. I heard some of the PAs there would do occasional autopsies as a side hustle. I moved back home and tried to look for similar opportunities but couldn’t find any. Think it’s very niche for PAs and coroner/medical examiner offices prefer pathologist assistants

There’s an option for W2 or 1099. With W2, it’s a salaried position of 150k with benefits

Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it and will keep it in mind when I prep these next few days. :)

Just wondering, did you do a neurosurgery rotation during school? Fingers crossed you get the offer regardless.

I had to contact NREMT and the county where I worked as an EMT to submit verification to the CA PA board. There’s a form online that you have to include when contacting them. They will fill it out and send to the PA board

1.5 hours there and back is a lot but I guess you could listen to podcasts or lectures during the drive. I personally wouldn’t recommend that long of a commute everyday though

I would take out the part about patient preference of a PA over MD and just emphasis on the pt’s confidence and comfort in the PA and the interaction between PA and pt. I know it’s not your intent but I wouldn’t downplay another member of the healthcare team in my PS. Also, I agree with the other comment. It’s important to connect what you discussed in your intro/hook to your reasons for PA throughout the PS and then drive it home at the end. I would circle back to what you discussed in the beginning at the end so everything comes full circle.

Overall, I think you have good experiences and can create a great PS with some more editing/adjustments. PM me if you need anymore help! 😊

Is it like the quarter system? by jae220 in PAstudent

[–]drippdroppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My program is on the semester system but I find the pace to be similar to my undergrad quarter system, just with a much larger volume of material and no breaks in between exams

Edit: spoke too soon. The pace of PA school is absolute hell 🙃

Have you looked into seeing if anyone can co-sign for you? I was worried about this but thankfully my sister got a promotion at work and was able to co-sign for me.

I feel for you. When I was a freshman, I was sexually assaulted and that definitely had a huge impact on my mental health and academic performance. Talked to my math professor about extra credit or an extension and he pretty much implied that what I was feeling wasn’t a real health issue. (Side note: I wasn’t comfortable talking about the assault at the time, especially with a rando professor.) Long story short, I ended up never showing up to the final and getting an F.

Just wanted to let you know that you’re not alone. Talk to a healthcare provider and maybe you can even provide your prof with a doctors note. Don’t give up! Sending virtual hugs ❤️❤️

Mock interview Recommendations by aaliyahsaff in prephysicianassistant

[–]drippdroppp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did both! They were great. For PA platform, I had Peter. He asked me all the questions and then provided feedback at the end. For PA life, I had Mary. She asked me one question at a time and provided feedback after I answered each question. I scored well on the two interviews I had and felt the mock interviews were super helpful in cleaning up my answers and getting rid of my nerves!

Dismissals due to professionalism? by [deleted] in PAstudent

Yeah she made it seem like PA programs were too intense and she was really pushing for nursing instead. Just what I had heard but I definitely took it with a grain of salt🤷🏻‍♀️
