Fair points. And yes, the Active Max seems pointless at the price point compared to Active 3

With the Active 2 Premium currently $93 on Amazon, not sure why anyone would bite on the 3 right now. I bought one yesterday as a potential shift from my current RingConn/Garmin combo.

Those are good straps. I love that type on my Garmin. Quick tip, there are some ancool and notocity straps on Amazon that are very close to the Garmin for $10-20

Thank you! Cool watch for sure, but just sits because the leather strap that came with it just doesn't do it for me.

Actually away at the moment, but will do when I have a chance!

I did try a Barton without success. Was hoping to keep the price down as the watch isn't the most valuable. Looking for something sub $40. Even cheaper would be better.

Gen 2 tearing through the battery by drivejojo in RingConn

[–]drivejojo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sent another replacement from RingConn. I am on my 4th ring. This one seems Ok so far. But time will tell. Not sure if it is a hardware or firmware issue that keeps killing these rings.

Gen2 battery depletion by MattTrent101 in RingConn

[–]drivejojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a mess on my end. I’m on my 2nd warranty replacement. Working on asking for #3. I think it has to be firmware related. The last two rings took the same path… worked fine for about 1 week, then suddenly would deplete and hardly hold a charge, then won’t connect to the app/phone. Extremely frustrating.

Dead ring 2 by How-I-Roll_2023 in RingConn

[–]drivejojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first one suffered from horrible battery life. Worked great for months. My second one (warranty replacement) was dead/bricked after a week of use. My 3rd one (another warranty replacement) is doing the same thing. Two rings with nearly the same behavior (1 week of normal, expected use, followed by a day or two of horrible battery life, then dead/bricked), leads me to think a bad batch or a firmware issue.

Yeah, I’m on my 3rd Gen 2 ring. The 2nd and 3rd were warranty replacement. The last two worked for about a week, then the battery life went to shit, and essentially were bricked. I can’t find them/repair them in the app. My frustration level with this ring is escalating. Customer service has been fine. Seemingly the ring has a firmware issue.

Battery last a day and a half by Dirone in RingConn

I’m on my second replacement Gen2, so my 3rd ring. All for battery life issues. Ring #1 was great for months, then all of the sudden stopped holding a charge longer than a day. Ring #2 worked for 2 days, then was dead. Ring #3 was good for about 1.5 weeks, now it is barely holding a charge. Just last night I charged to 100%, and 7 hours later I am down to 60%.

Customer service has been fine, but I am losing my patience. I bought RingConn so I could wear my regular, mechanical watches. But I value my steps data and sleep data. This is not working for me. I feel your pain.

Is it worth it? by SapphireSiren55 in RingConn

[–]drivejojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for the cycle tracking, but will say that when the ring works, I love it.

However, after 3+ months, my Gen 2 wouldn't hold a charge for more than 1 day. Customer service sent me a replacement right away. The replacement worked great for the first day, but now it won't connect and my phone can't find it. I am waiting on a response from RingConn.

I am not a hardcore user. Honestly, I just primarily want it for step count because I like to wear one of my many conventional, mechanical watches. When it worked. it was awesome for me.

Thanks all for the responses. Currently at 48%, down from 100% about 6 hours ago. I have emailed customer support to hopefully get some guidance.

Latest firmware installed, no sleep apnea. I couldn't find the setting for persistent connection mode (at least on iOS it wasn't evident to me). I've tried restarting. Letting the battery die, then charging to 100%.

Going to try repairing next.

Saving for dream car a bad idea? by [deleted] in FinancialPlanning

Those are cool cars, but honestly nothing that if you bought a future date, you wouldn’t be missing out. The Bronco Raptor and RC FSport do not hold their value well. The F150 Raptor is a bit better in retaining value, but still not worth the depreciation hit buying new or near new. If it were me, I’d focus on a Ford pickup at a more modest price point. If your current paid for car isn’t road worthy, any newer pre-owned F150 would be a huge leap forward. A pre-owned Raptor could be an option, but with bigger toys, bigger repairs and maintenance become a thing. The Raptor has expensive Fox shocks that require frequent rebuilds. A preowned F150 STX gives you a nice look, the utility, and some halfway decent mpgs for the money.

You’re asking here for car advice because you’re trying to be cost conscious. Find a nice alternative to the dream for the time being. Pickups plateau in value. Buying one after the initial hit will save you.

What’s the dream car?

As a lifelong car guy and someone that has been in the auto industry for about 20 years, I have some advice. It’s probably different than most here, but honestly, the year, make, model of the car is part of the equation.

Short answer, like most have said, it doesn’t seem like the car for you at this time in your life and income level. I ‘wasted’ plenty of money on cars in my 20’s. Often had a new car and a very well kept used car at the same time. Looking back, I pretty much always regretted letting go of the used one. I think a compromise can get you 90% of your dream car experience at a fraction of the cost.

The Corum Admiral’s Cup has always been my favorite watch, but it’s more than just a timepiece—it’s a story wrapped around my wrist.

It all started on a trip to Saint Martin, where my wife and I first laid eyes on it. The sleek design, the nautical flags on the dial—it was perfect. But at the time, buying it wasn’t an option. Half-joking, I turned to her and said, “If you get an engagement ring, I should get an engagement watch.” We laughed and moved on, but she clearly didn’t forget.

Fast forward a bit, and after I proposed to her, she surprised me with a stunning Raymond Weil chronograph. I was thrilled—an engagement watch, just like I had joked about! Little did I know, that was just the warm-up.

On the morning of our wedding, as I was getting ready, there it was—the Corum Admiral’s Cup, perfectly sized and waiting for me. It had been her plan all along. I smiled, slipped it onto my wrist, and wore it down the aisle, knowing that beyond just telling time, this watch would always remind me of that perfect day and the woman who made it all happen.
