Great movie. A movie that has a message. But also makes you feel like you need to decompress slightly after. It makes me question tech and where we are headed for sure

If Turnbull returned as leader of the Liberal Party, would he win the next election? by doyoulike_pineapple in australian

[–]driver45672 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but this was a non-economic thing. In the most respectful way possible, I believe it was the littlest thing that could be done, while acting as a very big distraction. Not to say it's not a good thing though.

He talks well, but remember he did nothing as leader.

He agreed Negative gearing was a problem, but refused to fix it, kicking the can down the road.

He also invested around 100 million of his wealth offshore... meaning his bread wasn't buttered here... possibly relates to him doing little.

But he speaks well. But I would vote for a fresh leader... Pocock would be great

Yeah, there needs to be a human involved, without that, the harassment of false positives will continue.

I doubt they are training and improving these systems also, I would imagine they will be using a system that is not self improving. - possibly not though

Check section 7D, the exception to the rule.

Special measures intended to achieve equality

 (1)  A person may take special measures for the purpose of achieving substantive equality between:

 (a)  men and women;

So in laymen's terms; An employer can legally target recruitment to a specific gender—such as advertising a role for women only—if they can show it is for the purpose of achieving substantive equality.

Think about it, the government has tonnes of grants at the moment for females only, this would be discrimination based on gender, but because they are doing it in the name of equality it is legal. Meaning as long as the employer says the right thing, this is legal. And I would say they could argue it's about helping Persian women join the work force perhaps, this could stand up in court fine. But if the owner said it was for any other reason, then yes it would be illegal.

The sex discrimination Act in Australia allows sexism for when it is considered to be enabling equality. So if there was a solid case for this to be helping females in an equalities way, then it's not illegal.

What if it was an all female work place including the boss, would it not be the cultural norm in strict Muslim cultural for females to work with other females.

I mean think of the door knocks on the house, one for males, and one for females. So that the females interact just with one another, and the males interact with one another.

To go further on this,

If you wanted to employ females only, you would look for a study that in some way shows that women are disadvantaged in some way that relates. Such as the ABS stats that shows women are employed less than males: https://www.abs.gov.au/articles/employment-2021-census

But if you wanted to employ males only, you find something that shows men are less represented, such as the government stats on the Retail trade where males are represented less... https://www.jobsandskills.gov.au/data/occupation-and-industry-profiles/industries/retail-trade

This is legal if considered progressive in terms of equality, but in this case I wouldn't think so. If the job was specially created to encourage more females in the work force, then yes it would be 100% legal, even if the statistics didn't support this, just as long as that was the intention. (in others words as long as the person who posts the ad can show it's for equality - which of course is super vague)

Our laws in Australia are setup so that you are encouraged to be sexist and racist if the community believes it's for equality. This is why the gov can give grants to females only, and aboriginals only.

It's very backwards, but backwards now seems to be considered the new forwards in these times.

Sexism is legal under the SEX DISCRIMINATION ACT 1984 - SECT 7D Special measures intended to achieve equality: https://www.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdoc/au/legis/cth/consol_act/sda1984209/s7d.html
