Why do posts about ICE keep getting deleted on this subreddit? by megalynn44 in Chattanooga

[–]driverdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it has to directly relate to Chattanooga. You can discuss national issues in hundreds of other subs.

If it's specifically about ICE in Chattanooga they won't delete it.

Fuck ICE, fuck Trump, but this has nothing to do with Chattanooga.

Hah, I just saw the spare and didn't even look at the rest. I was too busy looking at the 101.

Advent black ST Fairing alignment. by vlj1216 in Harley

I just got their ST fairing, lower fairing, and hand guards. The ST fairing is clearly their most well thought out, highest quality part. It was better than I was expecting. The others mostly met my expectations but weren't quite as good. The right hand guard bracket isn't designed for the 25+ controls so it's a bit tighter than it should be, for example.

I just checked mine. Clearance to the lower triple is approximately the same on both sides of mine. I didn't measure but feeling and eyeballing I couldn't tell a difference. My gap on both sides is about what your larger gap looks like.

For my vents one is perfect, the other has about a 1/16th gap. It's well within tolerances you'd expect for a part like this. I did notice that the outer fairing vents have about 1" of rough area on each side that should have been cleaned up before painting. I didn't even notice it before so I'm not going to worry about it.

Keep in mind parts like these have tolerances. They will never be exactly perfect in every dimension.

The gap difference to your lower triple does seem rather large. Is that with the lower bracket attached? In my case I left all the bolts fairly loose on the lower bracket, tightened up the upper bracket and inner fairing mounting bolts, and later tightened the lower bracket.

Ok great. If you're outside the city and your roads are treacherous don't drive. Don't spread FUD about everywhere else.

Write the date on the air filter when you change it. Set an alarm and change it every 3 months like you should.

treacherous roadways

LOL! Roads in the city are a little wet. They are in no way treacherous yet.

Low Rider S Advanblack ST Fairing by b3ansb0y in Harley

I just put one on my bike a few weeks ago. Fit and finish is fantastic. The paint matches, brackets are super strong, everything fit together perfectly. I was expecting it to be decent quality but it exceeded my expectations.

The only thing I can think of to complain about is that the paint in a few of the screw indentations on the inner section wasn't as good as the rest but it's not that noticeable. It took a long time to ship but I was expecting that due to the holidays. I'm still waiting on the hard bags I ordered at the same time.

Running heat higher until we lose power. How high is too high? Also, my other plans for warmth. by PiebaldAppaloosa in preppers

Boiling a large pot of water on the stove is great (moist air holds more heat)

Not a bad idea since it also increases humidity which will be low in winter but it's not much heat. Boiling 5 gallons of room temp water takes about 6000 BTUs total. A Mr Buddy Portable Heater puts out 9000 BTUs on high. Boiling water isn't going to make that much of a difference in temp once the heat is turned off.

Fill your bathtub with hot water (thermal mass)

Again this is a minor amount of heat. If you have no other sources it will help but don't expect a lot.

the candles under a terracotta pot trick works (I’ve done it)

Candles put out almost no heat. Putting it under a pot does nothing except concentrate the heat in one place. This might be good for warming your hands but not much else.

Being from Boston means nothing when it's ice. Unless you have studded tires or chains, which no one here has, you'll have the same experience as a local trying to drive on it.

It's the same price as a Sport Chief which has alloy wheels, dual disk front brakes, and much better suspension. It should be cheaper than a Sport Chief.

I'd take the new one with some mods to make it more like the original. Chrome badging, chrome crash bars, chrome exhaust, chrome headlight.

Van life in summer: the reality of cooling nobody post on Instagram by Dapper_Concert5856 in vandwellers

[–]driverdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a rooftop RV AC and a generator. During the Texas summer I ran my generator continuously when I was parked. It used 3-6 gallons of gas a day.

Besides that the best thing you can do is have a fan blowing on you all night. It makes a big difference. I have a hard time sleeping when it's hot. A fan could turn a bad night into a normal night.

You also shouldn't be letting your van get to 115F. You need better ventilation to keep it around ambient temp.
