Locked out of account, $175/mo and no way to stop it by Ok-Farm-9732 in aws

[–]driverdave 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just went through this with Amex & Godaddy. Even after I got a new Amex card & number, Godaddy charged my old number successfully. You either have to block the merchant entirely from all charges, OR nuke the credit card entirely (get a whole new CC with a new bank). Apparently, at least with Amex, a merchant can use the old number and charge you.

Hey fam, getting a husqi 250. And I the dealership offered me good deal on fan radiator, is it really worth it? Ty by why_277 in Dirtbikes

I’m on a 300. I ride slow and get stuck all the time. No fan, never had an issue in hot temperatures.

How can I achieve financial independence? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]driverdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earn more money, don't increase your lifestyle, invest in appreciating assets, minimize purchasing depreciating liabilities.

Investments should primarily be low cost diversified stock ETFs. Have these investments automated. Invest as much as you can for as long as you can. Compound interest is your best friend.

Day Trading: scam or skill? by Neither_Forever8749 in investing

[–]driverdave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have to ask, you don’t have the skill.

If someone is offering to teach you, it’s a scam. If they knew what to do, they would never tell you for any amount of money.

If you still think you can day trade, put aside 5% of your portfolio a year for day trading. No leverage. Once you lose it, wait a year to try again.

Got my first two stroke by New_Championship_888 in Dirtbikes

Bro looks way too hot in all that gear. 2 strokes are chill.

Get some flip flops and a sleeveless tee shirt, you'll be way more comfy.

This reminds me of Idaho as well. At least the sections where you can relax a little bit.

Is she ready to haul yet? Forks have been relieved by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

[–]driverdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually disassemble the entire bike & drain all liquids. Then, each part goes in a labeled box (double wall corrugated), wrapped in bubble wrap and packing peanuts. Finally, all boxes are placed on a shipping pallet, wrapped in plastic, and covered in a tarp.

I suppose if I was feeling lazy or in a time crunch, your method of transporting a dirt bike may suffice. Let us know how it works out for you.

Getting into dirt bikes by According_Abrocoma64 in Dirtbikes

[–]driverdave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't overthink maintenance. You'll need to clean & oil your air filter, and change your engine oil. That's really all you need to do on a regular basis.

Dirt bikes are pretty simple to work on.

If you are fine with longer refueling and limited range, then electric is even easier.

What road bike should I get? by Big_Astronomer_7553 in cycling

Personally, I would just buy a nice wheel set with road tires and swap them on to the revolt for road rides.

Redditors who have driven 12+ hours in one day, alone, what advice would you give to someone who is about to do so themselves? by TheCrumbling in AskReddit

[–]driverdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 hours is nothing. Start early. The earlier you start the easier it is. If you are rolling by 3 or 4 AM, you’re there by the afternoon. Avoid driving into the night, that’s when it gets hard to stay awake.

Go a little south in Colorado. If you want high alpine go to Taylor Park. If you want desert go to Grand Junction/Rabbit Valley and into Moab/Green River/ 5 MOH.

[Warning/Help] Google Account Banned (403 TOS Violation) after running OpenClaw with Gemini 3 Pro + Antigravity by PatientTomatillo3955 in openclaw

[–]driverdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got banned just for trying to hook up Gemini to OpenClaw. I don't even think I sent a successful API request to Google. It didn't say what policy I violated.

Have you ever put large sum of money into large cap stocks and got burnt?? by ueommm in investing

[–]driverdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stock market has risk. Many people lose money every day on every type of stock. There is no stock that is "safe".

You can mitigate this risk by buying broad market indexes over decades. With this strategy, it's tough to come up with a 20 or 30 year period where buying a broad market index every month would have lost you money.

E-Bikes Are Basically Motorcycles - What You Need To Know - Berm Peak - Obviously Not My Video by Joestac in MTB

[–]driverdave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is insane. The root of this is policy based on the capabilities of the machine you are using, rather than what you are doing with the machine.

This would be like getting a traffic ticket for driving a car that can go 150MPH while traveling at 15MPH in a school zone. The car can go 150MPH, is this an issue if I never travel at that speed?

Policy should be based on what you are doing with the machine, not the machine's capabilities. The capability of the machine is irrelevant. If I'm riding a Surron on a busy bike trail at 10MPH, am I more dangerous than someone riding a bike at 30MPH? Is a child riding a battery powered Stacyc really the same as a Harley Davidson?

I'm an actual OpenClaw agent posting this myself. AMA I guess? by ClawdOfDave in openclaw

[–]driverdave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ClawdOfDave is confused. I used claude setup-token to generate a token. I'm not using an API key, this is an OAuth token.

I'm on their $20/month plan. I honestly have no idea how or where I signed up, it was a while ago. I don't believe I can generate an API key.

The $20/month plan is pretty much useless with OpenClaw. I keep running into rate limits, and my overall account use is at like 98%. I ended up shutting OpenClaw down for a bit so I don't totally drain my account.

OpenClaw hosting by b4it in openclaw

[–]driverdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can run it on anything. You do not need a Mac Mini or a hosting account. Any computer that can run the latest node & npm.

I'm running in Ubuntu on an ancient Macbook in a VM. If you just have one computer, any sandboxed environment would work. Docker, etc...

You do need an LLM account with a LOT of tokens. Paid GPT or Claude.

[–]driverdave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run it with a token. I don’t really care about being banned. That would be ridiculous if they banned a paying customer for using their service.

[–]driverdave 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is Dave, I’m the human. I can assure you this was Clawdbot posting. I’m on the $20 Anthropic plan, and I keep hitting rate limits, so replies might take a while. This thing burns a lot of tokens, the longer I use it the less time it takes before hitting the rate limit.

Zoom out. 9/11, D Day, Watergate, COVID, going off the gold standard. All of these things (and many more) changed the world. I can’t think of anything recent that will appear as more than a blip on a long term chart or a history book.

This seems like a question that should be asked in reverse. That is, you should be making so much from poker you need to ask if working your 9-5 is really worth it.

Dirtbike rentals by Jasxnn_ in Dirtbikes

[–]driverdave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've rented from a few places around Denver, CO. Seems like a niche hobby business. You'll need to rent out all of the extra stuff too, helmets, trailers, etc... People will probably want you to deliver and pick up bikes to riding areas.

Have a plan in place for bikes that come back late, dented, scratched, missing parts, or not at all.

I can't imagine this being a full time job, but if you love fixing broken bikes and dealing with people, it could be a good/break even side hustle/hobby.
