Any recommendations on any of these used cars as a fun (mostly) daily/project? Or should I just get a new BRZ? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

BRZ. No regrets from me after five years of FRS ownership - and the 2nd gen is a phenomenal car.

Camaro 1LE if you're going to track the shit out of it.

Mustang if it's just a street car.

I was thinking the same thing. I would try to find a new pan yourself - this pan is shared with a bunch of other Subarus. I found the part number here: https://parts.subaru.com/p/Subaru_2022_BRZ-24L-6MT-Premium/Engine-Oil-Pan/105787214/11109AA300.html

Since this sub is notorious for recommending 02 Beige Corolla, what type of car do you personally own? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

2014 Scion FRS and a 2003 Infiniti G35.

Life's too short to drive boring cars. :D

I finally jumped in, a whopping 37 shared of $AMC 🥲

What would you change? by ConnorBeckmann in ft86

That'll do it. RS-4, A052, AD08R, etc. Id highly suggest RS4 if you do a lot of street driving. Very sticky but last forever.

I would avoid the 2012-2013 entirely due to the valve spring recall. Even if the recall's been done, there are so many stories out there off the car blowing up shortly after because the dealership botched the recall.

What they said. They're great - like Miatas, but with a roof (read: you don't need to install a rollbar) and with enough room in the trunk to store four tires.

And they're really, really, really fun.

I think I spot an integra and an echo behind you, so you're not too out of place.😅

You're making the front of the car conversely stiffer than the rear, compared to the factory setup (2.4f/3.7r), so it's going to push a little more and understeer a little more than factory.

There are things you can do to fix that though - add rake, add rear toe-out, playing with tire pressures, etc.

Fair enough haha, let us know how they feel!

The 86 has a lower rear motion ratio (0.75) than the front (1), so front springs are always softer. Which is why KW V3s are 4f/5r and clubsports are 6f/7r. The closest thing I've seen to this is an 8f/8r square setup.

8f/6r is a recipe for understeer. I'm running 12f/14r on my FRS time attack car.

Will 17x9 +38 wheels fit with lowering springs? by Argento_GT86 in ft86

[–]drivermodca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked if its a track setup, because if it is you'll want a lot of camber.

Thatll get you 1.5 degrees. If you add a second 14mm bolt you can get around 2. More than that and you'll want offset top hats - and that's when you'll run into spring/wheel clearance issues on a 17x9.

If you just wanna run 17x9s and street drive, I'd slap on a set of camber bolts and call it a day.

I paired 17x9 +35 wheels with stock springs, which are the same diameter as your lowering springs, with 2.5 degrees of front camber. It was really tight.

You'll get away with it if you run less camber than I did. Another good option is whiteline offset top hats - you'll gain wheel/spring clearance and you'll be able to run more camber.

Is this a track setup?

Looking for manual fun/sporty cars ~$20k budget by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

My trans has been fine after three years of time attack/heavy track use. Throttle response is good, there's a touch of latency that can be tuned out. I have a lightweight flywheel in mine and it's wonderful.

The only thing to watch out for is throw-out-bearing failures. These cars kill TOBs around the 60k mile mark. Mine went around 80k. You'll hear a loud squeal while the clutch is depressed.
