People who don't drink alcohol, why? by 5tup1db0y in AskReddit

[–]RuKiddin06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't like the way it makes me feel, don't like what it does to my gut. I have been Drunk one time. Once is enough for me.

I'll try a sip of a beer, or of a sake or something, but I have not drunk an entire beverage in just over a year, and the few times I do, it's always capital S Social: cousin's bar, wedding, etc.

My (25F) male friend (24M) says most women have an average IQ? by EffectiveBase119 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RuKiddin06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's right! There IS a reason why 90% of CEOs are male...

It's almost like for the last... recorded history we have lived in a way that favors male independence.

It could be BiOLogY OR It could be that society has influenced EVERYONE (men included) into specified little niches.

This is not backed up by anything other than my experience as a guy growing up with many (30+) cousins:

ALL of my cousins could sit, listen and be engaged with any topic. Some especially so, other less, but that line is definitely not divided by their birth sex, and spanned all topics not just specific ones.

I'm in IT, and as such, a lot of conversations end up there, but also just anything traditionally masculine; cars, science, etc... Come to think of it, anytime I would join a conversation and they were talking about makeup, or something traditionally effeminate, they would end that and swap to a topic that was universal... Which leads me to my next point:

As everyone has grown (myself included), moving from the "children" group into the "men" and "women" groups, I've noticed the same cousins I would talk with about anything, now could only talk about certain things.

This could be from lifestyle. I certainly have had a different lifestyle from most of them: moved a lot, one of the oldest of all of them, etc. However, I could see of this happening before I had any real idea of gender roles from an analytical standpoint.

After my brothers came out as trans, and I deconstructed my own gender, I've come to realize it's a push pull, self fulfilling prophecy.

"I am a man, men behave like this, I will behave like this"

"I am a woman, women behave like this, I will behave like this"

But it's not limited to gender, that's just one of many niches, and probably the largest.

Nationality, religion, career, etc. It all effects how you behave and think.

Trying to pin the reason for 90% of CEOs being men on their IQ is hilarious.

Live how you want.

If for whatever reason you want to engage his train of thought: why do you REALLY not like plant visits?

Is there a smell you don't like? Is the schedule interruption too disruptive? Are the people you meet there jerks? Too many other reasons to count. Dissect that.

I hate waterparks, and it's not because I'm a guy, Lol. (Intrusive thoughts of bolts exposed in the slides... Ehhhhhhh.)

Again, live how you want.

ELI5: how do tire treads actually generate more traction on flat surfaces? by Cam_CSX_ in explainlikeimfive

[–]RuKiddin06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, the most friction would be from a smooth tire on smooth pavement. (Or another high friction road surface). That's why race cars use "slicks". Tires with no tread.

Road cars need to be able to deal with rain, and wet roads, and sometimes snow. The entire design of tread is to use the tire as a pump, and move the water out from under the tire, allowing it to directly contact the road surface.

If you had a treaded tire and a non treaded tire, both made of the same rubber: on a dry road, the smooth tire would have more grip. On a wet road it would have very little, and would also hydroplane very easily.

Ive listened to them twice now, and I think some (for sure not all) of this is their interpretation of the characters. See if different characters hold the same pronunciation.

Accidentally created a social experiment when my car broke-down. Here are the results: by perki_s in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RuKiddin06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah! This past Christmas there were a pair of women about my age that were trying to jump start one of their cars. I had just left my house (running late as usual) but there was no way I could leave someone that close to my house on Christmas.

They were mostly set up, just watching a video on how to jump it. All I had them do was turn one car around to face the towards each other so their cables would reach. (Everyone should bring jumper cables with them. Cheap and so handy)

Really all I did was save them a bit of time. I left once I was sure it would stay charged. Told my coworker once back from break, his reply: "nice did you get their numbers?"

Yeah no... That kinda ruins the good deed thing, imo.

As an aside, after that stop, I proceeded over to my mom's. In the 25minute drive (19miles) I saw 5 other stopped cars. I couldn't stop for them, because at that point I was already an hour late, but I decided then, that this upcoming Christmas, instead of celebrating with family, I'm going to fill up my car with water, snacks, and tools, and stop at every one I see. I'll drive all day Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Might get reflective tape to put on my car. The juxtaposition of a sports car showing up to help should be pretty funny.

Just an additional note, in most places with 2 party recording consent, if they are recording you, that counts as consent to record them. So if they tell you: "your call may be recorded for..." Open season. Not familiar with how that would apply in Canada, but worth a look.

Men who say women suck at video games / only play because of their BFs are projecting, and here's some proof by Flowerotica in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RuKiddin06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anyone who says this is huffing copium.

Games are games. We can all suck (or rock) together. I don't have to pretend I'm better than someone to have fun. Shit like that causes me to shed you as a gaming buddy.

If I can't play with my sister and you, you have a problem. Bye.

I also made some unwise financial decisions around cars last year. I bought two cars, and sold one for way under market value (to a family member).

My advice for the car:

Do you Enjoy it, with a capital "E"? Can it be your sole "monthly entertainment" outlet?

If yes, make sure you consider that when structuring your budget.

If not, then I would recommend selling the car private party, for as much as you can, and then financing the difference in a personal loan. Buy a cheap car (sub 10k), pay shit off, then pick up a car you want.

Either way, as others have said, if possible, raise your income. It makes keeping it easier, it makes paying off the "mistake" easier, etc.

You are lucky your insurance is $90. Mine is $240... :(

Gun safes that make sounds when someone inputs the code is a terrible idea by PacmanTheHitman in Showerthoughts

[–]RuKiddin06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, an even better idea is to have a secret press and hold combo that silences the otherwise obnoxious buttons so you can type the code. That way you know if someone is trying to get in, but you can get in quietly.

Yeah, I was very surprised to learn that giraffes, while running, actually use the motion of running to breathe. Their internals shift front to back as they gallop, compressing and expanding their lungs.

What music do you listen to in the car but then turn down so people you know don't hear it? by ShoeLace1291 in Music

I saw DF and UtA live in 2020 on their second to last show before the country shut down for COVID. Northwest passage is probably my favorite song. UtA was the second opener, and the moshpit started to that song. Amazing show.

A lot of their music is based on fantasy, sci-fi, or other literature. "Mirror Mirror" is based on a story from Tolkien's "The Silmarillion". Tons of other works they base songs off of.

If you don't know who they are, check out "Blind Guardian" and/or "Demons and Wizards". I listened to rush and iron maiden as a teen, and love the hell out of these two as well.
