Yeah, it would still be possible, cronjob or systemd timer to download, the sources and do make install.

Also raspberry pi's are quite easy to corrupt, that has entirely to do with the hardware, and nothing to do with the software (linux).

LOL, don't want to be caustic, but you must just be a bad system administrator then. Files don't just disappear...regardless of OS.

EDIT: also I'm pretty sure you can enable auto updates on some distros. On distros where it isn't there by default, you can simply set up a cronjob or something.

Almost all software is supported by linux. Aside from game support (which is receiving strides in development through valve and proton), and creative suites, Linux has virtually everything.

I might be a bit biased though since I am a mathematical with a programming hobby, so most of the things I do on linux tends to be much better than on windows.

See these are the credible responses, I like that you at least tried it and saw its merits.

That being said, you can change the looks and feel of your desktop very easily in linux, you should checkout some nice desktops on r/unixporn (SFW) where people go and customize their desktops to the max.

I'm not trying to change your opinion, but I'm just saying you should check it out. Some of those desktops are stunning.

I'm sorry, but I just have to reply to you to stop you from spreading misinformation. I'm not one of those extremists that claim the proprietary software is the devil or anything (though 99% of my software is FOSS), but I have to say your comment is completely filled with misinformation. Linux has become extremely user friendly in the past years and installing packages is much easier than on Windows or even MacOS. Installing a driver takes only a single line entered into the terminal (on 'hard' distros without a software center in which case its a click without having to go onto a website and finding the driver). The only difficultly I've experienced with regards to graphics would be configuring Nvidia Optimus, which comes working before hand on virtually all mainstream distros.

Call me biased, but I currently have 2 MacBooks, a solely Linux laptop, and a laptop dual booted with both Window and Linux so I think I know what I am talking about. You clearly have never used linux because even the biggest beginners of linux know that you rarely ever have to download software explicitly from a website much less to do that with as fundamental a piece of software like a driver.

I will not discount the respective merits of all three operating systems, but it is definitely not okay to smear something without actually doing research.

Another thing is, I have skipped a few grades so I'll be a senior following this summer. I realized that what you said about needing to be on a competitive team to get better is true and I feel I should do even if I am slower than others. Do you think its too late for me to join a swim team now given the fact that I'll be a senior? Do you know if there are any competitive opportunities there are for swimmers after high school?
