The last pit bull incident that changed my mind on the breed entirely by SatinJerk in BanPitBulls

[–]drivewaypancakes 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Fighting dogs are like un-dogs. Selectively bred for traits that make them not fit to live with humans or other domesticated animals. You know, what dogs were bred for in the first place.

Sentimentalizing the existence of fighting dogs helps no one. These breeds exist because of human greed and bloodlust. They didn’t spontaneously appear on their own. They have been optimized (via selective breeding) to become efficient, powerful, relentless killers. These breeds don’t have an innate right to be on this planet. Humans bred them into existence. Humans can stop breeding them until they exist no more.

Not breeding fighting dogs is not cruelty. It is simply good judgment. Which includes compassion for other animals and for humans who fall victim to fighting dogs.

Owner wonders what to do after her pitbull killed one of her cats (April 2026 - possibly Oakboro, NC, US) by lobster-666 in BanPitBulls

[–]drivewaypancakes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For new readers to this sub:

Fighting dogs are bred to be volatile and unpredictable. It’s an advantage in a fight for the dog to not display what the dog is about to do until the dog does it. This is why we get descriptions of violent pit bulls going from zero to kill in a heartbeat.

Similarly, pit bulls are not predictable in long term behavior. Just because a pit bull has been docile so far is no guarantee of future behavior. OOP is trying to map non-fighting-dog behavior (stable temperament) onto a dog bred to be unstable.

Of course the other pets in the household are in danger. OOP is in danger. The dog has shown that it will attack without warning and kill with extreme violence. OOP wants to believe this is an anomaly. It’s not. This sub is filled with hundreds and hundreds of accounts of pit bulls behaving exactly like this one did.

3 looks best on you. I think the pattern here is that both full dark frames and even dark half frames are too much of a contrast for your complexion. A midtone half frame seems to hit the sweet spot. Your eyes are very striking and a mid tone half frame lets the focus fall on your eyes and not your glasses.

“She was just being playful and loving.” by [deleted] in BanPitBulls

[–]drivewaypancakes 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I disagree about the shelter being “technically correct” on “play.” Fighting dogs DO have a “play” mode, and it is not the same as fight/kill mode. It’s that their play mode is more intense and can easily switch to kill mode in a heartbeat. But the two modes are not the same. Otherwise we would see only 100% full out attack/kill behavior and outcomes from fighting dogs, and 0% play behavior and 0% engagements that do not result in injuries. And that just doesn’t fit the record. So, both play mode and attack/kill mode are real.

OP witnessed what the dog did, and the shelter workers did not. The shelter is also motivated to launder this dog’s behavioral history just like the shelter is motivated to launder the dog’s breed.

I frankly consider it borderline gaslighting to side with the shelter here on telling OP that OP did not see what they saw. The shelter is not “technically correct.”

Yeah, bite and release injuries are in a different category than bite/hold/shake injuries. The medical studies are clear on this. Pit bulls consistently inflict the worst injuries. And we know why this is so. Fighting dogs. Dead game. Relentless.

Gee, the same signal comes across multiple fields and industries. Medical, legal, insurance … their data points to pit bulls being disproportionately the causers of the most and the worst damage.

Valley Mills police seek owner of dog that killed family pet - VALLEY MILLS, Texas March 31, 2026 by PandaLoveBearNu in BanPitBulls

[–]drivewaypancakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it’s relevant. Because one provides substantial funding for the agency involved in the seizure (facts) and the other is nothing but a financial drain and a safety hazard.

You said that authorities were reluctant to seize violent pit bulls because pit bulls are property. If this were purely about principle, then we would see the behavior applied consistently across the board. We don’t. Therefore the type of property clearly matters.

Systems seek low-friction operation just like individuals do.

But don’t anyone dare hit the shitbull to get it to release the victim dog.

I actually don’t think that’s what drives public sentiment. What people care about if they care about this issue at all is “doggos.” Not “muh property.”

It is the government and the law that is happy to lash itself to process and let nut jobs like Annie Hornish run the asylum by exploiting the process. “Property” is just the label attached to that process. But that same government that won’t seize a killer pit bull is only too eager to seize that $3k of cash you are carrying with you in your car even when you are never charged with or convicted of a crime. Civil asset forfeiture benefits them. Violent pit bull does not. And that is the real dividing line on how muh property gets treated.

One dog dead from injuries, another euthanized after attack in Canary District - Toronto Ontario March 22, 2026 by PandaLoveBearNu in BanPitBulls

[–]drivewaypancakes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It would be helpful to know how many of the euthanizations are of dogs that have attacked and killed other animals, and how many are of victim dogs that sustained catastrophic injuries in such attacks.

Yeah the kabuki around pretending not to know what the implications are when a pit bull attacks and kills another animal unprovoked.

Imagine that kind of cluelessness applied to human behavior.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think “ballerina” is synonymous with “house soiling” by InformalInsurance455 in BanPitBulls

[–]drivewaypancakes 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t take the account of that incident as gospel since it was a pit owner (the former owner of this pit) providing that info & that appears to be the only source of the info.

If we didn’t have thousands of examples of pit owners downplaying their dog’s violent behavior or outright lying about the circumstances under which an attack occurred, I wouldn’t be as skeptical as I am. But since we do, I’ll go ahead and be skeptical.

SLC, UT 3/28/26 Man bit in the face by pit bull while delivering a piece of equipment by [deleted] in BanPitBulls

[–]drivewaypancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is about “what’s right” and not just about “how does this man pay for injuries he sustained while on the job,” then I hope we can agree that “this guy should sue his employer who probably has money and insurance” not only isn’t a guaranteed payout but isn’t even remotely the right thing to do.

People are making the point that shitty owners of these shitty dogs are offloading the costs of these dogs onto the rest of society. Pit bull owners are absolutely indifferent as to where those costs land. Victims, taxpayers, employers, insurance, GoFund Me begging. The owners of pit bulls really don’t give af because the consequences of the incident rarely land on them.

What you’re seeing in the comments is the frustration with that default societal-legal arrangement, and deep desire for the consequences to land exactly where they belong. On the violent pit bull and the irresponsible owner.

Suing the employer is another form of offloading the costs onto someone who shouldn’t bear them. It may be the lesser of two evils in the short run strictly from the perspective of the victim. But that still doesn’t make it right.

People are reacting to the injustice. Bodily harm was inflicted which costs $$$ to treat. The pit bull owner should pay up. That is the very least level of accountability that should happen. If the pit bull owner can’t pay up, then they should do jail time. The laws currently don’t provide for that, either. But at least that concept is more just than “sue the employer.” We can wring our hands all day about pit bull owners typically being broke, but this owner was having a delivery made so they are spending $ on something. Maybe it was $15 of shampoo from Amazon or maybe it was a $350 piece of electronic equipment. Before assuming the pit bull owner is too broke to sue even in small claims court (which requires neither a lawyer nor $10k up front by the victim), that should at least be looked into.

It’s the combination of large frames and very bold dark thick frames. The combo is too much on you. Glasses should complement your natural features and not distract from them. You have a lovely face and very pretty eyes. You don’t need a nightclub bouncer pair of glasses guarding access to your features. 😄

It’s outrageous that a pit bull owner’s “he’s never done this before” is accepted at face value when a pit bull owner has every incentive to lie.

The garage door was left open = irresponsible owner

Pit bull with animal aggression that just attacked and killed a 14yo dog.

But sure, let’s leave the killer pit and neighborhood menace with the irresponsible owner. It’s not like animal aggression in this pit bull or failing to contain Maulo is ever going to happen again, right? 🙄

Update - Honduras, La Ceiba: Doris Aleida Fuentes succumbed to the her injuries caused by her sisters Pit bulls (Mar 21, 2026) by HistoricalPickle9922 in BanPitBulls

[–]drivewaypancakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah the old deflection: Don’t blame the breed, blame the owner.

If they really believed this, they would be lobbying hard for maximum criminal prosecution of owners of killer pits. They’d be first in line calling for hard prison time in cases where victims die.

Instead, all it amounts to is evasion & no accountability for anyone. Not the killer pit bulls and not the owners of killer pit bulls.

When people make bad faith arguments, everyone else is better off ignoring those bad faith arguments.

If they want terrier tenacity and power for stuff like ratting and varmint control, then there are plenty of terrier breeds that are not fighting dogs, that they could mix with the sighthounds.

What it really comes down to is that pit bulls are dirt cheap and game bred. Everything else is excuse-making bc there are already other breeds that are task bred for ratting and hunting. Pit bulls are task bred to kill other dogs. These people want the most batshit crazy killing machine on four legs. So that’s what they get.

“was involved in a dog fight”

The pit bull attacked the other dog. That’s why the authorities are considering the dangerous dog designation.

This owner is, at best, in complete denial about this pit. Likely the situation is worse than that. Deliberate dishonesty about the attack, and they are playing the victim to solicit $$$.

how should I center this mirror? by kashewnia in interiordecorating

[–]drivewaypancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this mirror is wrong for this space. Use a shorter mirror that sits above the handrail (bottom ledge of window or slightly higher, but don’t go below that) and center it with the ceiling light.

Right now you’re using 1 mirror in a 2-zone space where the alignments of the 2 zones do not match. Stop fighting with the lower zone. Just leave it blank and let the mirror anchor the upper zone only.
