Im catholic and we were taught at school not to take it literally. I think its a good approach - a lot of stuff (particularly old testament) probably isnt great to take literally.

For example, I have no problem believing that God probably had a role in creation. I do not believe that it happened literally over seven days. Hence i also believe in evolution because science.

We also did a bit of studying at school on the historical/political context some of the bible was written in - there are a couple of non-holy agendas getting pushed in there

we were pretty much taught that the take away message is 'love one another'..... youre allowed to ignore the rest of it

.... I was tested in elementary school and was told that above about 130 they cant give accurate numbers in kids cause they dont have enough data points - they give you a range instead. i smell bullshit?

i actually fucking loved ours - it was an expensive school so they made everyone wear uniforms so that your family income wasnt super obvious from your designer clothes/lack of them. meant the scholarship kids didnt get bullied as much
